Strength:

The TV has a great picture and the center dial of the remote has a nifty "favorite" channels - of the past few channels being viewed.

Weakness:

Besides the first unit that failed, the Sony Universal remote misses a few features of the TV remote.

I picked up a display model at a Circuit City in Salt Lake without box for under $600 for what I thought was a great price. It was shortly before the store closed this past winter and was an unplugged display unit. Although it was late and I was told it was in great condition, I made a BIG mistake of not viewing it out before a couple weight lifters, who also posed as sale guys, helped me haul this to my car. When I got it to my place I had to coerce my girl friend into pretending she was Chyna to help me cary this sow for 50 or 60 feet into my place. Once it was plugged in and ready to go it displayed an interesting variation of black and white lines; no color; nada picture. I checked it out with Sony and they said it had died. After some ceremonies that were not not very respectful, I then had to beg my girl friend to help me drag pork belly back into my car. I took it back to Circuit City late the next night. (What works against you can also sometimes work for you.) They said they could only give me credit; they didn't have any open boxes. Well, the sale / body builder guys and even the strong looking female clerks were anxious to go home. Also, the manager I was talking to about all my aggrevations and the bad back of my girl friend realized I had some points. So, instead of kicking me out or making his people stay any longer, he authorized a brand new in box Sony TV for me. Of course, these things are so big boxed, my buddy sale guys / weightlifters had to take make it out of the box just to get it in the car. After shelling out half the cost of the TV to get my girl friend with the bad back intoxicated and dined at a gourment restaurant, she helped me haul the baby elephant back into my place. And it now produces a very nice picture and both she and I walk around like humped back whales. I'm not sure if the moral here is that sometimes a Sony can be bad, or my stupidity for buying a display unit without insisting on watching it first. Of course, had I done that, I would't have a brand new out of box TV. (No Gain without pain.)

Strength:

Excellent picture clarity & color with satellite.

Weakness:

Flyback transformer blew after 1 year & 8 months, costing $246 to fix. So much for legendary Sony reliability. So heavy it defies belief.

I have mixed emotions about this unit. The repair bill was not fun - see below. On the other hand, the color, vibrancy (is that a word? Is now), clarity, sharpness, and detail are pretty incredible. It takes a satellite system and s-video input to truly appreciate this unit. The video portion is topnotch.

The audio, however, leaves much to be desired. With a direct RCA connection to the satellite receiver, it's okay, but I would have expected more in a TV of this type. However, video quality is the primary consideration, and this unit has it in spades.

While this is without a doubt the best picture-quality TV I have ever owned, I am still smarting from having to pay $250 to repair it less than 2 years after purchase. Sony's customer service would not help out - it is out of warranty. Overall, it's a good unit, but I'm going to be ticked off for a long time about that repair bill. Not sure if I'll buy another Sony again, based on that experience. The local yokel that Sony referred me to for repair was a trip, too, apparently the 70s and lack of customer service are still going strong.

Yes, it's got a great picture, and yes, as soon as it blows up again I am going to shoot it and buy another brand. My last Sony lasted 19 years. Hopefully there are other units of comparable picture quality to Sony.

Strength:

It is a SONY! The picture is very good.

Weakness:

It weighs a ton!! A very basic TV

I bought this Sony to replace my RCA which I had since 1993, I had to get it repaired 4 times as it just started to go again I decided to pick up a new model. I have a 60" Mitsubishi in the family room and use the 32" in the bedroom. It was a hard decision between flat screens or the regular screen. It all came down to price. Since this was going to be used in the bedroom I did not want to spend the extra few hundred dollars for a flat screen. I looked at all the 32" brands and liked the Sony. I have had sonys before and have always been impressed with the pictures. The KV32S42 was no exception the picture is very good. What sold me on it was the price Sound Advice had it for $599 with an after new years coupon to take off $100. Sears will match or beat any price and I have premier coupons from sears so I ended up paying $425 for this model.

Now about the TV, You need help lifting this baby up. It weighs about 150 lbs and is not easy to handle. The set up was real easy, it auto configures your channels. You have 3 picture settings you can change to while your watching a program, "vivid, movie and standard. You can also adjust the sound to simulated surround sound which does sound better than my old RCA.

If you are looking for a basic 32" TV this one will be hard to beat at the right price.

Strength:

Color (perfect white)
Clean and nice picture
Reliability and durability

Weakness:

Heavy
No component video

At $600 or less, this tv is certainly the best deal if you are on a tight budget.

Color are great and better satured than the new Sony Wega line. The white color quality, wich i find a good indicator for color purity, is outstanding. You won`t find better white on any other brand including the new Wega line.

This TV looks great even with a poor signal wich is not the case with the Panasonic Gao (wich looks bad with poor signal). On the other and, the Gao has a better (crisper, sharper) image with good signal. The Gao has also better color contrast and better dark rendition, but the color fidelity is questionnable (i feel colors like red, green, yellow are slighly exgarated, and the picture is slightly on the dark side).

Among good cheap tv, i would recommend to look also at the Jvc 32 inch wich is quite good.

If you don`t care about money, i would recommend to look at the new Panasonic Tao or the New Jvc flat tube. Both seems better than the Sony Wega (wich i find a bit deceptive for color rendition).

Strength:

Good picture

Weakness:

Few video inputs, it is heavy, Picture Tube went just after two years!

It was a good tv while it lasted but the picture tube blew after only two years. Im going with a Toshiba this time. They are cheaper and have alot more inputs including component.
Im guessing the sony was just a lemon but im not taking any chances on this model again.

Strength:

Excellent Sony Trinitron tube, picture clarity, one year warrenty.
and...
... Its a Sony!

Weakness:

One heavy mother @#$&%!!! (If you do not have this beast delivered, bring a large friend, or two!)

This is a great set with decent, although basic features, for a decent price (ranges $575 - $650). I have used other Sony products and have rarely been disappointed. After going to the store and viewing many diiferent sets side by side (Toshiba, RCA, Zenith) the result was the Sony Trinitron had the best picture! See for yourselves the overall clarity, little distortion and color fidelity make this a excellent set for the money. The remote is basic and simple to use, but the set is rather cumbersome and heavy. All in all though, a truly fine set at a very affordable price!

This product worked great for me with DVD and Sony Playstation. The only thing I would recommend is a home theare system to take full adavantage of its capabilities.

Strength:

Big Picture, vibrant color, sony quality and longevity

Weakness:

Heavy, one S jack, no front jacks, no black level settings

Just got my first Sony larger than 27". Wow what a picture. Do not think anything compares at this price point. Supposedly the V model number sets are better due to better digital comb filter. Find one if you can. All any Sony dealer wants to sell you is a Wega set. Three canned video settings. Would like something in between standard and vibrant. I tweaked the vibrant and have it where I want it. All these people using a DVD to set color and other settings should try using the new and improved MK II Eyeball. Mine works everytime. I n comparison to my 27"XBR, the image is not as sharp, DUH! Thats about it. I actually like the fuller screen effect of the 32. Seems like there is more picture B4 the edge of the box. In a dimmly lit room more conducive(sp) to video viewing, the image on the 32 just floats in the air. I seem to be more aware of my 27XBR's screen edge and TV set box, distracts from the experience.
