Strength:
Good picture. Easy remote. Very nice television. PRICE was excellent for the quality I get.
Weakness:
Size is about the only thing I can fault this TV with. Weighing 240 lbs, it took myself, my roommate, and our two girlfriends to move this thing. No good lift points on the bottom. Bought this used after reading good reviews. I took a gamble. But it was only $180 for a 36" TV. Moving it was a pain. But worth it. |

Strength:
Sharp graphic displays. Sharp DVD resolution, Cable TV look very good when program is filmed in 35mm or digital.
Weakness:
Grainy cable picture when programs are filmed in 16mm. Problem I've noticed while watching pro football games (on any source cable tv or Sony dish), especially on artifical turf. The problem is that the yardlines 10, 20 30, etc... are not solid and straight but, zigzagged and straight. It occurs more on Fox Stations. ABC MNF is less noticable. My KV36XBR200 was made Jan.1999. I waited for the price to drop to purchase one. The priced dropped to $1300.00 and had to buy it. |

TWO important thing to say about the 36" Sony. It is sharper then a projection tv and No one has mention this which may save a few bucks; the screen is actual 37 I repeat 37 inches not 36. So we all own a 37" set. |

Customer Service and selling a known defective product I can sympathize with all the folks here who have been dissatisfied with their KV-36XBR200 sets. Along with buying our own set, we have helped 3 others buy their TV's (2 of them were the XBR250's). The other sets have worked fine, especially the XBR250's but our set has been a lemon. Currently, our set has been with the Certified Sony Repair folks for 4 weeks and we are still negotiating to get a new set or our money back. This is the third time our set has been in the shop. We have a strange curvature in the bottom left of the screen and red lines that show up on a dark backgound. Sometimes the screen goes red or goes totally black (no picture - but sound continues), but these are intermittent. Similar Products Used: Other Sony TV's |

Strength:
Ummmm, it didn't electrocute me.
Weakness:
Picture had distortion and shading on both left and right sides. I was stuck with this TV while Sony went through the motions orf trying to correct the above mentioned problems. Finally the dealer took mercy on me and took the set back. In my humble opinion, this "wega" is a step backwards in that the other three trinitrons I've owned had none of the problems that I experienced with this set. Similar Products Used: Older trinitrons. |

Strength:
Great color and resolution. Spectacular with DVD and digital cable.
Weakness:
Mine has a slight defect with the tilt and I notice some slight banding of contrast. I bought the 36XBR200 based on a store demo of the Similar Products Used: Toshiba, Hitachi, Panasonic |

Guys- READ MY POSTS! ALL OF THEM! I AM IN THE BUSINESS (NOT BEST BUY OR ANY OTHER KNOW-NOTHING CHAIN STORE). I know what it is I'm talking about. The bottom line is this: If you notice geometry distortion, dark spots, curved letterboxing, etc, it is because THE SCREEN IS CURVED ON THE BACK, AND FLAT ON THE FRONT! This is a gimmick based on what people have said they want COSMETICALLY on a television. One will not gain extra performance from this fact, and until they get with the program, people will continue to purchase these sets and complain that they are not getting what they paid for. See, this is why salesmen have such a bad reputation. The reality is, in a lot of cases, the sales staff is not aware of these things (especially in a chain store!) and the reason for this is because they are chronically under-trained. This is reality. I also feel no sympathy for those who blindly purchase products based on the badge on the front. Guess what- Sony does not always equal quality; certainly not truth in advertising. In this case, however, the onus is on the salesman you purchased this set from to get you into something that you want/need, not what he wants to sell you! Stick to your own research. Don't ask some pockfaced sixteen-year old what he "thinks is cool." Look at the average on this page. When I logged on, it was 2.84. That sounds like my goals-against average! When I read that the last set someone had a problem with was dated "May 1999" I was shocked, but not surprised. I gave three speakers last time, now Sony gets two for this set for not correcting such an obvious flaw. |

My girlfriend and I went to the store looking for a replacement for my old Sylvania SuperSet. We saw the Sony and immediately she said, "that's the one". So I did some research and was worried about buying it. I purchased the unit locally at a high-end store and paid an additional $50 to have it delivered and setup. I was told that an improper delivery could cause problems (and YOU try to lift it...). I've had the unit for about two weeks and have had no problems at all. I looked, but could find no dark areas or distortion. I've been pleased in all aspects of the purchase. The store where I purchased the TV received it from Sony on 3/31/99, if that helps. With the new XBR250 coming out soon, you might find some good deals on this unit. |
