I know that you have heard some bad things about this tv. Look the TV looks good as long as you have a good input! Don't waste your time trying to get analog stations to look good because you can't. Analog stations suck! Now DVD, HDTV, and a stong cable signal looks awesome!!!

I've seen the tv run on a dvd player at at circuit city in Dallas and it looked like crap!!! I saw the same tv with the same dvd player run on it at another store and the picture was amazing!!! You have to know how to setup the tv and dvd player up to get its full potential. If you don't take the time to read up on it your going to get a bad picture! So do your self a favor and do your home work.

Strength:

The absolute best picture quality you can buy.

Weakness:

Heavy :)

If you are wondering if this TV is worth the money, stop what you are doing and go buy one right this instant. You will NOT be dissapointed. Yes, you might get a faulty unit like a couple of the people below have gotten, but I know of 5 people that have gotten this TV and none has had a single problem.

I suggest that you head down to your local dealer with a few DVDs and demo it for yourself. I used Any Given Sunday, The Matrix, and Gladiator. But the one that sold me on the TV was Toy Story 2. The picture quality and the vibrancy of the colors blew my mind. Now the guy that owns the place uses the movie to demo it to all his customers.

Watching Gladiator I picked up stuff that I had never seen in the movie before. A good example is the first fight scene. There is a shot where the camera pans over the Roman army and you see a bunch of arrows and ballista shots being fired. Well, with the Vega you can actually see that there are THOUSANDS of arrows and projectiles.

The only downside to this TV is the weight - about 230 lbs. This presented a problem. I personally like my TVs up a lot higher than those sissy little stands that Sony sells for the Vega series so I built my own frame out of 2x4s and covered it with a sheet. Problem solved :)

Bottom line: best picture quality bar none. Get one now.

Strength:

HD Ready, (2) HD inputs

Weakness:

Heavy & I heard it has poor picture with some formats other than DVD's

My wife has ordered for my the Sony KV-36XBR400 as a comb. B-Day & Anniversary present. My question is with regards to picture quality with Dish Network...

I have heard that with this set many people are starting to complain about poor picture quality using an echostar DishPlayer or other unit other than the new model 6000...

If anyone has this TV with any of the echostar units, "PLEASE" post comments here or feel free to email me with comments and or tips...

To anyone that responds, I would like to thank you in advance for your time and assistance.

Sincerely,

Strength:

Very "life-like" DVD performance.

Weakness:

difficult to adjust picture settings

I have had this TV set for about two weeks now and I am totally amazed of the picture output, especially with DVDs.
When the TV came, I have not yet reinforced my wall unit, so it took me a day to do. After, my friend came over to help me place this beast on my wall unit. Boy o'boy we literally had to tippy toe this thing up the cabinet.

Now about the picture. Cable is pretty good here and I'm pretty satisfied. Compared to my mothers' sony projection tv, the cable picture is excellent!
Where this TV really shines is from a DVD source. Mine is hooked up via component video inputs, using Acoustic Research cables. Does anybody know how this cable rates?? I know they're not the greatest because the connectors are soldered on which voids the fact that they're 75-ohm's. I am trying to make my own cables with Canare connectors and Beldin video cables, Does anybody have experience in doing this???
Over all I think I made a good buy!!

I plan on taking delivery of this Sony in a couple of weeks after a little remodeling to make room for it. It was great to read everyone's opinion before making the decision to make the plunge. I would appreciate if anyone has any suggestions on completing the system. I plan on getting a Yamaha 995 receiver and would appreciate opinions on speakers and subs. The room I'm setting up is not ideal - ceremic tile floors and 12' ceiling. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I can't wait to fire this puppy up - at least I don't have to worry about someone stealing it unless they have a tow truck!

customer support

I've been back ordered for this unit for about six months as it was purchased through the Sony 'Family Store' at a significant discount by a family member.

Well, after six months of waiting the TV finally came and it was totally broken. The screen had a one foot diameter starburst in the center and the top was broken from the frame so it was recessed about 5" inside. Basically looked like it was tossed from the top of the Grand Canyon and put in a new box and delivered to me.

At delivery I immediately contacted Sony customer service. What a total joke. They need some serious help there. I asked about timing for me to get a new TV. "We don't know and not sure when we'll know" What?

Anyway, it took Sony a month to find the TV in a warehouse to confirm it was broken. That's way beyond pathetic! I mean football season is here.

So it's been two months since I got a broken TV delivered and they still tell me I'm on top of the waiting list. But they can't tell me when I'll be getting a new TV delivered. Forget it you clowns! You just lost a customer.

Apparently a the 'family store' is only alloted a certain number of units. Well customer service is customer service and when a broken TV is delivered a proactive approach to resolution is something I would expect.

So I'm going to purchase a Mitsubishi and send Sony a copy of my receipt with a second complaint letter.

Bottom line is I've never seen this TV operating in my own home and therefore can't rate the quality. But after all this I really don't care and sure as hell won't ever purchase another Sony product in my life.
