Strength:

Clarity, Color!, adjustments

Weakness:

Remote laid out wierd, HEAVY, geometry problems unacceptable on a TV this expensive

This is the second KV-32FS13 I have had. Both TV's suffer from the same affliction: a rippling effect that runs vertically up the left side of the TV. The first TV, the ripple was very bad - it was most noticable when watching a stock ticker move across the bottom of the screen. Over a couple of weeks, it got progressively worse, so that it was very noticable when watching a movie. The ripple was noticed on Dish Network, VCR, and DVD inputs, even from good component video cables. Upon exchanging the TV (Thanks, Sears), the second one shows every indication of doing the same thing. Adjustments in the service menu do nothing. Moving my shielded audio speakers did nothing. In addition, horizontal lines arc upwards at the left edge of the screen. Back this one goes as well. On a positive note, once the red push is turned off and the sharpness, picture, picture, and brightness are turned down, the set has one outstanding picture (other than the ripple). Color reproduction is superb, and the set takes on a very film - like quality when watching a good DVD on a good player. If it weren't for the geometry problems, this is a perfect TV. Summary: Five stars for color and clarity. Five stars for adjustability. Two stars for picture geometry. Me, lifting it onto the table

Weakness:

should have 16:9 button on remote

I wouldn''t call this a "great" tv but a good one for the money. I own a mitsu about 10yrs old and it has a great 27"tube still looks great. ON this I had to tweak the pic. controls, color temp to warm to get rid of waxy faces RE pic quality, it makes a good signal look great and a bad signal terrible! Sat pixels when signal bandwidth is low suck. Superbowl looked great on Dish NW. Just depends on the signal feed to dish from broadcast. W/DVD, awesome. I am used to 27" screen. The bigger the screen, the more noticible artifacts become. Signal delivery should improve next few yrs so I can live with sat dish''s crapy daytime picture. It is good when it counts. There''s not much good on tv anymore so who cares? I wish I''d sprung the extra grand for hdtv and tuner for the olympics though. Was overruled by the family CFO!

heavy as hell !!

FANTASTIC!!! I''ve looked at a lot of televisions in my quest to develope the perfect "low budget home theater system". The picture quality is by far better than anything is this price range. I''ve just recently purchased monster video 3 s-video cables. OH MY GOD! All I''ll say is, this is the best deal on the market.

Strength:

Lots of inputs, great picture and color, no glare

Weakness:

no 16x9 detection

This is a great TV. I was a bit scared at first due to some of the reviews of Sony Wega''s, but the picture quality of this tv is simply amazing. Even using cheap cables I can see no ill effects. I even got a good picture off an antenna. The only complaint I have is one that was already pointed out, where you have to manually turn on the enhanced 16x9 mode. With 16x9 enhanced movies you have to turn it on or the tv will vertically stretch the picture and the aspect ratio will be off. So it should just do it automatically.

Strength:

Flat screen, sound, video & audio outputs/inputs

Weakness:

Not easy to handle even WHEN and IF you have to move it. Poor TV quality (which might depend on TV cable signal).

In response to Kirby Cheung's 7/15/01 review of the KV-32FS12: You're not alone Kirby. I also notice what appears to be a rippling effect or ghost-like picture from TV broadcasts on my KV-32FS13. A Sears service tech (Sears handles Sony's warranty when purchased from Sears) looked at it, but the old guy was clueless and just performed a few routine adjustments via the regular TV menu and went over operating manual stuff I already knew. I just ordered a $32 service manual to attempt adjustments via a "hidden service menu" (HSM).

TV viewing on my set leaves much to be desired and is worst than expected. But, the real source could be the signal from my Comcast cable service quality. Positive reviews thus far regarding Sony WEGA's superb pic result when the reviewer has the system connected either to a VCR or DVD, not through regular, cable or satellite TV. Is anyone else experiencing poor picture quality when watching TV. I haven't connected a DVD player to the set yet, but I am content with the VCR quality so I surmise that the DVD picture would only be better.

Hopefully adjustments via the hidden service menu will improve my cable TV viewing experience or back to Sears it goes.

Strength:

Awesome Clarity, Brilliant Colors..Overall it is great!

Weakness:

Speakers,Heavy!

If you are looking for a BIG TV in a moderate price range without the bells and whistles like PIP,HDTV ready (which is to be made mandatory only in 2006..)then look no further!

When I got the set, it had a tilted screen, but fixed that immediately with the nice tilt correction feature.Connected it to a component output from my DVD...and I could not believe the color richness and clarity.

Features:
*Nice flat picture tube with legendary SONY quality
*Lots of input/output jacks.
*Power/Controls on top of screen is really convenient..dont have to bend.
*Good clarity, awesome picture color (both hue and saturation)

Overall..go for this TV! It rocks!

Strength:

Great picture, good remote, excellent sound quality

Weakness:

None

I have not found anything about this TV that I don't like. The picture is very clear and the color is wonderful. I had a JVC 27" tv for 16 years and the picture was failing. I was goiing to purchase another JVC but the cabinet was to large for my entertainment center. The cabinet size of the Sony was smaller than most of the 32" TV's on the market which allowed it to fit in my entertainment center. Also, the speakers are on the front bottom of the cabinet so even if I don't have it connected to the stereo the sound quality is wonderful. If you are in the market for a 32" flat screen tv this is an excellent choice. I expected excellent quality from a Sony and I wasn't disappointed.

Strength:

Great Picture

Weakness:

Heavy; Still working on the settings

I've had this TV for about a week, and it's such a difference over my 9 year old 25" RCA. It was a choice between this model and the 32" Panasonic Tau Flat Screen. After a few side by side comparisons, I liked the picture on the Sony a bit better.

I'm having trouble getting the settings just right, however. Does anyone have suggestions for me? I seem to like the brightness of the "Standard" picture mode, as opposed to "Vivid" or otherwise, but other than that, I seem to be missing the right combination of color, hue, etc. to optimize the picture. Any suggestions would be most appreciated!

Thanks,
Pat

Strength:

Awesome picture quality! This TV is the next best thing to HDTV at less than half the price of an equivalent size set. Flat screen reduces glare and looks much more natural. Colours are bright and vivid without being over done (i.e. smearing and bleeding of the reds). The enhanced widescreen mode makes a huge difference in quality of DVD. Do an A-B comparison and you will see the difference immediately (remember to set the DVD players output to 16:9 and turn on the enhanced widescreen mode and your all set).

A small strength: If you buy the matching stand, pu the shelf on the lowest pegs and leave the doors off then it will fit a large centre channel speaker. I shoehorned in a Polk CS400i (HUGE speaker).

Weakness:

Turning on the enhanced widescreen mode is way to complicated, there should be an on/off button on the remote. Also, when you change inputs or power down the enhanced widescreen mode gets turned off. This is a very huge inconvenience and was overlooked by Sony. My feeling is that Sony did this on purpose to get you to buy the better model which has ID1 detection and does the enhanced widescreen automatically.

An amazing TV for the money. Excellent colours and brightness. Strong and defined reds (tough to do on any TV)and the right black levels, not cartoonish black like Panasonics (poor shading of blacks).

Enhanced widescreen is an awesome feature despite the trouble to turn it on. Other manufacturers should follow suit with this feature.

Fine sound quality (although unused in my setup). Menu is easy to use. Plenty of control over the picture. The fact that you can turn off the velocity modulation is also a big bonus as it usually makes the picture look much worse unless you are watching cartoons or text.

Overall, excellent value for the money and a perfect TV to buy until you decide to go HDTV.
