Strength:

Picture quality for the price

Weakness:

not a lot of extra's,but what do you expect for such a good price

This is a great tv for the money. Prior to this, I went through 3 Sony Wega KV36XBR250's. For over $2,000, I wanted a tv that didn't have very noticeable flaws with the picture. This tv was on sale at Best Buy for 854 and I got them to knock it down to 769. The picture quality with DVD and component video cables is awesome. With my cable, it first didn't seem all that great. After some adjustments to my cable at the side of my house, it is very good. I'm not done tweaking the picture adjustments (contrast, tint, etc), but so far I'm very happy. The sound seems fine, but when I'm watching DVD's I use my home theater system and the movie watching experience at home is amazing. Better than at the movies I think.

There are some minor things that would be nice to have on this tv, but for the price I paid and getting a picture that I would rate very close to the Wega's, I'd definitely recommend this set. It was so cheap I even opted for the $119 4 year in home warranty they offered. I never do that, but these tv's aren't exactly easy to move my self, even though I put this one in my entertainment center my self. I'm still a little sore now though. I really liked the Wega's, but this is half the price of the cheapest 36" Wega and almost as good of a picture.

Strength:

terrific picture!

Weakness:

color tint is on the pinkish side. remote is somewhat awkward to hold and use.

This review is for the 36A40. Overall I'm very happy with this set. My only complaint is a minor one in that the tint is quite "pinkish" and requires a setting almost at the very end of allowable adjustment to get nice facial tones. I've also noticed that applause or cheering will sometimes drown out the main audio dialog when the surround sound option is "on". This is particularly noticable during live telecasts of sporting events like NFL football. Other than that this is a great "bang for the buck"!

Strength:

Great picture, very well balanced color.Pleasing to the eyes and enought input/outputs for me

Weakness:

Heavy to lift.

Called Toshiba. This model is the 36A10 sold by Costco but
has one less set of composite inputs. Has PIP etc same as
36A50 which sells for $849 or more at Best Buy etc.
Great set...I just couldn't wait for high definition to
come down in price. Besides, broadcast sources for hdtv
are to few these days. Great set.

Strength:

Picture, price, everything!

Weakness:

Huh?

I thought the TV was a bit "pinkish" myself, until I purchased and used an Avia Guide to Home Theater setup disc. This is a must for anyone who really want's to setup their TV correctly.

This is a great TV, although I don't have much experience with TV's this large. I considered the Sony flat screens, but it is overrated in my opinion as well as friend's who are in the high-end audio/video business and the price difference is ridiculous.

Strength:

Great picture, no visible blooming at high contrast levels, good amount of inputs.

Weakness:

No automatic "squeeze" for anamorphic DVD's (can be done in service menu though), cannot turn off speakers, badly placed menu key on the remote. Some minor geometry problems, common to many larger sets.

Since so many of you have asked me about the anamorphic squeeze via e-mail, I'm posting it here now. Please don't send me e-mail asking me how to do the squeeze:

Warning: Do this at your own risk.

Strength:

Good value, component input, reliable(according to CR). good picture.

Weakness:

takes time to get used to the remote control. pinkish color on some cable channels

This "review" is about Toshiba 36A40. I have been looking for a 36" TV(no PIP) for a while. Sony wega is overpriced, other brands, such as JVC, Philips and Panasonic, only higher end products have component input and 3-line digital comb filter. Toshiba has the best fit to my needs and been a very reliable Brand. I have been watching a Toshiba 27" TV for more than 6 years. It still works very well. 36A40 looks trendy, picture is good, comes with component inputs, reliable, better value.
CCity doesn't carry Toshiba brand, I went to Bust buy 3 times and tried to buy a 36A40 at $750, They blowed the deal away! The most "funny" service Best buy offer is home delivery. With $30, they can only deliver this 160lb TV to the door, no opening box and doing any wiring. All I need, however, is just puting the TV on my TV stand, no any wiring. In order to have that kind of delivery with bust buy, I have to pay $99 and allow some "tech guru" wiring the TV for me. Ok, I blowed the deal, just because I can't move the TV into my room and put it on the stand and also because I can't allow their profesionals to mess up with my system. Who cares.
I went Sears, their sell 36A40 for the same price as best buy does. In addition, I had got 10% off with Sears account. Sear's $40 delivery put 36A40 on the stand and made sure the set works fine. Anyway, I got the TV from Sears at price $675.
My system set up:
Toshiba 36A40
Onkyo TX-DS575 reciever and DV-S525 DVD player
Infinity overture 3, cc-3 center, QPS-1 surround

36A40 has very good picture with component input. Video tape is ok, some cable channels do look a little bit pinkish. you can reduce it by adjusting the picture. The sound from 36A40 is not for music and movie, you have to hookup with a sound system anyway.

Fantastic picture

Weakness:

none yet

This review is for the 32A40. I dropped my cable service and went with Direct TV, so I needed to upgrade the TV. After much research I felt that the Toshiba and JVC models were the best. Sears had the 32A40 on sale and I could not be happier with my choice. The picture from DTV and DVD is absolutely fantastic. The set worked perfectly right out of the box. I confiscated my son's Infinity speakers and Onkyo reciever (He is in the Navy) and now I have an extremely pleasing home theater. I would highly recommend this model to anyone who is in the market for a 32 inch TV.

Strength:

High contrast picture

Weakness:

Remote control would not operate my RCA VCR or RCA satellite receiver, extremely poor factory warranty service. Very heavy TV - takes 2 to move it, rather poor on-screen menus.

A marvelous picture, best contrast and resolution that I could find. Lasted all of 30 days before it wouldn't power up. Then I learned that the promised Toshiba on-site service guarantee was really up to the discretion of the nearest authorized Toshiba service center. Since the service center was more than 25 miles from my home, they would not service the TV unless I got Toshiba to agree to an additional payment. An absurd situation, putting the customer between the factory and the service center. Sent the Toshiba back to Amazon and bought the top of the line 36" RCA.

Strength:

picture, warranty

Weakness:

weight, ugly menu display, can not turn speakers off.

My model is 36A10, but Toshiba support told me that it is identical to the 36A50, just marked that way for Costco and other Clubs.

Initially I considered JVC D-series and even an open box Sony KV-something-FS10 from Circuit City. I ended up getting the Toshiba, mostly on reviews here and at HomeTheaterForum. And I do not regret it a bit. I can not believe that an open box Sony is worth 50% more.

I am amazed at how good the picture is: I have never seen anything that good in any showroom. (except for the 8000 HDTVs.) It is my first 36"-er and I was fully expecting to put up with visible scan lines, like I saw on Sonys. Not at all.

DVDs look great, even strong cable channels look very good. I am having problems with tint and color differ significantly on various cable channels, but I don't think the unit is at fault here.
