This TV is stunning. I picked up this tv after deciding to forgo my wait for HDTV. After getting this tv, I'm not in any hurry to upgrade. It hurts to watch cable after viewing a DVD, the component inputs are that good. I'm not a expert in this area, but I'm extremely satisfied with the purchase.

This model has been out for about two months, and Toshiba brought back the Invar shadow mask which wasn't on last years model. I don't see any of the color problems that many reviewers had experienced in the CZ36 series.

I paid only $688 at Best Buy because it was an open box and a 10% Preferred Customer discount. I liked the Wega's but for almost $1000 more, I don't see how it could be worth it.

Strength:

Excellent picture resolution and value.

Weakness:

No option to shut off internal speakers when hooked up to external source. Skewing of picture around bottom corners.

I went to Best Buy with the idea of buying a Sony or a JVC 36" tube TV. I have been looking at them for about 3 months. After much research, I went to Best Buy on Customer Appreciation weekend (10% discount on 1 item) with the intention of buying a similar model Sony. After looking at the 36" TV's that they had there I noticed that the Toshiba's picture was just as good, if not better, than the Sony's. The saleman informed me that it was a brand new model that they has just started to carry. Not only was the picture just as crisp, but the Toshiba also had component video inputs. The only thing that bugged me about the TV when I first started playing with it was that you it had no way of shuting the internal TV speakers off if you run the audio through a reciever. Which in turn means you can't use the TVs remote to adjust or mute sound. I don't get that. This is usually a no brainer for most maufacturers. Also, I know it's not a true flat tube, but am I to expect a little curvature in the video at the bottom corners of the tube? If anyone knows the answer, please e-mail me. Overall the picture is nothing short of spectacular, especially with the component in on DVD. I would recommend this set for anyone looking to upgrade to a 36" tube as the BEST value out there, if you can put up with the internal speaker problem. For a 36" TV, this set
has the others beat, especially for about $800.00.

Strength:

Picture, Component Video, Price

Weakness:

Lack of large number of video inputs, Heavy

After much research on 36 inch TV's I decided to go with the CZ36V51 instead of the Wega's because they had component video but was nearly $1000 less. Best Buy had the newer 36A50 which replaces the CZ36V51 for $850 which I think is a steal for this set. The color and picture are nothing short of stunning when I use my DVD with component video in. The factory defaults were closer to the VE/Avia standard than any other TV I have owned before, only slight tweaks were needed. Menu control of the various features was easy through an average remote for this type of television. The only thing I am slightly disappointed with is other than Cable in, there was only two Video Ins, both on the back of the set. I am used to having 3 Video Ins on my previous sets, one of which was always on the front behind a panel for a Camcorder etc. This isn't a big deal for me because I am wiring up a stunning Paradigm / Marantz SR-7000 home theatre to work with this TV but for the average user with no HT setup but just a lot of VCRs, Cable, DVDs, and Playstation type stuff it will also require frequent swapping of cables.

I highly recommend this TV as the BEST in features and picture under $1000 in the 36 inch price range with it handly beating the equivelent Sony units.
