Strength:

picture quality, features

Weakness:

flatness of screen

I bought this unit because it was one of the only affordable units with component level inputs. I haven't had any of the problems mentioned in the emails below, but I am getting flashes of color during DVD playback using the Color Stream (component) inputs. The picture, when not showing disturbances on the screen, is incredible. Has anyone else experienced this anomaly in DVD playback? I am now finding myself having to send the TV back to the store where I purchased it for investigation. On top of this nuiance, they have asked for my DVD player as well. Amazing what $850 buys you these days...
If the problem is fixed, I'll grant this unit an above average rating for the picture quality, but until then I am forced to rate it on the low side.

Strength:

width fits easily into entertainment center

Weakness:

edges appear jagged during vertical movement. No quick channel change in P&P. Can't adjust "theater mode".

jaggies, jaggies, jaggies. Especially noticable when playing DVD's with component video plugged in. I've read that "theator mode" will help remedy this, but it doesn't. In theator mode the problem still exists. Needless to say I am VERY disappointed, and I'm going to take this set back. I already exchanged this set once for the same model because the first one I purchased had a completely shot picture tube. I hoped it would be worth staying with this stupid CN32V71, this was a mistake. Another problem is black horizontal lines going across the screen, that when playing DVD's are annoying. I hate this set, and I think the engineers at Toshiba are incompetent. I will not be calling a technican out to my house to try and fix these problems because why should I have to? This set is terrible, and I would never recommend a Toshiba to anyone.

Strength:

Great picture, component input, price, remote

Weakness:

On screen menu, lack of individual memory settings for each input.

Great set for the price, perfect stop over before going broke on an HDTV set. The size of the on screen menu is a pain when your calibrating the set with Avia. This unit has the same remote as Toshiba's more expensive sets (back-light, good button layout, etc, etc). Your able to turn off SVM on theater mode, which is a hell of a lot better then getting a tech to disable it physically. Have not seen or heard of the problems listed in the other reviews.

Strength:

Variety of Inputs, Picture(DVD,VCR), Learning Remote, PIP, Price

Weakness:

Tuner, Sound

This set supplies you a great package, 32" screen, component video inputs, 2 tuner PIP, learning remote, digital comb filter, etc. At $700 it sounds like a steal, right? Sorry, apparently Toshiba did have to cut some corners. Sound is average at best and watching TV through the Tuner is poor(vertical discoloration’s) when a power supply(DVD, VCR, etc) is within 3 feet of the left half of the set. The good news is my center channel speaker does not appear have any effect and my entertainment center is versatile enough that I could keep all of my components away from the TV. I will have to say the picture is quite good when watching DVD's.... My recommendation to anyone looking for a 32" TV(besides HDTV) would be to get the Panasonic I listed above. I liked the picture best and I doubt it has any shielding problems. Yes it is $200-$300 more but, you get what you pay for!

Strength:

Colorstream, Backlit and programable remote,Picture

Weakness:

Remote is not very ergonomic and on screen menu is too obstructive

I haven't had the problems that others here seem to have had.

I would definitely recommend using a calibration disc, such as Video essentials. Without it the picture does not look good at all (compared).

The colorstream component jacks make the picture crisp, with very clean colors and borders.

Also, an excellent buy for $700.

It will hold me over until HDTV is more available and affordable.

Strength:

Outstanding picture!

Weakness:

None found yet....

Geez, I must be really lucky!

I've had this set about a week and I've watched it with a very critical eye. Okay, two critical eyes. I want to make sure it's okay before I decide to keep it. What problems have I found? None!

The picture is superb! My set shows absolutely no sign of moire. The speakers do not emit any static at all. There is no 60 hz hum. There is no high-pitched whine. This set should be the center-piece to a great home theater system including surround sound speakers, so who cares what the internal speakers sound like? I haven't hooked a DVD up to it yet, but I've read that the vast majority of problems related to component video can be cured by getting different cables. In short, I couldn't be happier with this set. And, as I've said, I've watched it with a very critical eye for the past week.

The review of the 27" inch version of this set on etown was very, *very* good. I encourage all of you to check it out. This is a fantastic TV. I hope those of you who have had problems with the set are able to find the source of them. I'm willing to bet that many of the problems are the result of intereference from other equipment or bad cables or.....

None so far.....

I just picked this floor model up at American Appliance for $457.00. Not to bad of a deal, although I had to get service on it which was $200 additional for the 5 year in home coverage. But I had to get coverage on it and I actually managed to get an additional $40 off the price after doing some bargaining with the saleswoman. Considering I've had it for only 1 day, I suppose I can't give a sufficient review of the set, but I'm glad I have full in home coverage for 5 years after reading some of these reviews.......I will post another review in a couple months. Would any of you be so kind to email me a PDF of the manual OR fax a photo copy? I didn't get one with the TV since it was a floor model.
