Strength:

Great picture and colors

Weakness:

Remote light is bit distracting in dark room

Great picture. I haven't been distracted by any Moire and I'm quite happy with this TV. I bought this set after returning 4 sony XBR Wega's for various problems like the compression chip didn't work properly and dark vertical bands screwing up the picture. I like this Toshiba, though. The colors are wonderful and both DVD and cable signals look great. And a hell of alot cheaper than the Sony.

Strength:

Outstanding Picture(800 lines of res), component input

Weakness:

Monster - Weighs 178lbs.

I have only had the television for about a week. The picture is incredible. I bought this tv for watching DVDs and was very impressed with the quality picture with the component input. I was trying to decide between a Sony Wega(better looking) and the Toshiba. I thought they both had equally sharp pictures on the DVDs I tested them with. I noticed a big difference ,however, on regular programming. The wega really looked bad when we turned off the dvd and just watched a local network - the salesman explained that the wega really only shines with a digital source such as dvd. The Toshiba did much better in this area. Although you did get a drop in resolution, that is to be expected. I could not see spending the extra $500 for the Wega when the only thing it beat the toshiba on was looks. I like that silver chassis - good conversation piece.
I thought the sound on the Toshiba was better. Even though I will be using my own speakers soon, the speakers that the television have are very good. My wife thought the home theater was already set up when she first walked in the room. Toshiba has a set-up preference called Cyclone to give you a little bass boost. Although I definately prefer my own subwoofer, this feature is great for people who do not have a home theater yet.
I was originally going to hold out for the digital version of this television(36x81), but after reviewing the difference, I thought that would be a waste of time. For one, the difference in price- $1199 vs. $2199. For an extra thousand you really only get and extra component and s-video input. The difference in resolution is only 10 lines. The cn36z71 has 800 lines of resolution and the cn36x81 has 810. The only place you may lose a little resolution on the cn36v51 is when the HDTV dig. to analog converters convert from a High Definition signal. I am not worried about that, since it will still be a about 5 years until there is enough programming to really care about it.
I am giving this thing a five for value because i could not find anything to compare for the price. Oh yeah, I still want that $3500 51 HDTV that everyone gets to see when they first walk in to the store, but for a direct view 36 inch, this is the clear winner.

Strength:

Picture clarity, multitude of inputs (component, 2 S-Video), almost flat screen.

Weakness:

weight, side-firing speakers.

Well, I read all the reviews on this set before venturing off to the local TV store (Belmont TV). After viewing the wide array of 36-inch TVs at the store, I settled on the Toshiba given the clarity of its picture and relative screen flatness. I did notice that on virtually all the Toshibas in the store--except this one and the higher priced HDTV-ready version--that the whites on the screen looked pinkish. The other 36-inch TVs in the store all had, for the most part, a very bowed out screen which made me feel that I was looking at a fish eye lense.

This TV is definitely a step up from the Sony KV32S20 I previously had which had no component or S-Video connectors whatsoever. I wanted a TV that was as flat or flatter than the Trinitron line, and that offered at least 2 S-Video and 1 component connectors, and this Toshiba was the winner.

I have not yet noticed any of the Moire problems that others have reported.

The sound takes a while to get used to since the speakers are side firing as opposed to my 32-inch Sony which were front firing.

I'm running my DISH Network connection through the S-Video connector, which is finally giving me the better picture quality that satellite TV is capable of delivering. Previously was running the DISH Network through my Sony's RF input. Yuck!!

I thought that the Toshiba was a much better value, and delivered a picture that was not geometry distorted like the Sony WEGA line does.

I have hooked up a Sony DVD player to the Toshiba and am now experiencing the wonders of DVD.

So far, I'm impressed with the Toshiba. Keeping my fingers crossed.....

Strength:

Very clear and sharp picture, incredible built in sound, A/V inputs in front, composite inputs.

Weakness:

None except maybe for the very bright red light in the front. I have seen no signs of moire at all.

I had already bought this TV but had not yet had it delievered when I came to this site and read all the reviews about this set. I was scared after reading about all the moire issues and thought that maybe I had made a mistake. I finally got the TV and went over it with a fine tooth comb and for the month now that I have had the TV, it has been perfect. No sign of moire in the least. I could not be happier with the set. I play a ton of video games which is one of the main reasons I got this TV and they all look fantastic. The front A/V inputs make hookup for my many different consoles painless and the built in Cyclone sub is quite impressive. I would highly recommend this TV based on my own experience with it. I am fortunate to not have the moire issue and I noticed from some of the other reviews that I am not alone. Maybe its just the luck of the draw. I feel for anyone who spent that kind of money and has to deal with such an issue as moire.
