Remote Control; will make you notice a lousy source signal

This is the same exact TV as the newer model CZ32V61, so the review applies to both.
Picture quality is simply outstanding, especially after proper calibration. Picture is very sharp, crisp, with vibrant colors. Unfortunately, will make you notice just how bad your cable reception is. I am now looking to get DSS. For DVD viewing, however, it shines.
This unit could use a universal remote, but I have my own, so that is not an issue. Couldn't comment on the sound either, because I never use the TV sound, but it should have had the option to turn off the TV speakers, instead of having to turn the volume down all the way. Also, it would be nice if it had a front jack. But that's nitpicking. The most important aspect of a TV is the picture quality, and this TV's picture quality is excellent.

Strength:

Picture, Picture and Picture!

Weakness:

Sound, but it sounds better than most TV's

This is a great TV. I had my heart set on a Sony, but when I got this one for $599 at Sears on a closeout, and compared the picture to the Sony, it was no contest. It had all of the jacks that I wanted on the back (Composite, S-Video and Component). I have a Dish Network system and it looks wonderful on this TV. I have a Toshiba SD-2109 connected to the TV via the Component Video connections and the picture is astounding. It seems like the audio is the only week spot with this unit. It sounds great but I do find myself adjusting the volume frequently in Virtual Surround mode when viewing Dish programming, but the DVD is a little lower and a lot more stable. If you can still find this TV I highly recomend it. The only thing that it does not have that the model that replaced it has is the V-Chip.

Strength:

It's a quality picture with loads of features (i.e. PIP, Component inputs).

Weakness:

I didn't care for the remote, but it gets the job done. It would have been nice to have front A/V inputs.

Have had the tv for over a month now and really enjoy it. I haven't had any problems at all. As others have said, it's a great choice to hold you over for a few years. Considering the deal I got from 800.com ($599, less $24 from ebates, no sales tax or shipping), it was hard to pass up. Just an incredible value!

Strength:

Picture quality, size!, number of inputs (gotta have my colourstream!)

Weakness:

channel changing is to slow..

Just got this set on saturday. The local Rex had it for $699 on sale. I printed out the reviews on this site and took it to the store with me, let the guy know that some people had had problems with the picture tube, and that this appeared to be last years model. He checked the back of the unit and said that it was last years, and then he offered to see what he could do on the price. They did end up taking $40 off the set, I added their extended 3yrs parts/labor 5yrs pic. tube waranty for $39, so with tax it all came to $750. I could probably have ordered this set online for alittle cheaper, but I didn't want to take my chances with UPS or fedex people trying to play football with a 32" TV.

I really love having a larger set, and the picture quality is excellent. sound is alot better then the TV we had before, although my next purchase will probably be a dolby digital reciever and some speakers.

Strength:

The Price.

Weakness:

Really wish the remote would control my DVD player as well.

Given the price that several places are selling this set at, I can't image looking at anything else if you want component video inputs. Picture looks great to me once it's calibrated with AVIA. I figure I'll through it in the bedroom once the digital sets come down to a reasonable cost and programing is more widespread.

My experience with this television has been, bar none, the worst experience of any item I have ever bought. Here is my saga…laughable, but all true:May 5-Purchased from Best Buy.
Mid May-Sent to repair shop #1 for (major) color purity problems. They replaced the picture tube.
Mid June-Sent back to repair shop #1 for constant lavender ‘splotch’ in upper left part of screen. When I left I was under the impression that it needed yet another picture tube.
Late June-Called shop #1 for status, they said Toshiba wouldn’t replace tube, nothing could be done, and for me to come pick up the set. Began calling Toshiba’s customer support line. They researched and claimed it was ‘within specs’. Ultimately they agreed to (have me) send it to repair shop #2 for second opinion, which I did.
Early July- When trying to calibrate, shop #2 couldn’t obtain a colorless picture. Called me to say they had diagnosed a bad picture tube and would get with Toshiba after the holiday.
Mid July-Called for update. No part had been ordered. Spoke with technician, who said Toshiba would not replace tube but had him recalibrate the picture instead. He said Toshiba claimed it was ‘within specs’, and that he was satisfied with the adjustment. I picked up the tv.
When I got home I immediately saw major changes: The picture was much warmer, and the lavender area was gone. It was now bright green. So I started calling Toshiba’s customer service again. They again researched, and said their technician (named Ron) deemed it to be ‘within specs’. I don’t think Ron ever saw this tv. The rep said there was nothing more they “could do” (at this point they hadn't 'done' anything), but I was welcome to write a letter to their managers. I told her I thought I’d been through enough.
Late July-went to Best Buy, paperwork in hand, to see if I had any options through them. They noted a “no lemon” clause on the extended service policy I’d bought with the tv, and for me to call their home office to initiate a swapout, which I did. But by their definition, the tv had only been serviced twice and required a fourth problem for the clause to apply. So I simply called repair shop #2 back and said my tv still had problems. “No problem sir. Our work is guaranteed 90 days.” Blah, Blah, Blah…then I asked to speak with that technician again. When I gave her my name, she put me on hold, then came back and said, slowly and firmly (as if she was reading something she knew I didn’t want to hear), that the tv was within specifications and Toshiba would not authorize further warranty work.
So I went back to Best Buy (is this getting ridiculous, or what?), told the guy what their home office said (needed more service attempts), told him what the repair shop said (Toshiba wouldn’t authorize service), and that I was back looking for options. They could tell I was (understandably) frustrated. The guy took my paperwork, spoke with some other managers, and told me to bring it in and show them the problem.
So that Friday afternoon I took the tv in, they plugged it up, and put in a video tape of material I’d recorded which exacerbated the problem. Nobody, including a small group of customers, had any problem seeing its glaring problems. It was especially bad when a face moved through this area—the skin tone goes from red to green—there was nothing subtle about it.
The managers at Best Buy completely refunded my money. Keep in mind that I’d now had this tv for almost 70 days. Furthermore, another manager offered a Sony model (KV-32S65) at their cost to replace it. Needless to say, I’m enjoying that Sony. It’s ironic that the only party with NO obligation was the party that solved this situation. Hats off to Best Buy for covering Toshiba’s problem. I really don’t have the words to describe how demeaning and frustrating my experience with Toshiba has been, or how relieved I was when it was over. This is the last major Toshiba product I will buy…Lesson learned.

Very happy with this product. Sound quality could be better, but I tend to use external speakers anyway. I have not seen any of the difficulties reported by the other reviewer.

Not a bad TV for the price. Has enough features to get one by until the whole Digital/HDTV thing becomes more affordable and refined.I purchased mine via 800.com for $585 out the door (after coupon and eBates). The first TV 800.com shipped arrived crushed, they sent a second later(total time to recieve a working TV was 3 weeks). If the price wasn't so good I would not have waited so long.
Picture is excellent through the ColorStream inputs from DVD player.
Sound is weak with absolutely no bass. I recommend this TV highly to those who want a good value for a smaller home theater.

I received this product from 800.com a few days prior and could not be more pleased. The TV has enough inputs to accomodate all of my A/V gear and the picture from the ColorStream component video inputs is superb. Considering all its features, and the fact that I paid just under $600, I think it merits five stars.

Strength:

The price was a bargain

Weakness:

I miss a timer that turns on the TV at a specified time

COnsidering the price at which I got this set it was a bargain ($575 total, no tax and no shipping since I bought it locally). The picture was awesome with the DVD and used with the colorstream inputs its really good, the picture in picture is another nice feature, and the remote seems pretty good to me (considering the DVD remote which sucks). I think that for the price it packed with features that you won't find anywhere.
