Strength:
Good looks, great remote, plenty of power, clean sound, easy to use.
Weakness:
Doesn''t to THX Hi everybody, I have been reading all the reviews for all the major home theater recievers. I have done a lot of homework and have listened to everything from harmon kardon, onkyo, yamaha, denon, marantz, pioneer, sony and anything else. I just want to say the marantz SR 7200 is well worth the money. I had the denon AVR-3802 but returned it, had the harmon kardon AVR 520, had the onkyo DS696, they are all great recievers, but they just don''t have the crystal clear sound or sheer power as this marantz. All the problems you read about have been taken care of (it''s april 29, 2002). If anyone wants to talk to me about recievers just email me. You can''t go wrong with marantz, has a great remote, plenty of power, 3 year warranty, has plent of connections and is a sexy machine. But as always, listen to as many recievers as you can, cause everyone has different tastes. But let me just say this, marantz has the best recievers i have seen and heard, so what are you waiting for? Get your butt out of the house and listen to recievers! Strength:
sounds great
Weakness:
it''ll light your campfire for you I''ll skip the story about all the research and soul-searching i did before choosing the sr7200. It is quite obvious that this receiver sounds significantly warmer and more musical than its competitors at this price point. However- and this is a pretty big however- it is UNFORGIVEABLE for a mid high-end audio company to sell an $800 receiver with such an atrocious reliability track record. After exactly 7 days of use, not only did i encounter the dreaded capacitor discharge, manifesting itself as a toe-curling popping sound. The third time the capacitor discharged, the receiver BLEW. And i''m talking the stereotypical FLASH, POP, SMOKING, a horrendous stench of ozone and fried mechanicals. No undue strain on the recevier. Innocently playing a cd as background music. Shame on me for reading the myriad of warnings written in the reviews for the sr7200 and assuring myself that Marantz had fixed these issues many batches of receivers ago. You know what galls me the most? I''m returning the receiver and going with the Yamaha rxv1200. A receiver that does not sound as wonderful (SOB) as the marantz, but a receiver that''s got a fair shot at making it past the first week. What a nightmare. |

can not think of any I recently purchase the 7200 and it sounds amazing. I did not have any of the "popping or thumping" problems discribed in other reviews (the problem has been corrected). It was easy to setup and start using |

Strength:
Clean Smooth sound, Power to spare. Detail. great for music and movies. low cost $$
Weakness:
none I read all the reviews on this website and decided to go audition one of these. when listened to it, I couldn''''t believe my ears, They were playin the movie Pearl Harbor and it was very smooth, very clear dialog, warm sound. Then I ask the sales man to put a music cd, and again the sound was great you could hear every instrument. That day I bought it along with a pair of paradigm monitor 11 v2. I was even more impress when I hook it up at home because the monitor 11''''s were louder than the set up at the store. And best of all No pops or clicks (Marantz took care of this problem long time ago) Similar Products Used: ONKYO DS 787 |

Strength:
Outstanding Sound (Five *****) - especially in the direct mode. Much better than Denon AVR 3802.
Weakness:
Nothing that stands out at the moment. I was having the same problems with this model as other users. I returned it to the dealer who sent it back to Marantz. Marantz replaced it with a brand new model (built in China). It now works great - no more annoying pops during track changes or thumping sounds when it powers down. It is still a bit noisy when changing functions but that does not bother me. I am now very satisfied with this receiver and can recommend it to others. Similar Products Used: Denon 3802 Yamaha 3200 |

Strength:
Awsome sound comes out of this thing. Warm and dazzeling highs with very tight bass projection. I almost bought the 8200 as my understanding is that it has even higher definition amps... Glad I didn''t as I doubt the sound could be any cleaner.
Weakness:
The only complaint would be that the universal remote was hard to figure out. Once I got my arms around it though it controls All other equipment. I am Very pleased with the performance of the 7200. It was relatively easy to set up. The sound is crystal clear with power to spare. It''s driving Anthony Gallo Acoustics loudspeakers in the living room and Axiom loudspeakers with Klipsch rears in the multi-media room. Similar Products Used: HK, Kenwood, Sony |

Strength:
I like the remote, you would not believe how easy it is to teach a customer how to use this remote in comparison to others. The sound quality is awesome for the price, and it is easy to use.
Weakness:
As long as the video issue doesn''t pop up again, nothing. I am fortunate enought to sell the Marantz line. Frankly, I think this SR-7200 is a great piece of equipment for the money. I have never heard the popping or clicking sounds spoken of by other reviewers (we have sold boatloads0. Until tonight I have never seen the video problem. I was at a customers house and witnessed this case, only however when run through an older TV that needed an RF adapter to run DVD. I see that some people called this a video sync issue. I wonder if that is what Marantz called it, if this is happening on a single ended composite line there is no actual (so called) sync issue to fix. I HAVE seen it though so I know it does exist. I intend on calling Our Marantz rep and getting a bigger understanding of what is going on. Up till now there has been no definite issue with any SR-7200 we have sold. There will always be defects on any product sold. I for one will be purchasing one of these units (have been giving one a home demo) and have no problems selling more. I am sure Marantz is just as concerned about this, as those who would criticize the product. Great sound: Nothing beats Marantz in this catagory...My CDs and Movies never sounded better!!!
Weakness:
Quality control: Take away the few bugs and this is a great receiver at a great price...could have a 5 star rating Remote: Backlight on display would''ve been nice Random shut down: Anyone else have this problem? I began researching receivers several months ago and was all set to pick up a SR7000. Then I found out Marantz was releasing the 7200 shortly so I waited. I brought home the 7200 and set it up. The manual wasn''t the best, but if you''ve worked with A/V equipment before you should have no problems getting the 7200 up and running smoothly in a few hours. The first questionable thing with the 7200 was that I had to really crank up the knob before getting sufficient volume. Good movie watching volume didn''t occur until about -18db. This is on a receiver that mutes out at -70db. The next thing that caught my attention (like most reviewers here) was a noticable popping from my right main speaker. I really didn''t pay much attention to it until I started seeing more and more owners having the same problem. The final thing that forced me to return the 7200 is it would turn off by itself. This happened a few times...twice while watching football (TV) and twice while watching movies (DVD). I couldn''t figure that one out...so I decieded to return it. Now I''m looking to upgrade to either an SR8200 or an Onkyo Integra 8.2. Any advice you guys could give would be great!! |

Strength:
Accuracy and sensitivity, when it worked.
Weakness:
1. Popping noise 2. LFE wandering and popping, leading to powerdown 3. Severely underpowered Lets just say that my Marantz ownership experience was a short one. I went through 2 of these units, and both had the video problems that were commonly referred to in some of the 2001 reviews. This was supposed to be fixed, but everytime a DVD would flash white, like in an explosion, or lightning, the frame would flicker, and sometimes roll! This was supposed to be ''fixed'' a while back. The second unit also ''popped'' on power-up throught the center and fronts, while the first did not have this problem. Another vexing problem: The LFE Pre-Amp Output on BOTH units that I had would cause my active subs to ''wander'' in and out, cause popping sounds, and then power down the unit! If this is representative of Marantz products, then those engineers have a mess on their hands. The most vexing problem related thought to the volume levels that were attainable by this amp. There is NO possible way that either of these amps were delivering 105watts per channel. Especially to my rear surrounds. Certain music had to be played at -15 to -05Db to be truly appreciated and heard. Methinks there is a problem there. Interestingly enough, on the first unit, after it spontaneously shut down the first time, the volume levels went up significantly!! Go figure. Now it is time for my brief fair balance statement: As a trained musician, and a fan of recorded music, I have never experienced the clarity and accuracy portrayed by this unit (when it would stay on). Especially on unaccompanied vocal and acoustic tracks, the hair on the back of my neck would stand up! For your information, I have migrated to a Sony STR-DA5ES. I have no problems, it works perfectly right out of the box, and it is full of clean power, though honestly not quite as clean as the Marantz. That is for another review though . . . Strength:
Smooth and powerful. Awesome for movies and music. Great Marantz service.
Weakness:
None now. I read all of the reviews on the Marantz SR-7200 and after purchasing one I also understand what everyone meant by the dreaded "popping" sound. I thought I would be immune by buying one in 2002 but I was wrong. Called Marantz and brought them the receiver and in 1.5 hours they had the problem cured. (I''m lucky I only live 30 min from the disributer.) They knew exactly what I was talking about and now the problem is fixed. I now own the sweetest sound and by far the best performer for the money. It''s too bad there was an initial problem but now its just smoooth performance. I''d recommend this unit to anyone. Similar Products Used: Denon 3802 |
