Strength:

Plenty of Power!!! Easy to use.

Weakness:

Remote Control. Lack of S-VHS inputs.

I bought this because I didn't want to spend all my money to my home teather. I was surprised the quality of the product. Altough it is hot in low volume, it produces excellent sound in stereo or dolby mode.

Weakness:

now: none for the price.

KAY now listen all u lemon-head .. hehe ... After called Panasonic for the hissing sound, they told me to change it right away if i still was on my 30 dayz warranty.

If u get annoying "hissing" sound in low volumes, simply:

1. Exchange the product NOW.

If by any "luck" u get another lemon, go to step 1.

I used to have this problem... returned the receiver, got a new one, and its ok now. With the same wires , not monster , just cheap one i got at radio shack.

For the heat issue: its common for all DD & DTS receivers at this price range i've been told by an Audiophile friend of mine. for the price paid, get a 3 year or even 5 year if its available. i got a 3 year warranty for $60 CDN at radioshack. wich brings it to a total of $460 CDN...(still cheaper than any other brand)

Remote, RDS, Gets Warm

I didn't had many pleasure of it, but the time I could enjoy I did. The first thing I noticed was that the RDS didn't show with all the channels which have RDS. The problem wasn't the cable, because I've used several. It could be the district I'm in (Groningen, Drenthe, Essent), but other brands like Yamaha didn't have the problem.
The sound was good, but the RDS mal function borderd me.
The volume button on the remote was at the bottom of the device, not logical. I also measured the temperature, it went up to 45`C, and I didn't pump up the volume.
My opion: Nice looking receivers which fit to the panasonic tv, but not my type of receiver

Strength:

is is awsome great sound cools its self well and gives great sound and bass response

Weakness:

cant change the sound mode when on B speaker setting.

this is a great reciever. as for those of you that think it over heats well it doesnt theres a fan on the back and when you putt the volume up it cools off. but every peice of electronic equiptment will get hot if you leave it on. i have noticed if you leave it on with out playing it it tends to heat up but not all of that crap about burning your hand hot. befor you turn it off just play something and turn up the volume to let it cool off. or put an other fan in the back if your that woried about it. im not. i use this reciever every day and i have never had a problem with it. it delivers high wattage to all 5 chanels and i dotn know what there talking about with the hissing sound. ive never herd it and if you so send it back and get a new one cause this reciever is great and is definitly worth your money. i have bose 201 speakers, a box with 2 pioneer 6x9's in it hooked up to chanel B and an orion 8" subwofer in a Qlogic box this is for a car but works great and delivers awsome bass (it shakes my whole house)

Strength:

Great sound,plenty power.

Weakness:

heat

A great sounding receiver that has alot of power. I use it with 2 Klipsch KSW 2.1's in front, JBL center speaker and 2 KLH 911B rear speakers along with a KLH ASW120 subwoofer. This system kicks butt. Way too much power to really tax it in my apt/townhouse.But it will give me what I ever I crave.
It probably would be a good hotplate to cook on as others have mentioned it's excessive heat output. Hard to find a receiver with these features for the money however.

Strength:

Great sound/performance and features for the price!

Weakness:

Generates a lot of heat even just sitting on with the volume at zero.

This is the center piece of my Dolby Digital 5.1 home theater system. I have been running this sucker solid (and I mean solid since I leave the amp on for 10 hrs during the day tuned to a radio talk show station so my dog has something to keep him company) and I have never had any problems. I'll address the heat first since this goes hand in hand with leaving it on for 10 hrs during the day, everyday. The unit does get toasty warm. At first this concerned me but now 3 months later and considering it's usage, I don't think the heat should worry anyone who may be considering this amp. I would recommend allowing this unit to sit in a well ventilated area (do not stack your CD or DVD player on top of this unit). Make sure it sits on top of a rack and that there is lots of room at it's top vents. As for CD listening, it sounds great. Drives a pair of Technics SB-T200's (which eat a good chunk of power) and makes these speakers sound even better than they already did. The Sound imaging features included in this amp is pretty nice although I have only found myself using the "Club" setting when listening to the radio since most CD's I have are encoded with ProLogic or I just use "Stereo" mode. DVD 5.1 playback is also great and boy do movies sound different now in surround. Setting the seperate output levels for each speaker was a breeze with this amp (thanks in part to a great universal remote). For the budget home theater system shopper, I would highly recommend this amplifier. Don't worry about the heat unless you plan to store yoour's next to the fireplace or wrap in in a sweater. I have given this amp a good run and the heat has never been an issue. I'd buy another Technics amp ( maybe a 6.1?!!) again. Happy listening!

Dolby Digital 5.1/DTS 5.1 decoder for less money!
3 Optical outs

Easy to Use
Basic Features
Very good remote and responsive
Delivers 100W X 5
Lot of power for less money!

Weakness:

None! I'm proud to say.

I love this receiver!
WHY?

This is the cheapest receivers you can ever owned. It is easy to use. Some people might complain about hissing sound in the speakers. The solution is to use optical cable the one I'm using from Acoustic Research and also I'm using 14 AWG wire for my front and center speakers and 16 AWG wire for surround speakers. Also set the size of your speakers. If you'd set large for small speakers you'll notice very harsh sound. I'm using small size for my small speakers good for room size and I've selected small for all my other speakers. Now the sound is even better, smooth, clear and crisp. This receiver delivers very high quality sound after using expensive toslink cable. It really shakes my appartment and has lot of power. Once I watched 5 movies in a row and there were no problems with heat. The is no major issue where heat is concerned. The heating is normal.

The reason it gets hot because the cover of the receiver has less ventilation holes only at top in the middle and nowhere else that's why the heat stays inside the receiver and takes little a while to ventilate. If someone says it is not a good receiver simply because of heat then that person is wrong.

Before I was using the Dolby Surround from Magnavox for last 5 years which is compaired to Technics SA-DX940 is nothing. Now I'm so happy that I watch movies more than listening songs.

The difference between Dolby Digital/DTS and Doby Surround is day and night or virus and dinosaur. For whose who think that paying more will get you higher quality is actually wrong. This is a cheap receiver because it has less features. If you add more features like all five banana plugs for speakers and S-video or Component switching for other units then soon you'll find that the same receiver will cost you 4 times more simply because of extra features.

It true that you get what you pay for, but sometimes you pay too much that you don't even need!

I go to college and work part-time as a lower lube technician at Mr. Lube for $7.25/hr Canadian, draining oil, changing oil filters and many other services related to car.
I'm budgeted user and did my best I could.

Right now I've not enough money to afford receivers like
Yamaha RX V1 or Denon. I was planning to buy Sony STRE945 110W X 5 but it was twice the price and other reason is soon
Dolby Digital 6.1 Surround EX / DTS ES 6.1 receivers will arrive in the market at moderate price. I would say about $1000 or 1500 in all brands in year or two. So why should I spend more for money for DD 5.1/DTS in higher models. I think it is good idea to buy a cheap receiver and then spend more for the new one. To me it makes more sense. Right now I'm spending money in dvds so I can increase my movie collection.

I've watched Predator, Terminator 2, Jurrasic Park,
The Matrix, Motal Kombat and Mortal Kombat: Anhilation and many many more dvds that I've owned. The sound is awesome, sharp and detailed. .1 LFE delivers thunderous deep bass. Now I love my home theater sound better than theatre. I setup my home theatre system exactly the way Dolby recommends and now I can hear the sound even better than before.

Infact all the major theatres use Dolby Digital 5.1/DTS
so why not listen the same sound at home.

I love this receiver and recommend it to anyone!

I'm thinking that if DD 5.1/DTS is stunning how good
DD 6.1/DTS would be! just can't wait to hear that.

I'm waiting for the Star Wars: The Phantom Menace which would be available in late October of this year. I would love to listen the jet engines from sub and the ultrasonic surround experience of the planes.

Don't waste time go and buy now!

Thank You
Happy DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1/DTS

the best, anyone who complains about the little thing like i cant connect it to a 1930s t.v or it has not got 300000 inputs are stupid, what more do you want from an entry level receiver, and if it was as bad as some retards make out they would obviously buy a different one. the people who complain of sound leaking through channels must have faulty goods, i would have though that it fairly obvoius. there is no better receiver around for the price power and features, the people who complain the most want $100000 features on a $200 unit but its not going to happen is it so just realise this and stop sending in stupid reveiws. you can go and buy a receiver for $100000 if you want but it wont be much better. i have noticed that the people who mostly complain are the ones who have B good or open boxed goods, again it seems fairly obvios to me that you are not going to get a brand new fully working unit for a fraction of the retail price, there is going to be something wrong with it, as for the people who complain of a cheezy remote, shut up because you dont listen to the remote do you the answer you are looking for is no. if by bad luck you have a faulty unit instead of wrighting a bad reveiw of the product go and take it back and exchange for a fully working unit, again i though this was the normal thing to do if you are sold faulty goods. you will not find a better receiver for the price, everyone knows that apart from a few insane people who call the selves audiophiles. the heat problem is stupid, every unit in the world will heat up if you have it on long enough, this is probley the reason, the sad freakes who have not got a life who have the receiver on 24-7, this is a superb unit go and get one regardless of the stupid reveiws of some people.

Almost Everything

Weakness:

Low Dampening Factor
Lots of Heat

I already posted a review but I'm checking back in.
1. For the heat for the safety of you and others I STRONGLY suggest that you put another pancake fan on the reciever. You hook it up to the outlet on the back through a tranformer. 3-12 VDC.
2.It can't do super well with mongo sized mains 15-18" BUT it is and this is interpreted from the manual:
20-20K at o.o5% THD in STEREO
1K at 0.05% THD in Dolby Pro Logic
3. I am using my own homemade speakers;
Subwoofer: 15 in. Daton SERIES II Woofer, 89.5 db @ 1w/1m
Mains: 8 in. Radioshack Woofers and highs, 87 db @ 1w/1m

Good bass response... Nice style..

Weakness:

Can't play loud, bad surround in pro logic, If my TV is on, and I have chosen another channel on the receiver i still can hear the TV..

I tried this receiver for one week, and then decied to take it back to the store.

It has pretty bad quality in stereo, and worser in Prolog mode! It had hiss in prologic mode, even at low volumes. The receiver has pretty good bass. (If you want to know, I have a pair of Genexxa gx-1000 speakers, pretty old, but I like them.) You can NOT play at high volumes, it really doesn't like that! If my TV is on and I have another channel, e.g. the DVD channel on the receiver, I still could hear the the TV!
