Strength:
Great sound for the money
Weakness:
Protection Circuit tripping I have started to run into a problem with my unit shutting down. Speakers are Infinity Overture CC1's(main and center, Infinity outrigger(surround) and Velodyne CHT12. All have impendance ratings of 8 ohms and the impendance switch on back of unit is properly set. Unit shuts down at volume level past 10:00 on Santana's Supernatural DVD which admittingly is pretty demanding musically. But it also shuts down at the same volume level while watching The Terminator. Unit will play by simply turning it back on and reducing volume, but it seems like unit should be able to handle more volume. Anyone else experiencing this or have any input as to why? |

Strength:
Everything for what I paid for.
Weakness:
None, so far I bought this receiver from Best Buy as an open item without knowly. I just needed a receiver at the time. I was didn't have enough money so i just got with what was cheapest. I saw this baby for sale as a floor model and though I will save some money and buy it. IT WAS THE BEST PURCHASE I MADE SINCE!!! This thing is great for what I paid for. Clean sound, varity of DSP modes with a press of a button, and a slim remote that I use for everything, and good power with only 85 watts??? I think it's more like 100 watts. Got it with a 4 year service plan and has provided with what I needed to start my own system in bedroom. I hope it will last me in the long run. |

Well the story goes, I have a friend who works at BestBuy so anything I wanted would be well below MSRP. In the end, the two I was considering were the 925 from Sony and the 1105 from Yamaha. After weighting the pros and cons of each; the five way binding posts on all channels-Sony, the better amps reguarding total harmonic distortion-Yamaha, I finally ended up with the Yamaha ($558.00) as compared with the Sony ($450.00). Let me just say one thing- no regrets. I've had the Yamaha for about three days now and I have put it through just about every torture test imagineable. Dolby Digital on my DVD, flawless. Pro Logic, unbelievable. Cd's sound great, very crisp and clear. I am awaiting the arrival of the final piece of my home theater project, a Klipsch 12 inch sub to go with my Klipsch speakers. This receiver really has brought new life to my fronts, synergy 3.1's and synergy 1.1's for rears. As far as I'm concerned, I loved this piece of equipment the moment I took it out of the box. It's heavier than the Sony by several pounds, looks more stylish, and is of a superior build quality. The remote could be better but who knows of a perfect remote? Have to give this jewel five stars, especially for the price I paid. If you are serious about home audio and video, but not so serious that you are willing to sell your children to help pay for your system, I don't see how you could go wrong with this unit. |

I have to say that Yamaha does it again. I've been a fan of their products for a long time now, and I finally had to move up from the RX-550 I've had for 10 years now. After looking and listening around trying to come up with the best price/performance deal I could find, I settled on the Yamaha. A nice neutral sound really lets me tailor things to my room. At 85 watts all around, it's big enough to shake things but limber enough to not piss off the wife. Definitely a unit to check out if you're in the market. |

Well I am a musician(drummer). I listen to alot of music. This system is phinominal, I got it last night. I am rally brown away by it's features. You see I wanted to get a good system but could not get it all at one time. This reciever lets you tell it how many and what type of speakers you have hooked up to it, so it can compinsate. I do not have a center channel or a sub yet. I watched diva's live on vh1. the sound was awsome. I am running it through rs3's right now, with some cheap surround speakers. got it for 612.00 through onecall.com arrived in perfect condition. |

This is a great system. I listened to HK-45, Onkyo-656, Denon 2700, man the power and the clarity on this box beats the heck out of the other guys. I wanted to buy the Yamaha-795, which was also rated pretty good in this forum. Unfortunately, you cannot get Yamaha-795 over mail order and Yamaha makes the RXV series only for retail dealers. I however checked the RXV-795 (in United Audio and ABT) and the RV-1105 in Best buy. They are exactly the same, the only difference I could find was in the display. RV has a golden yellow display and RXV have white. I got the system from onecall.com at 612 (s&h inclusive). With my Infinity RS-5 (front), RS2(surround) and CC-2 (center) and BU-120 subwoofer, it rocks the place. I recommend this system highly. |

I've had this unit for about 3 weeks now. I'm pretty happy with it. Good quality, lots of features. The only thing that's bothering me is the bass. I've been using it only for home theatre since I bought it. But a couple of days ago I popped in Enigma MCMXC A.D. With bass boost off and the bass adjustment set to normal, the bass was almost completely missing. It sounded better with bass boost on and the adjustment all the way up. But I would expected it to completely BOOM at those levels. I'm using Eosone RSF600 speakers (which I really like). They had much more bass with my last receiver (Kenwood). I'm thinking that Yamaha might be sending most of its bass to the subwoofer (which I don't have) and very little to the front speakers, even though they are in LARGE mode. 5 stars for HT, 4 for music so far. |

Great Receiver!!! Flawless AC-3/DTS decoding!!! I tried a Kenwood VR-2080 and returned it after three days of frustration. This receiver is the phenomenal and I would recommend it to anyone.I wish I could give it 10 stars!!! |

I just purchased this unit open box from Best Buy for $610.00 and I am quite happy with the sound of it. Stereo music is played back with amazing detail and depth. The Dolby Digital will part your hair. The only problem with this unit thus far is the S-video set up. It is designated for VCR only?? Whats up with that. Could some one e-mail me and give me a heads up on how to hook up[ the DVD S-in and obtain Dolby Digital decoding with the coaxial Digital out cable. Thanks for any input. |
