Love the Yamaha RX-V2092 and have had it for about a year. I am planning to upgrade it to a new Yamaha RX-V2095 mainly because the 2092 only has one optical digital input and two RF digital input.
The optical digital input and one RF digital input are only for a LD/DVD player and the other RF input is for a DBS (dss) system. I have a DVD player and have just ordered the new Sony SAS-AD4 dolby digital dss system with an optical digital output.

The 2092 is great, but it needed more optical and RF digital inputs. The 2095 will give me four more optical digital inputs. I hate to bite the bullet and spend more to get the extra inputs, but down the road, they are needed.

I recently purchased this unit. So far, it's great. The DD decoding is fantastic and there's power to spare.
There is only one thing worried about, and it's called DTS. Before purchasing this unit, I was told that DTS was just another form of Dolby Digital, and that it would never last. Now that I have the unit, I'm starting to hear more and more about DTS. Where do you all think DTS going. If it's going to catch on, will be possible to plug a DTS decoder into the receiver for DTS sound, or will I have to upgrade to the 2095?

I just picked up my 2092 for $850 and am VERY impressed. I am upgrading from a Sony STR-DE715 (POS) and am blown away. I am using a bastard setup due to insufficient funds for a full set of new speakers. I have JBL 4410 Studio Monitors up front (VERY nice for the price), some JBL's for the centers, Bose 301's for the rears, and a Panasonic A120 DVD. First thing I tried is Ch 2 from Armageddon (where NYC gets blown to hell) YEEEHAA!!!!! Could not believe how good AC3 sounds. Seems like this reviever really lets the bass out, even 2ch music has a bottom end to it i never knew existed. A friend and I compared his Yamaha A1000+ some Polks to my set up using "Yello - The Race" That song rocks for demoing setups (lots of distinct left and right sounds, bass and highs, you get the point) I am no longer envious of his system. It still rocks, but now mine rocks as well. The 2092 has plenty of power (I've never gotten the dial past straight up), the remote was not as bad as I thought it would be, and will last a long time for me.

Strength:

Lost of clean power, plenty of outputs, digital surround modes.

Weakness:

The door to the controls/bass/treble.

About 2 years ago, i decided to go DD & upgrade from my "piece of crap" Pioneer reciever i had. After hearing the 2092 i knew it was what i wanted. I had read that Yamaha's surround modes sounded the most real. With the write source,(music video/concert,taped in a stadium or good venue,)"the sound can be amazingly real". As for power i find it has more than enough, with 150wpc/stereo,5x100wpc +25wpc DD/PL. I have the reviews for both the 2092 & DSP-A1 & there power bench tests were nearly identical. (Stereo Review 10/97, Output at clipping (2092, 10 seconds all 5 channels 116 watts, Stereo Review 6/98, DSP-A1, 116 watts). I'm not saying the DSP-A1 is'nt a good reciever, i just think they could have put "a little more power" into it for the hefty price. And at the time there was not even a single DTS DVD out yet & besides i am happy with DD. When i start to see as many DTS DVD's as DD, then maybe i'll upgrade. Back then i had 2 pairs of Bose Interaudio series, Model 4000 as my mains, each with a 10" woofer & 3" tweeter,Klipsch 1.5's & KV3 cc,with Definitive BP2's for front effects & a Sunfire sub & my friend said it sounded "Better THAN ANY Movie Theatre". I have since sold the Bose (i got about 8 good years out of them & they sound "a lot better than any Bose Life-styles cubes")& upgraded my mains to Klipsch 10.5's & could not be happier. I also bought a pair of demo 2.5's which i am now using as surrounds along with the 1.5's. A couple of salesman said i had to use the speaker outputs or a seperate amp for two pairs of speakers, "NOT". I am using the rs speaker outputs for the 2.5's & a seperate amp for the 1.5's. I have added another Sunfire sub since then & would realy like to get another pair of 1.5's for the front effects as having matching or similar speakers can make a difference. I realize i've been saying more about my system than the actual reciever, so in closing i just want to say "hats off to Yamaha",a great value for the money & i am totally satisfied with my 2092 & have never had any problems,& i can play music pretty loud some times. The "only thing" i dont like about it is the door on the front to the tone controls. The 3090,DSP-A1,have balance push at the bottom doors, the 2092 has to be pulled opened at the sides, which is real pain in a narrow cabinet, but i can live with that.

I recently upgraded from a yamaha rx-v990 to the rx-v2092. The 990 was noslouch however, the 2092 is a major league receiver ! The 2092 comes 100
watts per channel front, center, and rear channels with an additional 50
watts for front effects. AC-3 decoder built in, making it unnecessary to
purchase the additional DDP-1 yamaha external decoder. The DSP modes are
excellent. The receiver does not come cheap it's sticker price is $1599,
which I paid. The dealer took back my 990 at full value after 3 months only
because I was upgrading. I still had a trick up my sleeve, I told the
salesman that I would pay sticker for the 2092 receiver if he would sell
me a Sony DVD at cost ($640)? The first saleman said no but the more hungry
salesman the next day said yes. You should try this sometime, it works 90%
of the time. The guy makes a nice comission on one piece only.

Strength:

I love the true power. More than enough power to power my parties.

Weakness:

I don't like the remote. It it is very confusing and a little over whelming.

It was a lot of money, but worth every penny. No regrets here!
