Strength:
-Incrediable clarity of sound
Weakness:
- Not enough power to run my main speakers(not really a weakness of the RXV-795, I just should have bought the next higher system) The RXV-795 has been a wise investment for me and has allowed me to realize the full potential of my stereo system and home theater. I did not rrealize how poor the Kenwood unit formally used was until I installed the Yamaha RXV-795. I highly recommend the the Yamaha. Similar Products Used: Kenwood 9030 which had weak power, no main pre-outs or pre-out to the sub and poor clarity of sound in general |

Strength:
Solid Unit, Cinema DSP,
Weakness:
Remote, Hook ups in the back for your surround & center Cannel speakers, but Its no big deal. Very happy with this unit. Great sound and well built. I like the fact that it has Cinema DSP for your movies, 6 modification sounds (EACH) for your PRO-LOGIC, DOBY-DITGITAL & DTS, and thats not including church, hall etc. etc. Also great for music too!!! I recommend this receiver for someone who loves to watch movies with great sound! This one gets a 5 star in my book. Similar Products Used: Yamaha RXV895 |

Strength:
Great Sound, its a Yamaha, A large amount of Tweeking to get into
Weakness:
Weak without matched speakers This is a great reciever for a beginner Home Audiophile. I have had this unit since 12/98, and am always amazed at how it sounds. Music is great, not to mention its DVD/VHS playback. Rear inputs are good, but it needs some fine tuning, concerning the S-Video jack. I think this was corrected, as my friend bought a RxV595 with multiple input svideo jacks. A great bagain, with current prices down to 500.00. It has quite a few DSP's, most of which are seldom used, plus endless ways to modify the sound. Only bad thing with this is the fact the sound cuts out when changing modes, rather than a seamless transition. Quite annoying to my guests as I fool around with the sound, to get it "just right." I discovered yesterday at a local electronics store (Good Guys) that Yamaha is now offering an updated version of the 795 called the 795a that addresses a few of the primary gripes about the 795. The 795a includes an additional S-video input for the DVD and heavy-duty binding posts for ALL of the speaker connections (not just the mains). The sales guy at Good Guys also mentioned that the remote had also been improved, but I'm not sure how it is different (it still looked very similar to the previous remote). There may be other differences that I wasn't able to determine. Since I had to choose a rating even though I'm not officially rating the 795, I arbitrarily chose 4 stars so that it would have the least impact on the 795's average rating. |

I just want to say that this is the best thing that I've ever bought for creating a theater like experience at home. In my opinion the Receiver is the core piece of equipment for your home theater and everything else is built around it. This is the reason that I bought the Yamaha RX-V795. I just bought the Panasonic A110 DVD player, which is awesome, so I needed to ditch the Dolby Pro Logic for Dolby Digital. Man, I want to tell you that the difference between my Pioneer ProLogic receiver and the Yamaha Dolby Digital is astounding. I never thought that it would make this big of a difference. I thought it would be cool to have both speakers separate in the rear but I never expected much more. I can honestly say that I'm happy with my home system now. While watching Terminator 2 on DVD I was blown away. The sound seemed better than the Theater and the picture from the Panasonic A110 was crystal. I thought long and hard before buying the Yamaha and I looked at many other brands. None of them came close to the what you get with this unit. The clarity alone of the sound of the Yamaha should sell it. When I first put on a DVD I thought that the rear speakers weren't working because I couldn't hear a thing out of them but then they blasted me when a helicopter flew over head. No more low hiss or humming in the speakers when you really pump the volume up, just crystal clear sound. Another thing that I like and insisted on having was the built in DTS sound. I want to be prepared at least for the next wave of sound from DVDs and the Yamaha has DTS built in and ready to go. The only thing I have a little complaint about is the remote for the Yamaha. I was given the remote for the RX-V995 model which is leaps and bounds better than the one that should have come with the machine and it still seems like a chore to control my VCR and DVD player. This is a small gripe for such a great unit. All I can say to people reading this review is that if you are still listening to ProLogic and are considering moving to Digital then really consider the Yamaha RX-V795. I researched for weeks and this is the clearest and best bang for your buck. |

I have used my 795 for four days now. It was very easy to set up, and the remote is easy to use. I also use the remote for my new DVD-play Pioneer 717, my Panasonic TV and my Panasonic VCR. The sound quality is very good. I have tested it with the movies "Sphere", "Dark City" and "The Fifth Element". Using the additional DSP makes it fantastic. My old receiver had some problemes with Øystein Sevaags CD "Bridge" (track 2 with the piano). The 795 is excellent. The RDS is fantastic and the sound is crisp and clear.I have bought the titan version and like the looks of it. |

I have had the RX-V 795 for about a week and a half now and all I can say is I love it!! Went from a budget JVC pro logic receiver to Yamaha what a fantastic upgrade. I got it in town for $699, no interest for 90 days (everything is negotiable!) Clean power, great setup, wonderful decoding and the DSP's are pretty cool. Great for music and movies. I think its comparable to receivers consting a couple of hundred more, so you get quite a bit for you dollar. Can't reccomend it highly enough- yes the remote does kinda suck, but it can do a few things pretty well. This is matched with my Optimus Pro LX 8s in the front,Pro LX-77s in the rear, Pro CS5 for center and a 100 watt JBL powered sub. Radio shack and Yamaha a match made in heaven! |

I upgraded to this reciever recently from the Denon AVR-600. The variety of inputs & outputs is staggering. The sound quality is great. What sold me on it was the inclusion of DTS. I don't mind the remote, although for some reason it refuses to work with my television (RCA). The binding posts for the center and surrounds are worse than those for the Denon, which surprised me. The only other problem I've had (and the reciever is probably not the cause) was with my VHS tape of Face/Off. For some reason, most of the sound went to the center speaker in Pro-Logic mode, and the other modes had a weird echo between the L/R and center speakers. Other VHS tapes were fine. I look forward to getting a DVD player! The tone bypass was a nice inclusion. |

I compared this receiver to H/K's, Denon's, and ES-Sony's and I couldn't find more bang for the back. I think the receiver is absolutely fantastic. I read the specs on this at the Yamaha site and noticed that it shares many of the same components that the top of the line Yamaha's have (including the processing chip). |
