As I'm not a huge enthusiast, but rather a casual listener, I didn't want to spend an arm and a leg on my new equipment. The Yamaha 795 suits me MORE than fine. This is a very nice receiver. The $700 I paid was well worth it; very inexpensive considering DD 5.1 and DTS built-in. Although it lacks in S-Video inputs, and I might be ina bind in the future, for now it suits me fine. The remote is a bit awkward (read Star Trek) but I guess I can get used to it.Very good quality, great options. If your not looking to go broke buying a great receiver, take a listen to the 795. You'll be glad you did.
4 BIG stars for quality, and the last one added for price.

To all the people compaining about it having cheap speaker outputs, and a cheap remote. First compair the 795 to the upcoming 995. Is it actually worth a extra $200 for 3 better speaker posts, a remote that just adds learning capability (which is really hard to set up), and a amplifier that is a little better in the low octave range. The RX-V795 was meant for the low-budget community who wanted DTS. The RX-V79_ is always the cheapest receiver incorporating the newest technology. It has all the same features as the 995 except it doesn't have REC OUT, and it has a slightly weaker amplifier. Also this really annoys me when people diss Uncle's Stereo. Uncle's Stereo doesn't resell used equipment if they did the BBB Would be up their ass and would kick them off the BBB Online Org. They meet the certain standards and if the government says that they are good, then I will buy from them.

I just purchased the model from Uncle's.
My sales person was Mark.

It was very scary talking to him.

It was like we were discussing an illegal deal or something, because he
was just rushing with pressure to get it over with. I hope he got all of
my info right. Because, I wouldn't want to call back there again.

I got it for 599 though, and with 25 bucks shipping to Pittsburgh ground delivery.

The V795 has awesome sound when coupled with the proper speakers. I got rid of my out dated Bose set. And upped to Energy C-2's with a velodyne sub. Matched with a 60" Panasonic TV. I no longer have to go to the movie theater and peel old gum off my shoes. DVD is incredible. For the price of the unit I highly recommend it. Just get some good speakers too.

Somebody asked below what the difference was between the RX-V795 and the RX-V1105 because they are seemingly the same.
I was told by Myer-Emco that the V1105 was a model made for Best Buy. Its a slightly cheaper version. They referred to it as the "A" model and the V795 was the "B" model.

I owner one for a month. Good overall quality that you expect from yamaha. Excellent Value for a DD/DTS model (I paid ~525 US$) Music wise I give it a 6/10. Not quite enough jam for me and I found that when you hit the threshold it deteriorates quickly! upto that limit it was very nice. Stable, quiet, and didn't do anything it was not supposed to.HT-wise I give it an 8/10. More features than the 793 that it replaced. More DSP modes and more control over them. DTS and a 6-channel in are going to extent the life abit I am sure! The power here seemed adequate.
I like the one screen menus but I hated the fact that it forced me to use composite to use it. All my stuff is component or S-Video.
The remote seemed cheap when I first saw it but I quickly came to like it. small, worked with all my gear (even RCA DBS!) and has a few glow in he dark buttons. The wheel is occasionally a pain but I did not mind in after using it for a few weeks.

music is 3 stars HT is 4 stars but since Hoever buys it will be using it for HT (95% anyways) I'm giving it 4 stars!

Overall the best value DTS model in these here parts!

I just purchased the 1105 (same as the 795) from Mark @ Electronics Warehouse (217-224-6171). The unit was only $625 including s&h. Mark was also very helpful. I can't wait to get it!!!!

I love this receiver! I've had it now for over 2 months, and the sounds never cease to amaze me. I don't have a sub, and when the level is switched to "Sub Off," there's still plenty of bass being driven from the front speakers.
My only complaint is with the remote, as everyone seems to agree. The remote can be confusing to use. It does, however, act as a true universal remote. I have just about all different brand componants (JVC VCR, Sony TV & CD, Pioneer DVD/LD Player) and it works them all!! Once you use the remote enough, you definitely get used to it.

I haven't been able to experience DTS through the receiver yet, since I haven't bought or rented any DTS DVDs, but I am confident that it'll sound just as amazing as everything else that has come through it!
