Strength:
This is a class A amp
Weakness:
May not pair well with other high end gear I would just like to say after reading some of these comments that this Classe like most Classe products are very good. You can't expect a great amp to sound like a great amp when you use it in conjuction with cheap head gear or a preamp like like an old Dynaco or a new integrated amp you purchased for $300. And you can't expect a great power amp to make a pair or discount store speakers sound much better that a $300 receiver. Similar Products Used: Vintage Macs and real Marantz eg. 7c and 8b, as well as newer high end and professional products. |

I have owned two classe products in the past and I am considering buying another I turned to the review section and I cannot believe what some people could write here I have listened to MOST of the amps thaT Audiophile's( and I use that term very loosely in this section) talk about in this section and I do like the classe alot I think it is soft smooth clean and powerful(just like I like my women)I dont think that any of the amps disscused are JUNK they all work well, they are different but they all work well. I would like to write to all of the people who bashed the CLASSE |

I purchased this amplifier used about six month ago. It is approximately 18 onths old. I was extremely satisfied with its performance until yesterday. My opinion wa changed when I started hearing strange noises out of the speakers and smoke pouring out of the amplifier. After opening the case, I found that one of the high quality electrolytic capacitors had decided to incinerate itself along with some adjacent components. What is even more concerning, is that none of the fuses blew. I am really concerned that a major fire could have occurred if I had not been in the room to shut off the power to the CA-200. So much for Classe's reputation for quality components and well designed equipment. It will be interesting to see how badly Classe rips me off because of their use of inferior components. Five stars for the amplifier performance. NO STARS FOR THE QUALITY OF COMPONENTS OR SAFETY FEATURES OF THIS AMP. |

This is a follow up to my review of September 6, 1998. My Ca-200 was repaired at no charge and is working as well as before the failure. I was a bit concerned because I was not the original owner and I thought that I might have a problem with the warranty, but this was not the case. Although I am still a little concerned about the failure described in the Sept. 6 review, I am very pleased with the way Classe' handled the situation. |

Yes, this is a very nice sounding power amp, but it does not compare to a krell kav250. I mean don't get me wrong it has earned it's 4 star's but not 5. So if your in the market for an amp like this make sure you listen to a krell, pass and a used Jeff Rowland. |

The Classe CA-200 is a wonderful power amp if you have the right peripheral equipment and cables to work with it. Most of the nay sayers in this column appear to be hearsayers or users accustomed to using low fi accessories with their old low fi equipment, for example Bose speakers. If you cannot afford better accessories, forget about investing in this wonderful product because that way you would have saved yourself 3,000 and the time you use to mislead people with your 'garbage in, garbage out" experience. For $3000 you can buy a different amp but not a better amp. Period. |

Chester D and Tamil Nadu from India please check the general discussion area of this site for my full comments regarding Chester D's hatchet job review of the CA-200. I own the CA-300 (also see that section for my review -- my general opinion of the CA-300 also goes for the CA-200). At the time I purchased this amp, the store did not have a CA-300 open or on display so all of my auditioning was based on the CA-200 because of their similar presentations. What I heard during the audition of the CA-200 was very good indeed. When I took the CA-300 home and hooked it up, what I heard was even better than in the store. Chester, Tamil, you are not audiophiles, but enthusiasts. Unfortunately, your incompetent reviews will only serve to bring down the overall rating of the CA-200. Audiophiles know that mixing revealing, high-quality electronics with mass market dreck is a bad recipe. Enthusiasts are enthusiastic about their hobby but have a lot to learn. I give the CA-200 the same as I did the CA-300. Five stars. |

Chester, what preamp did you you use? What speakers did you use(Bose are'nt speakers)? Did you really buy this amp without auditioning it first at the store. Does everyone smell a BOGUS review? |

Chester D, regarding the Classe CA-200, the webmaster does not want flame wars conducted in the review area of this site. I have already posted my reply to you in the discussion section, which obviously you have not looked at, so maybe this policy is not working. As it is, I am risking the threatened ban from posting to respond to you here, but I think this topic is important enough to take that chance just this once. I don't doubt that you are satisfied with the equipment you have, but you and other with similar thinking are misguided. Washington D.C. is not that far from New York City. THIS IS AN OPEN INVITATION TO YOU TO VISIT ME IN NEW YORK AND LISTEN TO MY SYSTEM. JUDGE FOR YOURSELF is Classe is junk or not. I guarantee, you will not be wasting your time. I WILL EVEN PAY FOR YOUR GAS. I used to be like you, stubborn, believing that the high end was a waste of time. I threw good money after bad before discovering high end components. I am very satisfied with my system. Non-audiophiles who visit my house leave with their jaws literally dragging on the ground, so impressed are they with the sound of the Classe components. By the way, the canadians are no less real French than Italian-Americans and Irish Americans are not real Italian and Irish. If after my reaching out to you with an olive branch you can't understand this then you are beyond help and I am sorry for you. I have found the performance of the Classe CA-200 to be state-of-the art. Five Stars. |
