Nice build quality, great and quick service, great looking serpentine cable

Well, first of all, most of what I read says that spending any real high money on cables is a big mistake. People who spend upwards of $1,000 are considered nuts. My opinion is that mega buck cables are probably not any more effective than much more economical models. But am only a simple reviewer. But should warn all, you probably are not going to notice a major improvement.

I contacted an exclusive distributor of a custom type audio cable. The seller right up front said I would not hear a difference, but that I would convince myself that I did once I spent the money. He advised against the purchase.

Higher end cables offer at least (4) advantages. (1) Gold tipped connections provide good contact and zero oxidation. (2) most upscale cables are well insulated against outside sources, (3) the fact that one is eliminating the twisting of copper wires at the connections perhaps limits the chance of shorting out the system and (4) the cable may increase the gauge over typical simple cable. Other advantages are always claimed, but lord knows how does one verify these claims?

So given the above, I sought out a quality cable, but not a magical one. Lord knows this should create an uproar; but after some research, Bettercables.com as well as Monster proved to be fine products.

Now, having purchased cables from Bettercables.com (and Monster), I am very pleased. Can I see/hear some major difference in my Denon etc. system? - well I guess. But as mentioned above, I buy my cables for different reasons.

The Bettercables people were very helpful and fast!! I screwed up my first order - and they were totally professional about return and replacement. Highly recommended.

Strength:

Good value.

Weakness:

That depends.

This is a public-service announcement. System-specificity is the key to choosing wires. The only good cable is one you have tried out exactly where you want to try it. Your messing with electricity, not plastic or metal here! Price is not really a gauge of a cables effectiveness - cheap may actually work better in your particular instance. I've found BetterCables are well made and a good buy... And that is all! Our personal tastes are just that,so the only Golden-Rule is BEFORE YOU BUY IT,TRY IT! Do not spend more than $50 bucks on a wire-set if you cannot do this. Happy Trails!

Strength:

good quality easily matches more expensive cables

Weakness:

easily matched by less expensive cables

I purchased bettercable interconnects to go between my dvd player and premamp and my preamp to my amp. Conclusion: I couldn't tell the difference between the bettercable and my much more expensive apature cables ....WIN for bettercable....BUT....I also couldn't tell the difference between the $59/pair bettercable and my $28/pair Monster Cable 400MKii
Therefore: hats off to bettercable for making a good quality interconnect...However...as a matter of economics I will call bettercable and ask for a refund.

I enjoy these cables a lot. They sound charactheristics put them with the best on the market for much lower price. They replace Monster cable MK-400. Also has compare to Tributaries and MIT. I prefer these.

Bought the tara labs prism 55 interconnect at a local store for $100 and compare it with the interconnect from bettercable. Since I cannot hear a difference, I return the tara labs interconnect.

Strength:

Solid Build, Customer Service, Looks(doesn't make 'em sound any better though), and, well, that's about it....

Weakness:

Poor Match For Tube Audio Gear, VERY Full Midrange, No High End Definition To Speak Of, Lacking in Bass.

Ok, Well, I read all the rave reviews and decided to give these interconnects a shot. I am using an Anthem Pre2L preamp, Denon 370 HDCD source, 2 Sound Valves VTP-70i amps bridged mono or biwired depending on my mood, and a pair of Tannoy D-70 (UK=model 637) speakers. I just added the CD player and Preamp to the mix, and was being assaulted by overly bright high frequencies, so I decided to "tame" the sound a little by trying new 'connects.
Bottom Line: These cables would be perfectly suited for a Solid State system that has a built in "Loudness" type sound. What I mean is that it's empty in the middle, with boosted Lows and Highs, like a Yamaha receiver (it's what they call "Natural Sound"). In the case of Tube gear, where the sound is full, rich, lush, and dripping with detail, these cables exagerate the Mid-Range to a painfull, run from the room screaming, level. They were described as "Warm" by the manufacturer (on the phone). If this means the highs are cut off (castrated is a better word), and the bass lacks authority, while the midrange hits you with a blind side left and leaves you realing, blood streaming from your eyes and ears, well, then they're "Warm" alright. I'm sending mine back tommorow, after 2 weeks of trying to live with them. They are being replaced by MIT-6, MIT-5, and or MIT-4's, just depends on what my local guy has used :)
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure these cables work quite well on certain Solid State systems, and the build quality is incredible (thought the connections are quite loose), and they "LOOK COOL", they're just too fat in the midrange. Everyone had a stuffed up nose, and was sitting 2 feet from me when I listened with these cables. Very flat soundstage as well, went from 10 feet wide by 10 feet deep, to 6 feet wide by 3 feet deep. I'll give 3 stars (a solid "C") due to the build quality, and the fact that I'm sure these would sound good on a Solid State system....tube gear can be a bit fickle/unforgiving.

Strength:

The look good

Weakness:

Just OK sound, nothing to write home to mom about.

If you enjoy simply looking at the cables for their expensive look, your in luck. If you want high end sound they are just ok. At this price you should try them. For a mid priced system they are good. My ratings are more based upon expense/sound ratio.

Strength:

Well-built, reasonable turnaround time, good sound.

Weakness:

None for the money

Had a pair of custom Y-interconnects made by BetterCables. Workmanship was very good/ I've used them for subwoofer front channel duties, and the sound is comparable to the DH Labs Silver Sonics I own.

If you have a system that is less than $5,000, I would imagine that these cables could do a very decent job for you. Great value for the money.
