Fantastic picture and sound. No lip sync evident here on my
Weakness:
Not a one. You can sure see the lip sync problems with inferior DVD players when you have a large screen to view it on. Denon shines bright with this player. May not be expensive as some of the competition this unit matches up against but an excellent player in this price range is certainly what you get with the Denon DVD-100. Kudos DENON! Awesome video, sturdy build, and great sound.

Lip-synch problem and Remote is not great. Well I was ready to get a new player, so I went shopping, read some reviews here and I stumbled across a Denon DV-1000 at Sears, open box for $130.00. I couldn't pass it up because I knew Denon was a well known brand and known for their standards. Purchased it and brought it home, hooked it up to my JVC RVX-65000 Reciever with DD and DTS and tested out Ghostbusters. I didn't notice the lip-synch problem until I watched Austin Powers the next day. I tired adjusting the center delay on my reciever and it helped a little bit. But what should I do now, I want to keep the player, but I read about a firmware update. How do I go about contacting Denon to get this problem fixed? best sounding dvd player in the under $500 catagory solid construction
Weakness:
flimsy remote, a little on the noisy side This was a replacement player for a dvd 1500, which i purchased from u-bid for $219. The dvd 1000 has performed great. No lip sync problems, no skipping and really is the best sounding player I've heard. Achieves a very warm and balanced sound, excellent bass response. I did a head to head comparison with a pioneer elite fr7 player. In video department, the pioneer had a slightly better brightness, was pretty even with the denon on tint, but contrast i gave to the denon. It seemed that the blacks were just blacker. The denon did have a little more dot crawl. In audio, no contest the denon had better impact and more depth than the pioneer elite. So in the video department it scores upper middle. Overall for the money it is a good deal and i can say they did clear up the problems of the dvd 1500. I have to say that Denon was very good about replacing the player. After the second time bringing back the 1500 the floor manager at Denon in Torrance CA just replaced it with a brand new 1000 (the 1500 was a refurb from ubid) and no they never did solve the problems of the 1500, even after the eprom chip upgrade it wasn't right. The one thing that really urks me is that lousy remote, what was Denon thinking????? cheap plastic and small buttons. Similar Products Used: denon dvd 1500 great sound but a lot of problems |

lip sync Watched one movie to check for the lip-sync problems noted on this site. I probably wouldn't have noticed right away if not for the comments of others previously posted here. Anyway, returned the unit to the store and traded for a Panasonic RP56 ($18 more with progressive scan)and now I am happy. If the unit had functioned correctly I would have given 4 or 5 stars - but.... Similar Products Used: Panasonic RP56 |

Video noise visible during fade out to black screen. Drive motor noise present in the audio during no sound passages at high volume levels. Purchased this unit to replace my Philips DVD, Which I planned to give to my son, as an impulse buy mainly due to the Denon name and the fact that it was only $200 and Sears took another 10% off due to display model. Well, you know what they say about a little knowledge! After reading the reviews here I was, Shall we say, very concerned! I could not see any problems with " lip - sinking" but the unit had visible video noise any time the screen faded to black. Also during a high volume test when the source audio faded to off, I noticed a loud rumble noise form the system speakers. Turns out it was coming from the DVD. I suspect the drive motor was producing this noise as it stoped when I hit the "stop" key. At this point I had decided the unit was headed back for a refund. To make matters worse the Philips DVD I had given to my son decided to die as he hooked it up. No video and only the slightest audio out. This one is headed to the dumpster now - anyone need the remote or manual! Similar Products Used: Philips, Toshiba, Pioneer |
