Strength:
1000% improvement over my old Sony DVP-S500D DVD player which is considered a solid performer on here at its $500 price. I thought It was nice, until I met denon!
Weakness:
if you consider a dvd player weighing 20lbs. a weakness then I guess you'd put it here....I don't have any complaints, and doubt that I ever will. Just Picked up my New unit last week, and WOW what a HUGE difference!! I have done some research on Quality DVD players (Over $500) and found the denon was Hard to beat for overall specs and performance. Seeing is believing! I was very critical going in to view this unit in action. I had put up with standard interlaced DVD for over 4 yrs now, and seeing how I had upgraded the TV with a 53" Widescreen HDTV monitor from Hitachi 53SBX01B (see my review for that great product) I had to match the Clairity that the TV produces, and let me tell you its a winning combonation! The absolute crystal clear picture, and sound is breathtaking! I am running the dv-3800 through my Denon 4800 receiver and I have to say its all been phenominal! Music, movies, overall has been drastically improved. So to put it in a nutshell....go get this unit (or all 3 for great results) and you'll be glad you did! Strength:
Build quality. Picture and sound are outstanding...NO MORE CHROMA BUG!!!!!
Weakness:
Some samples still exhibiting lock-up problems. I have owned a sony player as well as a Pioneer Elite DV-47A DVD player before I purchased the Denon 3800. The picture quality as well as the sound is better on the Denon 3800. Best of all, the "chroma bug" problem is a thing of the past. Some samples of the players still have lock-up problems (the first 3800 I had locked up so I returned it for one built in September...so far so good). I believe for the price, you cannot find a better player. Highly recommended! |

People, fix the Denon DVD-3800 review section.. Everyone was reviewing the unit based on bugged models. Some of them had Chroma bug and lockups. All of Denon's newly manufactured models are fixed and are outstanding.. The DVD-3800 is one of the best DVD-Players you will find. |

Strength:
Build Quality, Vid , sound is outstanding, Price point great for this product.
Weakness:
Gets a little warm , I turn off the display and keep my glass rack door open, It helps considerably . Being a huge Denon fan , I would have bought it without test driving . I have the older 2500 and did a side by side comparison to see the advancements and was blown away . I am sending this signal to an 65 in HDTV Mits Diamond , what a treat for your eyes. Use component folks, spend a few bucks on some decent wires and you will see a difference. The menu system is very easy to navigate and gives you great control over display modes ect. The remote has something to be desired, however I am looking for a master remote to replace 8 that I have to shuffle around. If your budget allows go for it you won't be dissapointed . Geat Sound Great Picture DVD-A DVD-R/RW
Weakness:
Stutters Locks up Wont reconize some discs Generly frustarating and annoying. The Denon DVD-3800 has to be the best all around DVD player out there in my opinion. It has every feature that I could possibility imagine and more, great sound quality, supurb picture quality, and plays MP3/DVD-A/JPG/MPEG-1 Etc. With the above said, this is the most ANNOYING AND FRUSTRATING player I have ever owned!! Here are my gripes: stutters and skips on about %20 in any format (cd/cdr/mp3/dvd/dvd-a/dvd-r/etc....). repeatable examples: fantasia 2000 tracks 14 and 15 QAF season 1 all disks (wont even recognize disk 3) sting - nothing like the sun - random stutters thru-out dvd-a disk. these are all brand new disks and work fine in my other players (pioneer, sony, yamaha) i have exchanged the unit once and still get these repeatable probles plus the random ones. Denon tech support is no help at all, told me to trade it out again (3rd unit)and the sent me the firmware update and that didnt help at all (sept for the chroma bug in toystory). Anyone out there haveing similar problems?? Going to trade it in again (if my dealer will let me) and will update here if there is any improvement. Similar Products Used: Sony, Pioneer, Yamaha |

Awesome picture. Plays JPEGS. I just picked this up. I have a high end Rotel system but I have been holding off on buying high end cd/dvd for technology to improve. Since i bought a 46" TV i could wait no longer. I tested a Pioneer Elite first. The picture on this absolutely blows the other away. Almost 3D. Sound is fantastic as well. I am hearing all sorts of new things on my old DVDs. It is also real substantial. An absolute tank. I hope to have it for years to come. |

I already wrote a review and just want to add that if you want to here a perfect dvd-audio you have to try "A night at the opera" from queen. It's really fantastic. I've never heard something pure and real like this. I bought it at dvdplanet.com for only $16. Dvd-audio is smashing and should become more known. I want to give again a high rate because the dvd 3800 deserves more than this average. People how don't like the 3800 should check their ears!! |

Strength:
Picture is so good, its nearly 3 Dimensional Chroma bug is fixable in about 10 seconds CD playback is excellent Build Quality. It ways more than 20 lbs. The Pioneer was feather light and plastic
Weakness:
No display dimmer memory or option Heavy, must work out before buying one First, I know that there's a chroma bug with this unit, but its slight at best, and Denon has a fix. All you have to do is call and spend 10 seconds after the disks arrive and its gone. I have owned a Sony 9000ES, Denon 4800, and Pioneer Elite 47A in the past 2 years. To say I'm picky is an understatement. My current system consists of a a B&K 307 reciever, Sony XBR 400 TV, Sonus Faber Grand Piano Home, Solo and Wall speakers, and pure silver cables made by me. The Denon is by far the best DVD of the bunch. The 9000Es had a big time chroma bug as did the Pioneer. I was watching U-571 a few weeks ago and there is a scene in the sub where there was a red light. That scene made the Pioneer look like a first generation APEX DVD player. You could see horizontal lines through and around the most red parts of the picure. It looked like a Sat Dish picture on a snowy day. I played it again with the new Denon and it was perfect. The Denon also seemed to add a 3-D effect to the picture that I had never scene before or heard of. The opening scene in Armageddon with the comet and earth was fantastic and with a new added dimensional quality. The only issue I have is that you can't dim the display without using the remote. At least, I can't find it in the menu. As for CD playback, its better than the 9000ES, which was excellent. The Pioneer had average CD playback, but without the Legato Pro is was no better than a low priced CD player. I haven't listen to DVD-A on it yet. The choices for both DVD-A and SACD are not to my liking except for Stone Temple Pilots, but this is hardly music in which I can find any subtlity too and truly tell how good a DVD-A player it is. This player is a great buy if you want a DVD player that has state of the art movie playback and great CD playback especially for a DVD player. I would say that it is probably equal to a $600 dedicated CD player Similar Products Used: Sony 9000ES Pioneer Elite 47A Denon 4800 |

Strength:
Everything. Very good sounding. For the money you get more. Difference between 3800 and A1 is minimal. Price difference is maximal Anyone who wants to buy a great dvd-audio-player for the coming years should buy the 3800. It,s really a smashing player. I used the 1600 before and I am impressed about the difference between them. The 3800 sounds smooth and natural and does you believe that the music is in the room. Close your eyes and you will find your self at the concert. The only one thing I can find as weakness is that the player is getting very hot. The dvd or cd's are warm after a while. Too warm i think. Does anybody noticed the same? Picture is also very good. I'am more audiophil than videophile! I use the dvd 3800 with the Denon AVC-1D , Loewe Xelos TV, Dynaudio 1.3 front, Dynaudio 122C center and dynaudio 1.1 contour for back channels. Subwoofer is the REL 100. I love it! video quality, built,HDCD, audio, and again video quality.
Weakness:
No dvd+rw/r This is an incredible piece of equipment, the picture is the best in this price range, if you have a big screen tv 43 inches up to 70 inches you wont be able to tell the diference betwen the $1000.00 Denon and a $8000.00-$16,000.00 Krell or Meridia player, but if you are planning to buy a RGB projector("Vidikron the best")then you probabbly want to consider more options. The audio section of the 3800 is outstanding (best if you use Analog conections for pure direct) Similar Products Used: meridian, pioneer |
