Strength:

If u care for any Item it will care for u. I never leave it on, clean it with a dvd player cleaning disc and, it''s worked fine 4 me.

Weakness:

Bottom line is it really does suck. But i got a lil ghetto system to get around the glitch in the matrix. To turn my player on I hit the eject button, pop in the dvd and hit the play button don''t hit close then play it WILL get stuck. Never leave a disc in the tray. After u eject a disc out do NOT hit eject again to close it just hit the power button. U work it like that and it''ll be smooth sailin be hard headed and u WILL become a victim like of this site.

I had the same problems and still have sticking problems not often but I do get em. I called the company I was so frustrated with mines. The sent a software disc I inserted and followed the directions on how to install it and I''ve had little to no problems with it since then.

Is there a way we can send Oritron this page and show them how bad their enginering skills suck? I''d like a better player for free from them or at least a recall. JUST GIMME MY DANG MONEY BACK OR SUM

Strength:

when it plays, it plays fine

Weakness:

dvd's get stuck in it for minutes, hours, days...

I'm just glad that I found this website so I know it's not my particular unit that sucks so bad. I currently have "The Emperor's New Groove" stuck in the unit and haven't been able to get it out for 3 days.. It is buzzing every 3 seconds or so, and luckily other people appear to have had the same problem and take the cover off to remedy. When I can get the unit to open/close, I've never had any problems with picture although the sound did get really faint once or twice but since I've hooked it thru my Dolby system, I've never had it effect it. I would say that since this was a gift it was worth it for me, but I would say it's worth about $10. One other thing I'm about 95% sure it causes is my universal remote to lose the codes imputted for my VCR and TV to work thru my DirecTv remote. Everytime I use it the DVD remote light flashes.. and eventually, I have to reprogram the TV and VCR into my remote. I have now covered the sensor with a box, so it won't flash anymore.. seems to have fixed the problem.

all in all, this is a piece.

What a piece of crap. Sure, it was cheap, but now mine is broken, and yours will be too. What a suprise, only a 90 day warranty. I want my money back.

Strength:

Price

Weakness:

Everything else

As noted many other places, this "player" will not play many Disney discs, including Dinosaur and Emperor's New Groove, at all. Other discs play some times but not other times. It's extremely cheap (both in price and in quality), and it will play most of my movies. I believe it should play every movie every time, so even at the low price it is a poor value.

Strength:

Affordable, easy set-up

Weakness:

Lack of features

I wanted, for the longest time, to own a DVD player, but the lowest end Toshiba DVD, costing $276(CDN) was a real turn off for me, since I have a very tight budget with a wife and 4 kids. Enter Oritron. This Indian (not "raghead")company gave me an entry-level price and just enough features to get by on to introduce me to DVD players. Please note, that on writing this review, I've had the player for 3.5 hours. Since we have digital cable, it took about 25 minutes to figure where in the "chain" (digital receiver -> VCR -> TV) the hardware belonged. Add to that the need to re-adjust to a new remote config, and you have the total prep time to get used to the new configuration )approx. 40min.). Once that was done, no problem. I'm happy so far with the on screen menus, and even with a "low-end" system, I have options to adjust the sound quality and play my CDs.

This is important when consideringthe total cost of purchase. I could have easily paid over $150 for a new stand alone CD player, *plus* another $200+ for a DVD player, but got both in the same package, so in my eyes, I saved money. If you're just getting into DVD, I would recommend this little, cheap unit if only to get used to the features available to people who own DVDs. People on a budget should get this player, people who are audio/technophiles, should get something better/ This is the perfect little component for just starting out.

Collects dust well

Weakness:

You get what you pay for

I was deciding which DVD player to purchase as an initial foray into the DVD medium. My initial thought was to purchase a unit at a local Bryn Mawr or Cicuit City. Something in the $200.oo range name brand etc. Well I had purchased on ubid a few times and except for high shipping charges was very satisfied with the purchases. Until ORITRON. These are being sold as refurbs so I at least thought it would work out of the box. WRONG. The thing will play CD's without problem but stick in a DVD. Nope wont even recognize the disc. I guess I should have known better and expected as much from a no name refurb. What makes matters worse is upon contacting ubid they would only appologize and give me an 800 number for KOSS. Great customer service. Thank goodness my other purchases were OK. My advice would be to steer clear of this unit altogether but if you take the chance remember you really do get what you pay for.
