Strength:

Picture, price, ease of set-up and use.

Weakness:

Remote - if you really give a crap about the remote...I say get your ass up and hit the buttons if it bothers you that much!

Saw a lot of early reviews that talked about "pixelation" problems - have seen none of that to date. Also saw some problems with service from the on-line auctions.

Maybe I was lucky - got mine from Onsale.Com at $249 - a steal compared to some of the stores and other systems I've seen. Maybe there is a big difference between the A-120 and the A-120U. Maybe those other poor souls got lemons that had been abused by disgruntled stock boys. I've had no problems - it came in 2 days, and has worked like a charm. I've been watching movies non-stop...

Picture is awesome, even on my old dinosaur of a TV. I don't have too much fancy audio equipment either and the sound is great (too much for my neighbor, in fact...).

I think that this DVD player is a great first buy for people looking for price/quality combo.

This is my first DVD player, and I found it extremely easy to setup and get started. I had a little trouble with the remote at first, but now that I'm used to it it's ok. The picture is great, as is the sound; the only complaint I've had is that the volume is pretty low - I'm using the stereo outs into an old (non dolby-digital) receiver. It says this might happen in the manual, and it doesn't seem to affect the sound quality, so this is a minor thing. I'm hoping to upgrade my receiver soon so that I can use the digital outs.

Strength:

Easy to use remote, GREAT sound quality, Great picture, Great price!

Weakness:

Enhanced surround is a little cheesy.

This DVD player rocks! 115db of signal to noise ratio for CD's is crazy! When I first put on Dead can Dance's "spiritchaser" I jumped out of my chair. The soundstage was brought to life. Compared to my adcom, which always sounded great compared to most other "mid-hifi" CD players, the panasonic is light years ahead. The enhanced surround will make you laugh. Get a digital receiver, and it will rock! It has everyting but the kitchen sink on the back so no worries about compatibility. It also can play 96khz DVD's which is supposed to make the sound that much better for recorded music. Buy this machine or apologize for inferior machinery.

Strength:

Quick disc/movie startup time; Panasonic brand, known for reliability and low maintenance

Weakness:

No S-video cable included with the unit (this is not a major issue though, since most inexpensive, but decent S-video cables can be had for about $10 or less)

This player, unlike the piece of crap GE I thought I had gotten a good deal on ($172 at WalMart), just shines. The picture quality and detail is phenomenal, and I like the surround sound (for now, i'm just using 2 speaker stereo) going thru my Magneplanars, and a Monster S-video cable). There have been no artifacts after playing a few discs, which could not be said of the GE unit. Of course, if I do have any future problems as I use the unit (which I doubt after reading the reviews on the Panny), I will post again.

The only question I have, and I hope someone can e-mail me to help me out, is whether I hooked up the video part correctly. Basically, I have just the S-video cable connected to the back of my TV set's S-video connect jack, but do NOT have the regular supplied video RCA cable (yellow) connected between the player's video out and the video in on my TV, as page 10 in the manual maybe suggests?? I cannot tell whether Panasonic requires just the S-video connection, or both it AND the yellow RCA video out connection as well. Any advice would be appreciated!! Thanks in advance. Strength:

Low price, multiple digital outputs, and included component video output.

Weakness:

None found so far.

This player was my first experience with DVD and so far I have been very impressed. I was compairing four different players, the Toshiba 2109, the Pioneer 414/525, the Sony S330, and the Panasonic. The Lip-synch problems discussed on this review site turned me off to the Sony and the Pioneer. I went with the Panasonic becuase it had both a Toslink and a coaxial digital output. The Toshiba had only the coaxial.
I have noticed that most of the newer receivers that are comming out now in my price range, the Denon avr3300 and the Onkyo 777, have more Toslink inputs than Coaxial. I have both a LD player and a CD player with coaxial digital outputs so I needed to be sure that the DVD player I bought had a Toslink so I would not run out of digital inputs.
The picture quality of the Panasonic is amazing as compaired to a Pioneer Elite CLD-59 LD player. I was surprised that a mass market $279 DVD player could blow away my LD player in the picture quality department. I have not upgraded to Dolby digital yet so I cannot comment on the sound quality. The analog outputs on the Panasonic have been acceptable to me so far however.
I bought a less expensive DVD player because the technology is moving forward so fast. I wanted to get into DVD, but I did not want to have an expensive/out of date player. So far, I have not been disappointed with my decision.

Strength:

Good Picture, Component Video Out.

Weakness:

None Yet.

I bought the unit at 800.com for $299 with shipping + $50 in DVD movies + 5 Free movies + 13 Netflix rentals. Overall good purchase.

I've had no problems with the unit, the movies start very fast, the menu is very nice. I use the component video output to my new Toshiba 36" and the picture is awesome.

I considered the Toshiba 2109 but Sound&Vision mag rated the Panasonic higher than the Toshiba for picture quality, features and sound.

I would buy it again if I had the choice.

Strength:

Clear picture, quiet, loads discs instantaneously.

Weakness:

Great DVD player.
Would recommend it to anyone. Loads discs very quickly.
I don't care for the zoom fuctionality. The picture is sharp and it's even noticeable on my old '83 Toshiba TV.
One annoying thing I've noticed, is that the brightness of the picture is changing periodically. I do think that this is due to the age of my TV. It doesn't do it when I am watching regular programs. I am a little suspicious, but can't claim anything.

Strength:

Great sound & picture with a very usable menu.

Weakness:

Itty bitty remote buttons.

I really enjoy this unit. For the money it is hard to beat. Then again 2 years ago this unit would have been super high end so we are just kidding ourselves anyway about that price thing. Hey it is all relative. Anyhoo I bought it and I am not about to trash something I bought so, of course it is the best thing I EVER BOUGHT. Go figure.
Buy it online. I found it for cheap all over the place. Mine was $174 after Mercata.com adjusted for the bad experience with the Pioneer 525, but it wa only $240 without any "speacial" discounts, hey free shipping too.
Buy it.
