Weakness:

Poor quality control.

Hmm...I cannot comment about the "skipping" problem as I was unable to get the door open to insert my first DVD. I pressed the remote's Open/Close button and the button on the DVD player--the only actions I observed were OPEN, LOAD DISC, and NO DISC on the player's display. The door would not open on this brand new, straight-out-of-the-box DVD player. Could it be someone at SAMSUNG did not perform a quality check on this particular item or could it have been damaged during shipment? I doubt the latter as there were no signs of physical damage to the box or the player.
Anyway, the player has been returned and after reading the reviews at this site, I am now an owner of a Panasonic product. Unfortunately, the new player is at my mother-in-law's house awaiting me to pick it up.

Bottom line. Unless SAMSUNG improves it quality control and/or shipping procedures, I recommend spending your hard-earned cash on another manufacturer's product.

I've had no problems at all with this DVD. I'd recommend it to anyone. Crisp picture, awesome audio, all around great buy. No trouble playing movies or with skipping.

Strength:

Great features, nice design, serviceable remote.

Weakness:

Skips.

I chose the Samsung based on prior experience with a Samsung 27" TV, and the great price at Best Buy.

Although it played the first DVD flawlessly (Tarzan), on every other DVD I began to notice skipping at certain intervals in the movie. Since I did not wish to get involved with exchanges and warranty work from the get go, I elected to spend a little more and get a better quality player. Ended up with the Toshiba SD-2200, and am thrilled with how good it is.

Wish the Samsung had worked out, but it did not. Buyer beware!

Strength:

Picture Quality, Good Audio when using Optical Output, Strait Up Player for low $'s

Weakness:

Skips (What do you expect for $130.)

I didn't want to dump a lot of ching into a dvd player just to get a lot of useless features. The 611 is a strait up player. The only problem that I have is the occasional video skip. Considering the condition of rental dvd's and the not so high end transport that the 611 employs, I'm surprised the 611 plays as good as it does. Using the optical output, the audio quality I get when playing cd's comes very close in comparison to my $700 Parasound player. I usually experience one video glitch per dvd, start to finish. Other than that, the video is crystal clear. For the price I paid, I can't complain about a little glitch once in a while.

Strength:

Great picture. Great Sound. Lots of features for the price.

Weakness:

CAN YOU SAY S-K-I-P?!?
A remote control that can give you a full body workout (fingers, hands, arms, eyes and maybe even legs)

SKIP, SKIP, SKIP TO MY LOO!*#@#*%!
This would really be a great machine (great picture, great sound using optical, and overall features)if the darn thing would not skip so much. Some movies played fine straight through. Others skipped a couple of times. Some skipped almost constantly and realy became a bother. Some movies had to be coaxed into playing at all sometimes then at other times that same disc played fine!?! I thought maybe I would try to see if there was a pattern to any of the madness such as more problems when hot, etc., but this was not possible. It went on the blink (or shall I say skip) sometimes cold and hot.
Also the remote control adds to the frustration. I hate snaking my arm through the air sometimes while hitting a button several times before my command goes through.
I also lost sync toward the end of one disc by several seconds. It is difficult to score a machine that acts like Cybil!!!

big fat zero. if this is how samsung does business, i dont want any part of it. how about testing a product to make sure it works before selling it. lousy job. i will never buy samsung again, (not to mention that 3 of their hard drives have crashed and burned on me...pieces of sh!@#$)

Strength:

plays MP3, multi-regional

Weakness:

can't shuffle MP3's

I was quite surprised when I found this page, and the bad experiences other people have had. Maybe I have a different version of the player.
I have had no real problems with skipping; I have probably tested 15 or so discs and I think only one skipped (at one or two times). I haven't tried any rented discs however.
I think the picture/sound is good, but I haven't very much to compare it to.
I bought this player since it was a reasonably cheap multi-regional player (a must for anyone in Europe) and could play MP3's.

Strength:

Good Sound, Good picture when it doesn't skip or scrammble.

Weakness:

It skips and scrambles the picture!

I wish I read these reviews before I purchased this player. My biggest complaint is the amount of skipping during every movie I played. The last movie I played on it (Gladiator-Great Movie!) skipped about 6 times and the picture became scrammbled for a split second. These skips only last a split second but they really ruin the mood of the movie for me.

I took the player back after 2 weeks.

The sound was pretty good and was not affected by the video skips.

Cheap

Skips

It takes about 20 tries before A bugs life will play, about the same for American Beauty and other rented discs had trouble. It skips a lot, and the layer changes are very noticeable...lets just say the $64 Oritron performs much better than this player does. DO NOT get it, even if it's cheap.

Enough features to make it attractive for the price.

Weakness:

sk-sk-sk-skip... sracmble... skip. Wouldn't play some DVD's

Oh god. This is a crapper. It was cool for the first 20 seconds, and then the Matrix started skipping ubelievably. Wouldn't even play Gladiator. Anyway... to make a long story short, this abortion is going back to the store. My PC DVD player played better than this. Sound was moderate. Steer clear of this clunker. I traded it for the Toshiba SD-1600, and for the additional $40 it was well worth it.

Samsucks.
