Strength:
Very clear, easy menus, easy setup, good remote
Weakness:
Does not play CD-R's, skips slightly and only on a rare occasion Bought this DVD for the price and have been quite satisfied. The menus are about as straight forward as can get. The sound is very good and the picture is nice and sharp. Even when played with crappy, scratched-to-hell rental DVD's, this player RARELY skips. It's been almost 4 months now and the skipping has not increased. Before I got my new Wharfedale speakers, I placed my old speakers on top of the player, it never skipped on my own DVD's, which I do take very good care of, even at high volumes and high bass scenes. I get a "no-disc" error when I try to load CD-R's which is a bummer, but I never intended it to be used as a CD player to begin with. I would recommend this DVD player to someone on a very tight budget, but probably would tell them to save a little more and get a better one. I plan to use it until it's worn out. |

Strength:
Inexpensive. Works fine
Weakness:
Occasional skip. Not a big deal. Bought this for Christmas. Have had no problems except for an occasional skip on rental disks. Most of those disks have been dirty or had scratches. Wiping off the dirt before using makes a difference |

Strength:
Has good Picture, sounds great.
Weakness:
Skips Sometimes Yeah mine skips, but rarely. The wife got me this for christmas and, as you can tell from the price, it is a lower end model. If you want a flawless product, you are gonna pay for it. This is my first DVD player and I am having fun with it. For the price it really enhances the quality of the movie. The T2 Ultra edition with the metal case looks great. For the price it is a good machine. Similar Products Used: Just DVDs on Computers |

Strength:
Inexpensive, easy to use and great picture.
Weakness:
Remote is a little awkward but managable. Went to best buy to purchase Sony DVP-S360. After a long discussion with one of the salesman (who don't work for commission) I walked out with the Samsung and used the extra money for some DVD's and a Monster Cable S-video link. I have explored all the features this thing has with several high action DVDs (Gladiator, Hollow Man, Alien Resurrection, and more) and this thing hasn't skipped a beat. The picture is beautiful, the sound is great and it's got all the outputs (optic, coaxial, svid, composite) and features (zoom, smooth ) most of the $200+ DVD players have. All this combined with the fact it's easy as hell to set up/use and saves you some cash adds up to a great DVD player. Similar Products Used: Toshiba, Sony DVD players |

Strength:
This is for the samsung dvd 511 which is not much different than the 611. Optical out Why don't all dvd players have this? S-vhs out.
Weakness:
I find that it does skip sometime but if you make sure there is no dust on the disk it works just fine. I think that it's a great product but you need to take care of your DVD movies so it does not skip. I only had one major problem but I think it's the disk? I got X-men for x-mas and it does not load the disk but if turn off the player with the disk still in side, when I turn it back on the disk loads. No idea why but I have not had any problems like that with any other disks. And one last thing Why does everone think the Toshiba 1600 is so great it does not have Optical out So it's useless to a lot people buying new recievers because the coxial out is old and no longer needed. If it came with the Optical I would take my samsung back, but it does not so it's not as great as everyone thinks. Similar Products Used: Panasonic with built in decorders what a rip off paid way to much for it. $800.00 CDN. Sold and bought the 511. |

Strength:
Picture quality, features, price
Weakness:
Sound (maybe), remote buttons a little to small for comfort I'm writing this because I think the Samsung DVD-611 is receiving a rather unfair treatment. I'm not sure why I keep reading all these reports about skipping, but mine has been working great ever since I took it out of the box. I've only run three new DVD's through it at the moment (Gladiator, American Psycho, and DUNE) but they all worked great with no skipping or any other problems. My only complaint is that it seems to have a bit of a sound problem with my stereo, but its nothing major and is probably caused by the aging hardware in my stereo anyway. A great buy with good features and all the necessary outputs you could need. |

Strength:
Easy to hook up. Nice outputs.
Weakness:
None so far. I have read all of the reviews of the 611 and so far my 611 has not skipped or hesitated as the others have done. I have played both new as well as rented DVD's with no problem. Even the Matrix played without a problem. Just a heads-up, I suspect that some of these reviews might have been written by people who work for the competition and want to steer you towards their product. I'm giving it 4 stars since the machine is only a couple months old. I'll submit another review after 6 months of use. Similar Products Used: First DVD |

Strength:
Exellent Audio and Picture quality. Handles low bitrate DVDs good. Plays MP3s.
Weakness:
Sensitive to scratches and fingerprints. MP3 playing software isn't really good. Small remote controller. I bought DVD-611 because it was cheap, and i've read good reviews about it's audio and picture quality. I ordered it by mail and I was pleased that it came with finnish instructions how to make it region free. I've played lot of DVD's with DVD-611 and have noticed that it is quite sensitive to scratches and fingerprints. I rented Gladiator DVD and it was in pretty awfull condition. Full of scratches. Playing stopped in two places and there were lot of skips, but I think that no DVD-player would have played it without skips. I haven't had any problems with good condition DVD's, and that Gladiator's DVD was the only one that has done some skipping. DVD-611 also plays DVD's that have some low bitrate scenes like Matrix extremely well. |

Strength:
Easy menu, price, good audio
Weakness:
Skip, skip, skkkkkkkip Whew....Skip City. Seems like the longer we use it the worse the skip gets. The optical audio output is nice and overall the picture quality is acceptable. But the skip just kills the rest of the review. Don't waste your money on this one. |
