I was disappointed with this unit. It is ok as a DVD, not a good CD player as features go. |

Strength:
Versatility, 5 CD's at once. Good remote.
Weakness:
Lip Sync issues at times. No Zoom. Occasional pauses Overall, I am fairly satisfied with the player. Movies are generally excellent using the player. I'd say one out of three has at a portion of the movie where the sound and the video are not in sync. It lasts anywhere from a few minutes to half the movie. It's annoying, but if it's a really good film, you sort of forget it. |

Strength:
Good picture, Good sound from both DVD and CD
Weakness:
I've had no luck playing CD-Rs yet. Tried two other sony's that had bad lip sync problems!!! Poor of sony to let those hit the public. I returned them both and Got my sony DVP C650D. I am very pleased with this sony. NO LIP SYNC. I will try the CD-Rs with dark ink as recomended. I paid 499.00 at COSTCO. I really try to stick to COSTCO because you get NO HASSLE on any returns. OVERALL: very good value and performance. Similar Products Used: sony dvp330, sony dvp530 |

Jog Shuttle on Remote, not that big of a deal. This is an excellent DVD player. Many options and is very easy to navigate. DVD/DTS picture quality is remarkably good Similar Products Used: Toshiba, Denon, Panasonic, Pioneer |

My Question to Rick; have you also noticed that you cannot utilize the test tone in the optical mode? (I too have an Onkyo 777). Also can't pass 96khz signal in optical, it is down-converted to 48khz. Do you utilize both analog and video connections on this unit. Besides these 'quirks'(and the fact that when I view DVDs that I can hear the disk spin up from 10 ft away), the quality of the picture and the DVD audio soundtrack is quite remarkable. I also have audio CDs (not CD-Rs) that cause a 'no disk' reading. Have you experienced any of this? |

Strength:
5 disk capacity, play exchange, great remote that adds control of the TV and tuner without having to move switches
Weakness:
A little on the mechanically noisy side when switching disks around and spinning up to speed, but no problems while watching or listening to the disks Hey, being able to watch over 10 hours of movies without getting off your butt is kind of cool. Play exchange is an absolute necesity for a multi disk player..enabling you to switch disks out while one is playing without interuption. also has a drop down control panel on the unit in case you lose the remote...it doesn't become totally unusable. so far I have enjoyed this unit very much and have no real complaints. The remote is also a nice bonus...I know a lot of friends with hundreds (OK 3or4) remotes, and if you are using the dvd menu and all of a sudden something loud comes up and you have to turn it down you have to scamble for that other remtote...this has preprogramed the essential controls for a large number of TV brands (like channel, volume, power, and input select) it also allows you to set it up to control the volume on your sterio system so you have the really important functions of your TV and the volume of your receiver all on the same control for your DVD player. So all I have to do is hit the power button on the receiver as I come into the room, grab this remote, use it to turn on the TV, switch the input to video, turn on the DVD player and start working with DVDs. And even after that I have all the volumes on the same remote. |

Strength:
Super picture clarity, letterboxing is phenomonal.
Weakness:
An almost overwhelming feature set; hardware is kind of noisy. The picure quality via S-Video is superb (not able to try component video on our system). The crispness and fullness of the images blows composite video away. |

Strength:
Excellent picture and easy to use. Got for a reasonably good price on the net at $440. If a DVD is stopped, the player will pick up where the movie left off, even if the player has been turned off in the interim.
Weakness:
I didn't realize until I bought this player that it couldn't play CD-Rs. I've got a couple good Grateful Dead shows on CD-R and I'm disappointed that I won't be able to play them on this system. Excellent player except for the CD-R issue. Similar Products Used: none |

Strength:
Nifty DVD Player. Video is nice and crisp, audio (for DVDs) is VERY clean.
Weakness:
Cost (d*mn near $700 from Best Buy). As a CD player, I have mixed emotions. Track Memo would be nice, and the Disc Memo, while very nifty, a) isn't displayed automatically and b) can't be downloaded into the Remote Commander that came with my STR-DB930. Pain in the rump. Oh, well...as soon as Sony comes out with a 300-disc changer with Track Memo, I'll be picking it up (CX350 lacks this NECESSARY feature. CX270 seems to be the only jukebox that has it, but it's both EXTREMELY expensive and not enough storage for me). All in all, I'll hold on to it as far as DVD is concerned, but it's CD features are (for the money) severely lacking. Similar Products Used: DVP-550D |
