Nice product. Supports DTS. Sounds great. Handles 5 CD/DVD platters with changer. Various forward and reverse play speeds for DVD playback are a very nice plus. Does not play my home-made CD-Rs, though. |

Just bought the Sony DVP-C650D, 5-disc dvd/cd player on the friday of labor day weekend. I have played various dvds on it and no lip-sync errors so far. The sound is impressive and the picture quality is amazing. I have this player connected to my sony str-935 and the remote for the receiver handles the dvd player pretty well. except for one thing. i haven't figured out how to change discs with the remote commander that comes with the receiver. I have to pick up the dvd remote to change dvds, which is a little annoying considering i use the remote to controll the receiver, vcr, 50+1 cd changer, and the dvd player (somewhat). they are all sony products so they "mesh well". As for the dvd player not playing recorded cds, I don't know about that but will check up on it. I've been too busy watching movies to try out anything else :)... |

I just wanted to chime in to say that this unit WILL play CD-Rs, depite what the manual says. There is a catch (of course), but after some trial and error I have been able to play them with no problem. Certain brands of CD-R media will not work. Typically, if you can SEE THROUGH the media (i.e., it's slightly translucent), it won't work in this unit. Media that uses dark ink and is opaque work just fine. I've found the gold disks with green ink work well (though no one seems to make these anymore). I am currently using Verbatim disks (silver with dark blue ink, with generic white (printable) label side). By the way, I'm talking about computer CD-Rs, not that rip-off music CD-R junk. |

Decent player, with the exception of the CD-R issue. The manual states that CD-Rs can not be played. I've tried using a coaxial digital cable, but this advice from a DVP-C600D post was unsuccessful. Basically, I'm quite dissappointed. My nine year old Sony minisystem has no problems playing CD-Rs, nor do my various CD sources (ancient single disc players, portable CD players, Sony Playstation, Alpine mobile CD head unit, etc.). To be fair, the Playstation and car CD have had problems recently, but they worked previously. The C650D doesn't even play my straight burns either. If anyone knows how to play CD-Rs on this player, I'd love to know. |

Been using this player for a couple weeks now and am very pleased with it in every way. I have not attempted to try burned cd's yet but if it is unable to play burned cd's that is a shame....but regardless this is an excellent dvd player and would recommend it. |

Strength:
Excellent features presented in a logical manner. Rapid search times. Multi disc capability. Future flexibility.
Weakness:
Since this is my first DVD player, I've yet to find any real flaws or weaknesses, other than it doesn't fit very well in my entertainment center. Very satisfied with this Sony product as with all my others. Good value for the money. |

Strength:
Excellent picture, audio very clean, holds 5 discs
Weakness:
shuttle controller a bit awkward at first, couldn't play CD-R Initially, I was going to buy the DVP-S550, but with the difference in price being less than $100 dollars decided last minute why not. Very happy that I did go with the DVP-S650 carousel model, because the convenience is well worth the extra money. The audio and video is of high standard. My complaints about the unit center on its inability to play CD-R discs(green discs), and with my particular unit, on the widescreen version the letter boxing is not consistent. One side is a 1/4 inch lower than the other side. I don't know if this is a fault of the DVD player or of the television. Anyway, I am very happy with the player and would recommend it to anyone in the market for a multi-disc dvd player. The audio and video quality is amazing. Similar Products Used: DVP-S550 |

Strength:
Decodes everything, and can Veg to 5 movies without getting up, except to make another drink
Weakness:
Slow disk swap time. Cant download to the Remote comander of my new DB-930 My first DVD, learned alot about them before I bought this one. Compaired to my friends players this one has superior sound quality and picture quality. It could be my tv helping it out but the picture does seem sharper and crisper, not to mention the color spectrum is great, talk about black, it isn't just a dark shade of grey. Sound could also be my system, Sony DB-930 and Polk Audio RT 2000p, 500 FX. |

Strength:
Solidly built.
Weakness:
Would be nice if the remote would illuminate. Overall excellent unit. Paid $460 and feel well worth it compared to other models. No lip synch problems. |

Strength:
Great Features, Crisp picture and sound
Weakness:
Remote is useless in the dark This is my first venture into DVD's, and I have to say I am very satisfied. The firmware issues with the 530 scared me a bit so I decided to pay a bit more for the changer ability of this player. I have had no problems whatsoever. The setup was even manageable for a novice like me. |
