Strength:
When it worked, it was a great entry-level player. Not every control was used, but it provided a great picture.
Weakness:
I expect any electronic component to function for at least twice the warranty period, and handle consumer complaints in a defect situation just as tire manufacturers do. Obviously someone has made a decision somewhere to gloss over the production issues. This in my opinion is unwise for the long run. As stated earlier and often, the DVP-S360 is a product with a planned obselecence feature built right in! After 1 year and 8 months of average use (no abuse), the machine displayed the dreaded C:13 NO DISK error and refused to accept DVDs of any kind ever again. A call to the Sony National Service Center product manager (Bill Gray, 941-768-7513) prompted a response, but when he found out that this product was 8 months out of warranty, the willingness to help disappeared, despite the Sony name, reputation and just plain good business sense that should follow. He did offer to double to manufacturer's warranty on a new Sony, however, since I already got the replacement with an extended warranty, this would do me no good. He claimed that the numbers of people having a problem weren't great (despite the fact that there are over 500 reviews here in this one site alone), so I'd encourage EVERYONE to call Mr. Gray and let him handle the "limited" number of complaints you all might have for him...(wink) Similar Products Used: Toshiba DVDs... You may want to throw out the Sony reputation on their DVD line; their support outside the standard warranty doesn't represent reality. |

A dead machine has no strengths.
Weakness:
I think I must have used it about 20 times before the DVD player just went kaput. Great, I knew I'd end up here. My first S360 went on the fritz after a few months, giving me the telltale "no disk" error. I was able to swap it for another at Circuit City, but now THAT model is freezing, jumping tracks, etc. There are a million reviews here, and I can't seem to find the info on the said class-action suit that people are referring to. If anyone has this contact information, please email me at dogenx2@attbi.com. Two hundred bucks is just too much to toss away. I certainly hope Sony steps up to handle this travesty. Similar Products Used: Previous S360, which only taunted me with the "no disk" message, as I could hear it spinning incessantly. |

ARE YOU SERIOUS?
Weakness:
It doesn't even work ! What are we discussing? Another let down EX-Sony fan. same problems as the rest of you unfortunate souls, cept that C13 is rarer than the persistent and progressively worsening skipping/freezing problem. Mine started acting up just out of warranty period but we kept blaming the rented dvds... With occasional use, it has lasted us 18 months. All our other stuff is Sony too. Can't believe we were actually proud of the fact at one time. I can forget the fact that I made a costly mistake, but find it hard to forget that Sony is getting away with something like this. There are apprx 500 of us here. Let's all do something. How about newspapers and Fox T.V(consumer reports...) Hey they spend considerable amount of time telling you what parking lots are cheating you out of a buck or two. Surely the $200 we spent on this piece of junk merits some attention. Am getting in touch with the media. Pls keep posting your reviews. No.s are everything. Similar Products Used: first DVD player |

Strength:
None - planned obsolecene for just after waranttee runs out is the best strength
Weakness:
Can't run for more than a year before very expensive repair Same as all the rest. Sony of no help - gonna save the $185 they want to charge for repair to purchase a new DVD. Count me in on any class action suits. Will never buy a Sony product again. Similar Products Used: None - first DVD player - have bad taste for DVD players now - gonna be really careful when replacing it and you can garentee that it will not be a Sony. |

Strength:
Decent picture, user friendly controls, quiet motor, good selection of outputs.
Weakness:
Doesn't play most CD-R audio discs or VCDs, breaks a lot. I loved this player at first but unfortunately I too got the C 13 after only a few months of ownership. Fortunately I got Best Buy's service plan and they fixed it in under a week... ...then it broke again a few months later... ...and then it broke once more... Finally Best Buy acted upon the "No Lemon Policy" clause in the service contract and let me take home a brand new player which has given me no problems. It seems the problem has been corrected in the newer Sony player, which is good, but I think Sony should be the ones paying for replacement not Best Buy! Similar Products Used: Sony DVP-NS315/B |

Strength:
Great picture quality and sound (when it plays); the best industrial design (IMHO) for the remote and controls.
Weakness:
Cannot reliably read DVD's, which is kind of the point of owning it. Same problem as everyone else...after about 20 months of ownership, I get the dreaded 'C:13:00' error virtually all the time. Usually I can get it to read the disc eventually, but I am now shopping for a new player. I also lost a lot of faith in Sony over this product! |

Worked for 2 months
Weakness:
Broke after that with no hope of repair. Received a SONY DVD S363 as a Christmas Gift Started to recieve C13 error (no disk) Manual says to clean but that does not fix. My brother and law also started receiving the error on his. Sony would do nothing and said it was out of it's 90 day warranty. I received this as a gift that had been purchased over a month before I recieved it so the warranty was already void. My brother and law got his fixed at Tech one electonics in Bellevue by Phoeng Lee for $100 dollars and was told that the problem was that sony had used the wrong value of Shunt resistor on the circuit board. He replaced the resistor and the problem is solved. In light of this I asked sony to fix the player and even said that I would pay for shipping. They told me to "Prove it" Don't give these folks your buisness. Similar Products Used: Computer DVD players which never break. |
