It DIES on you...

This thing plain sucks. After a little over a year, it craps out on me. "No Disc" error. Wheeee... Needless to say, I didn't buy another Sony DVD player.

Strength:

Attractive unit, many features, performs flawlessly, offers a digital and coax out puts, plus dual video outputs.

Weakness:

Has a very bad reputation

I bought this just a little over one year ago. The player sees fairly heavy use as my wife and children use it during the week and we all watch movies on the weekend. So far it has never glitched, even with rented disks. Performance and features are great in my opinion. After reading the reviews here I purchased the extended warranty but so far have not needed to use it. All my equipment is Sony, and so far I have not had any problems with any of it. I even have the STR-545 receiver that everyone complains about the hissing with. Guess I have been lucky, as my receiver has never experienced this problem either.

None, this is my first DVD player.

Strength:

Convinced people to buy even it is expensive.

Weakness:

Sony should admit the bug and fix the problem at free of cost.

Initially it was good. Started getting C13 error. After 1 year , it is dead with "NO DISC". One of my friend had the same problem with DVP-S360. It is worthless paying $250 for 1 year of use. I lot trust on SONY PRODUCTS. It is a failure product.

Weakness:

Common problems smells of recall. (But SONY will never admit it!)

Holy cow! When I first bought the player for Xmas a year and 1/2 ago it crapped out after two weeks and was replaced by Best Buy. Little did I know this was a common defect or I would have opted for something else then! It lasted over a year and is now doing the darn No Disc thing... Always thought Sony was better than this!

Strength:

Great play for about a year. Please read other comments.

Weakness:

Will not play CD-Rs and the above

I was pleased with this product at first but now its worthless. After using the product for eight months I started having problems with the "no disk" error. It fix itself until May it died forever. The repair estimate came to $185 which I decided not to fix. In fact the repair center representative said this is rare for a Sony product yet I'm seeing on the Internet that it is not so rare. Many players of this model being sold on Ebay have the same problem. These people are give up $250 players for an average of $20. A class action lawsuit needs to be started ... but how?

Similar Products Used:

Sony (big screen-turns off when it gets tired, two vcrs, surround sound, 200 disk changer) but I wont buy anything else now due to poor customer service and quality.

Strength:

convincing us that their products are good

Weakness:

Instituting a product recall

IS THERE A CLASS ACTION SUIT ALREADY? COUNT ME IN! Used it for over 2 yrs., must have been having that C 13:00 error for over a year until last night when I got the "No Disc". Was looking for solution and got to this website, boy was I surprised. Like most of you all of our electronics are from SONY. Should have replaced their name to SORRY instead.

Strength:

Well, it worked pretty well for a while.

Weakness:

It failed way too soon!!!

The "No Disc" problem... I can't believe it! Like so many others, I thought it was the "crummy" rented discs, then with a Brand New copy of a Sony Classics! disc... same thing. Also, like so many others I'm an avid Sony customer - EVERY piece of audio and video equipment in my home is Sony.

it works for a short time and then never plays again =)

Just wanted to update my previous review. I wrote a letter to Sony on planetfeedback.com and received a letter in the mail with a customer service contact and number. They offered me the same half price repair deal. I told the rep that there obviously was some sort of defect (based on the number of similar incidents), but she said that the player was very reliable (are you kidding me). Anyway there is no way I am paying $80 to get a part repaired that will more than likely go bad in a few months. Maybe Sony's should advertise this player as subscription based. You pay $200 for the first year and $80 each year after. I too will not buy another product from Sony, unless they fix this situation.

Strength:

You will not fall behind in the technology race as you will need to replace it with a newer system within a few months.

Weakness:

Sony is backing the product

I purchased the DVP-S360 and a few days after the warranty ended the reoccurring C13 error became permanent and NO Disk error failure occurred. I called Sony and after many calls and discussions they agreed to pay half of the repair bill. The repair shop repaired the unit and when I got it back same problem. The repair tech said that this was a bug in this model but Sony did not admit to any excessive failures. It seems that they would have to have a failure rate nearing 50% for them to recognize that their product has a defect. Way to go Sony quality control. Sony offered to repair it at their Seattle depot at a cost that would exceed the DVP-S360’s purchase price and I pay for shipping both ways. Way to go SONY. I own 7 products manufactured by Sony. I can no longer recommend Sony’s products!
