Strength:

Remote control actually works. The rest is a paper weight.

Weakness:

C:13:00, freezing, skipping, flickering, audio drops, excessive internal heat cause of problem. Product doesn''t live up to Sony standard of Quality. I would rate it as -5 if it existed.

I am a not so content owner of the DVP-S360. This is the first time I ever visit such a forum and all because I was curious to see if other people have been experiencing similar symptoms with the DVP-S360 like myself. Ironically, this room is sweeped with unhappy people like myself and I knew there had to be more like me. I have had my dvd player for less than a year, and have only used it for roughly 21 hours of horrible playing time due to the fact that I''m never home. In addition, i also have another DVP-S360 which I found in the dumpster and which I took for studying purposes. The symptoms range from C:13:00, audio drops, freezing frames, flickering frames, and pausing when scenes are changed. I figured since I had an identical dvd player, that also had the same symptoms, i could use it as a guinea pig to find a fix for my player since I''ve never returned an electronic product. Being a computer technician, I''ve tried the DVD calibration for dvd-sl and dvd-dl and it''s just a 20 minute fix. After trying the online fixes of which none worked, I figured I''d try thinking of a fix myself. After hours of thinking and testing, I have come to the conclusion that all of the symptoms my DVP-S360 guinea pig is having is heat related. The tranformer the power supply board causes excessive heat in the case since it isn''t properly ventilated. In addition, with the exxcessive heat already built in the case, memory chips located on the underside of the spindle overheat causing images to freeze, lapse, and after even no use the c:13:00 b/c they are hot. When the case cover is off and the machine is cool, it actually runs decent. I don''t suggest that you open your case for warranty purposes. Funny thing is, when the C:13:00 code is present, if you open the tray and blow cool air inside, and put the disc, it will work for 2-3 minutes and then spit out the same code; also confirmed with my original player. As a remedy, I put case fans in the back of the guinea pig dvps360 and stuffed computer video card ram sinks on the memory chips. The guinea pig dvps360 works just fine now, but it wasn''t worth all the time and trouble I went through. I still have my original dvps360 that costed $200+ that can''t do crap and I don''t plan on fixing it. The issues are obviously a defect in design. Sony should do a recall and compensate everybody. c

Class Action now in the works. I am one of the plaintiffs. It is amazing that a company such as Sony would allow such a thing to happen. I own many Sony products, but will not buy another. I will post updates to the suit as I get them. Wish us luck!

Strength:

Makes you realize that there are better products out there.

Weakness:

Did not even last a year and I don''t even use it that much.

I am now in the shopping for a new dvd player and I know for sure it won''t be sony. I''m also an unfortunate owner of a DVP-S360. It''s not even a year old. I have a different problem with mine though. I turn it on and it only stays on for about one or two seconds. It won''t even stay on long enough for me to eject the dvd that was still inside.

Strength:

It was good while it lasted, but it''''s gone.

Weakness:

Obviously, the fact that it won''''t play an entire movie without shutting down.

Just wanted to add another to the long list of complaints. My experience is just like everyone elses. I came to audioreview to find a new DVD player (not a Sony) to replace the S360 and found that this problem is not mine alone. I have always been a faithful Sony customer, but not anymore.

doesn''t work...I think that qualifies

Same situation as everyone else.. I bought it about a year ago (with part of income tax return) at Best Buy... now getting the same C 1300 / No Disc error.. tried cleaning lens and CD''s... no improvement. I even thought it was heat related (a good direction since this unit really does get overly hot), but no help there. Drop me a note and let me know if this "class action" is still ongoing or did I miss it. Thanks John T. (Jack) Cavuoti, Sr. Houston, TX

Sony Customer support

Let me just start off by saying that I am a dedicated Sony man. I have the sony DVP-S360-DVD player, STR-DB930 reciever, SLV-N70 vcr, SA-VE315 -5.1 speaker package, RMA-V2100 -touch pannel remote and even an old CDP-291 -cd player that I had bought back in 1984(wich is still kickn'' with no problems). So I know Sonys'' quality. It''s because of that old cd player that I now have all Sony gear. I had bought the DVP-S360 dvd player from Hi-Fi Buys on June 4th 2000. I paid 249 for the player and had been excited about all the movies I had been playing. I don''t even watch regular TV because of the picture quality. I come home from work and put in a movie, I eat dinner and watch a movie and before i go to bed at night, you guessed it, I watch a movie. So, with that said, my dvd players will be put to the test. I started to notice the "no disk" and C13:00 errors in November of 2001 so my errors occured a little later than everyone else, wich is funny due to the amount of hours put on the player. At first, I too thought that the player just need to be cleaned, but I thought that was funny because I clean the lens after every 10 hours of play time. So my next hunch was that the player is getting hot, since I have it sitting on my receiver. That did not change anything. So I checked out audioreveiw.com and read that all these people were having the same problem and that Sony was not doing anything about it. If I have one complaint about Sony it''s there customer support. I realize that Sony is a large company and they are very busy but if that don''t care enough about there customers there customers will not care about them. Even after all that being said I still went out and bought a Sony DVP-NS700P dvd player to replace the old one. I bought this dvd player only after visiting audioreview.coms'' page and seeing what people had said about the player. Even though I bought another Sony product after the 360 model dvd player I realize that I am in the small percent of people who will buy the same brand after dealing with a problem such as this. I hope Sony will do something about this problem to regain the loyalty of there customers. Hopefuly happy, Michael

works...again..

stopped working after only 8 months. Bad support and a bad experience.

ME TOO! The "No Disk" of doom message happened to me just over a year ago. took it to Sony. "That''ll be $150 please" Hmmmm. Lots of time spent on the phone to Sony. Well - lots of time spent on the phone waiting for Sony. Lots of "clean the heads" and all the other stuff. Eventually managed to talk them down to $75. Took it back to Sony Man who fixed it at no cost. Still skips occasionally, but at least the thing was fixed. Now I''ve got the DIAG fix i''ll know how to calibrate it next time. My next DVD player will not be Sony and will be Region Free. (Why buy hardware that polices you? What next a region specific washing machine???)

Strength:

It fits in the cabinet.

Weakness:

If it would play discs consistantly, I might be able to find some.

Here is what I submitted to the Sony web page. "Could youplease explain why I constantly get this "no disc" and "C13:00" error on my DVD player? Or, why I cannot watch a complete movie without the system freezing, then either skipping part of the movie or jumping backwards one or more scenes." At first, I thought the problem was in the discs I was renting. I went back to the rental store to discuss the issue with the manager, the first question out of his mouth was, "Do you own a Sony?" What does this say? I would gladly join a class action suit against Sony for this piece of junk.

Haven''t noticed any.

Weakness:

Besides the fact that it cannot play a movie..... does it matter?

I bought this player from Best Buy a little over a year ago. On occasion, it would stop or suddenly skip to a different scene in the middle of a movie. I thought at first it was a dirty disc or a heat problem. But after a year, I have come to realize that it is just a bad product. I have never received the dreaded C:13 error, but this has all of the symptoms leading to that. Luckily, I had purchased a 4-year extended warranty for $50.00. Today, I brought the player back to Best Buy for service. The tech told me to browse the store for a while so they could play a movie and try to re-create the problem. I explained it might not happen, but that if it did, it would take at least an hour, so I went home. I called two hours later and they said that they did not notice any trouble. They recommended that I come pick it up, otherwise they would have to send it to Sony and if they don''t find a problem, then I will be charged $24.99 for shipping. I said that I want the player repaired and if they took the time to diagnose it properly, they will definitely find the problem. So now I wait with low expectations, based on all of these reviews. One thing for sure is that Best Buy and Sony are not going to get off easy.
