Strength:

Great price for full-featured DVD player! Nice remote. Sony build quality.

Weakness:

Does not play CDr's or CD-RW's.

Bought this unit at Best Buy where they matched a price of $199 at Circuit City. Then used a preferred customer 10% of coupon to bring the price down to $179 (+ tax) and then knocked another $50 with Sony mail-in rebate. Best Buy in Phoenix (and elsewhere in the US, I would guess)currently has the unit advertised at the $199 price with the $50 rebate. A great price for a unit that does everything but playback my CDr's (too bad), but my SOny 5-disc CD player will do the job. Aside from that, this DVD player is a great buy for the price. No need to pay more unless you want to step up to progressive scan and only then if you have a HDTV.

Strength:

Very Good Video and Audio quality.

Weakness:

Does not play CD-R. However plays CD-RW.

I hated this DVD player untill now ! Why? read the review ..

I bought this DVD player in May, 2000, from that time I have wantched many movies and no problem at all. This is really a good DVD Player which can also play VCD.

I did not wanted to buy the DVD player which had decoder as I was also buying home theater system which had the decoder. So if you are buying or planning to buy home theater system go for this DVD player. No need to spend money on players which come with built in dolby digital and DTS decoder. However if you already have 5.1 input older hole theater system do not buy this DVD player, get one which has decoder.

Both Audio and Video quality is very good. Recently my friend bought a JVC DVD Player from Cotsco and I realized how great Sony DVD player is. We played the same VCD in both DVD player and Sony was much better. JVC DVD player skipped 1 seconds at every 20 or 30 seconds.

Ok so now the answer to the question, "Why I hated this DVD Player?" I realized after two months that I can not play music CD and VCD's recorded on CD-R. This mean that no more copying of CD from friends and from napster. Also I get a lot of VCD's from asia and since most of them are recorded on CD-R, they won't play.

However recently I got CD-RW from Fry's and burned both Audio CD and VCD. They played fine on this DVD player. Check out http://www.vcdhelp.com/popup.php?DVDname=Sony%20DVP-S360
Some people talk about using special CD-R or CD-RW. NOTHING MATTERS. Get the cheapest CD-RW and it will work fine. Also there is no need to close the CD-RW and so you can erase it later.

Hope this will help you making the correct decision. I have given value rating of this product at 4 because I really wish that it could play CD-R.

Strength:

Slim,look's good, nice menu system.

Weakness:

Loud, severe technical difficulties after a few months of regular use. First time of use it heated up.

I liked it at first but then it just stoped working. I took it apart and seperated two touching circuit boards, then it worked fine, but only for awhile. Now i get the famous (c 13 00) error. I,m not sure what it means but i figure it,s not good. I advise people not to buy this model, you'll be better off with a another model.

First off let me say that the reason I received mine so cheap is that I found out that Sears will match any competitor's price including all E-business!! So naturally, I went and found the cheapest price I could for this unit.(Went throught Yahoo where it will search several thousand stores and pull up prices for each) This is the most research I have ever done before buying a piece of equipment. Every major store now carries some sort of a player in the $300 or less range. The major differences are of course the brands, but also the features built within. This is without a doubt, the best player avaliable to those who do not want to cough up alot of money for one. Excellent picture with excellent audio make this player the best choice for under $300. Also, I don't see the need for a five disc changer so my field of choices was narrowed by that much more. People might complain about the cd player aspect of it, but considering the fact that you will only spend about $250 for it, does it make sense that we should expect a KRELL like performance? If you have a decent cd player, why would you want to use the DVD anyway? Overall, excellent picture, remote, sound and slim profile make this player an excellent choice to anyone who is looking for a great DVD player.

Strength:

Very nice remote, easy to use, good on screen menus

Weakness:

C13 00 code, skips, doesn't recognize dvds. NOT RELIABLE

I assume that I am with majority of fellow users of Sony S360. To make it short: I receive C 13 00 code every other time, EVERY single DVD skips at the end of a movie.

I am not even going to try to contact Sony since we all know what will happen ($138 to fix it).

Never ever will I buy anything that is made by Sony. Lost my faith.

Strength:

Quick to load and play, compatible with all 128 DVDs in my collection plus all rentals.

Weakness:

Reliability (see review summary below). Noisy. Somewhat soft picture. Power switch turns the unit completely off (unable to turn on with remote).

Like many reviews of late, this is a tale of woe. I was very happy with this unit for 11 months--then it quit playing any and all disks. I got the error 13 mentioned elsewhere, and now nothing. Sony wants $138 for repair and it's available for 180 brand new. I would avoid this player, as it's obiously not reliable in the long run.

Weakness:

Doesn't play most cd/rs.. nor does it play mp3s.. When first turned on takes two pushes of thee eject button for it to open.

Well worth the money, nice features for thee price, and I would buy it again or thee Aiwa that plays cd/rs and mp3s!

Weakness:

Doesn't play CD-R's

I switched over from a PC-DVD solution to this aftere getting sick of dealing with the the PC software. The picture on this player is decent running through the Composite Video connection on my TV card. It is a little soft, but still light years better than VHS. Still, the picture isn't as good as the Line-Doubled PC hardware solution, but it should be good run through a television.

Setup is very easy, with all connection options available, including 2-Svideos, 2 Compsoites, 2 Analog outs, a coax and optical digital out.

Strength:

Good video, good sound... Tons of outputs and a great price.

Weakness:

It overheated once but that was my bad ;)

I use this DVD player to feed my 36" WEGA with highquality video. I think for $189 this is doing a fine job. I use the Bettercables.com Ultra Component cables to connect to my TV, and the image quality is fantastic. I connect the sound to my reciever thru optical digital, and my reciever does the Dolby/DTS decoding, so I don't need it on my DVD player.

DVD playback works fine. Good sound, good video, that is all I ask of a DVD player. I am pleased. :)

My System so far:
TV: Sony WEGA KV36FV16
Receiver: Yamaha HTR-5240
DVD: Sony DVP-S360
Mains: Boston Acoustics CR8s
Subwoofer: Boston Acoustics PV600
Cables: Monster Speaker Cables, Bettercables Ultra Component Video

Strength:

Sleek and stylish (matches my Sony ES receiver well), good picture and sound, good remote

Weakness:

durability (or lack of)

It was all good when I first brought it home. With the exception of not playing cd-r's it worked just fine. About 5 months after I brought it home it started locking up on me. It would skip chapters and sometimes just stop playback altogether. Soon after that came the C 13:00 error messages and then finally the dreaded "NO DISC" error. I thought it was because of overheating but only one month after getting it back from the repair shop and repositioning it, it is now starting to do the same thing. My best friend has the exact same player and has yet to have any problems but I've had mine for about 2 months longer than he has so maybe he's in for it too.

I thought I was alone but after reading the flood of comments all saying they have the same problem I guess I'm not. I'm taking mine back to Best Buy where I purchased the extended warranty (for once it actually came in handy) and asking to exchange it for a different model because the S360 is most definitely a lemon. If I had never had these reliability issues it would have definitely scored 4 stars in both catagories.
