Not worth the money!!!

Lemon from the beginning!! We specifically bought this product because of its ability to integrate with our other Sony products. We started having problems with it within two months. We purchased several disc cleaners and kept taking rented disc's back telling them they were scratched and would not play. Eventually we discoverd it wasn't the disc but the player. We have had the same problems as everyone else. It reads Error and No Disc for DVD's but plays CD's just fine. We would NOT recommend that you waste your money on this product |

errrrrrrr, absolutly nothing good with a product that wont work.
Weakness:
just a Piece of crap...like all there products Never buy sony!!! I could not figure for the life of me why my DVD's would skip all the time. Tried all sorts of home fixes, dvd cleaners, etc... Then I read some reviews about this dvd player and what do you know, it wasn't just me. I barrowed a buddies DVD player and all the discs worked flawlessly. There is a fix for it that you can do at home if you are somwhat motivated to try and salvage it. I have had soooo many problems with other sony products, its beyound me how the are not in trouble for just piecmealing stuff together and calling it a DVD player, an minidisc player or whatever. decent picture, slim profile, easy to operate
Weakness:
flawed board design, and although I never contacted Sony personally since my unit was out of warranty, it appears from what I've read, that they aren't willing to admit to or correct this known flaw. In general, the unit operated admirably in the first year. A nice picture, quick up to speed on the controls, and it fit in the low profile slot I had available to accommodate the unit. As per others, after approximately 1 year I fell victim to the infamous and periodic C13 "dirty disc" error. After 2 years, the unit failed completely with a "no disc" message despite trying a variety of clean DVDs and CDs. My unit was toast after 2 years of what I consider light use. Fortunately I found a fix posted on the web and performed triage on the blown fuse responsible for my woes. My unit is now working again but no guarantees as to for how long. Very disappointing, I have amps that are still working flawlessly after 15 years. I will avoid all Sony products in the future unless quality is demonstrably improved. |

Doesn't play DVD'S! What a terrible DVD player! I'm experiencing the same C-13 error blue screen. I thought it might be dirty/scratched rentals. My new DVD's started not working as time went on. What a joke. I was a little confused on what to do from here since this machine is useless. If someone could assist with more info, that would be great: toddeggert@yahoo.com. Thanks! c-13 This DVD Player is JUNK. It worked for less then a year and then a code came on the screen c-13. I called Sony and they did not give me any help. They told me it was dirty. I have had it cleaned and I still have the same c-13. |

crappy quality! no support from sony Add me to the list people! The dreaded 1300 no disk error. It worked for almost 2 years and then started crapping out. I intend on buying another dvd (NOT SONY!) and eventually trying the fuse trick. Good-bye sony! Similar Products Used: none |

Looks great (when working) Component video output Nice functional remote Makes DVD watching an exciting, edge-of-your-seat adventure -- When will it skip? How far back? What happened? Did I see this already? Fans of the movie "Memento" (like me) now can watch ANY movie in mysterious, backwards time progression! Different every time! What fun!
Weakness:
Short product life for what I consider at least mid-level expense ($250+) Poor customer service response Like the majority of posters here, I am experiencing the annoying "skip back" problem. At first I blamed scratched or dirty rentals, then I began to experience the problem seemingly at random even with brand new DVDs. I have also seen the dreaded C 13 "dirty disk" error message, but only a few times so far; the machine still recognizes & mounts DVDs more often than not, BUT the freezing & skipping problem is happening more often, always partway through the movie. I am sorry the rest of you are also experiencing this problem, but it is SOMEWHAT of a relief to have it confirmed. (I bought the unit as an "open box" and until now I had been kicking myself, thingking that I got a damaged unit in my quest to save a few dollars... obviously this is not the entire reason for the problem!) In short, I've had the unit for 2 years of relatively light use (less than 6 hours a week) and had the first problem at probably month 17 or 18. Perhaps the relatively light use explains why it made it to month 17 instead of 13! This upsets me as I made a point to purchase a SONY for the perceived quality (and past good experience with Sony audio). I chose it over a nice Toshiba with a few more features ("zoom" seeming the most attractive), thinking that the "quality" of the Sony unit would be a better purchase in the long run. Now I regret that decision, and I wish I had at least bought the extended warranty at Circuit City which includes a "No Lemon" guarantee. Based on all of your reviews, I'd say this unit qualifies as a LEMON, big time. Like many of you, I have called the Sony customer service and have been advised to get the unit professionally cleaned for starters; received no confirmation of similar problems experienced by (probably thousands of) other unhappy campers. P.S. I note that back in January someone posted 3 duplicate "5-star" rave reviews in a row. Seem like an attempt to bring the abysmally low rating up? Conspiracy theorists, anyone? Poor design, poor quality control. A Sony product is suppose to last for years. Where is the infamous Sony quality. Had the S560 little over a year. Same problem as everybody else. "No disc" or "C 13" when you load the DVD. When it does play it freezes in the middle of the movie. Similar Products Used: Also had a Sony Combination phone and answering machine. Just like the DVD player the answering machine would drop some of the incoming messages. Had the extended warranty with Best Buy and bought the |
