Strength:

Great when it works.

Weakness:

As stated above.

As everyone else, after 13 months, I got the "no disc" error. Does anyone have a link to the web page to join the law suit? How hard is it to replace the fuse and where can I get one??

Strength:

None!

Weakness:

Inferior product for the money!

The Sony DVP-S560D player is junk and there is no other word to describe it. It will last one year! Sony will not back-up there products anymore. You would have to be a fool to buy their products.

Strength:

Picture and sound quality.

Weakness:

Remote isn't very responsive and it doesn't play cdr's.

I've had this model for over 2yrs and it has work very well for me. The picture is excellent and the sound is good as well. I have this dvd player mated with the STR DE 985 sony reciever along with JBL Northridge speakers and a Cerwin Vega V12 sub.

Strength:

when working, is a nice unit. Onboard 5.1 decoder

Weakness:

poorly designed signal processing circuit which causes surface mount fuse to blow

I've had the same "no disc" problem with my s560d. The s560d and s360 (among other sony models) both have the same fuse problem. Replacing the F402 fuse works but to do it right you need to replace a couple of SMD type resistors to change the current through this circuit or you will continue blowing the fuse (or damage other parts as I have seen with at least one unit). Also, if you just replace the fuse, you may continue to experience erratic playback from your DVD player. As a hobby, I fix these for 15 bucks +shipping. My www.ebay.com identity is jeakabro, contact me through that forum if interested. Good luck with the class action lawsuit!

Strength:

Difficult to answer since it was my first DVD player.

Weakness:

Reliability, buttons had to be pushed twice sometimes.

I also get the C 13 00 error on many discs. I also bought two discs new that would not play on this machine at all "NO DISK". I am not a huge movie fan and hardly ever used it. I probably only watched about 25 movies on it in two years.

Weakness:

Complicated menu set. Didn't like to use Dolby Digital at all. Slow menu load times and .. oh yeah, it dies after 15 months.

This DVD player is crap. Two years ago I blindly switched over to Sony products under the false belief that they bring a higher quality with their logo. Nonsense. This DVD player exhibited a C:13 error when trying to play perfectly good DVD's. Apparently, this is a very common issue and Sony has done nothing rectify the problem. So if you're looking for a really expensive doorstop, this is your best choice. Personally I recommend the little rubber triangular ones.

Wait...let me think...hmmmm.....

Weakness:

The whole thing

Add me to the growing list of people who have experienced the C13:00 error and No Disk Error. This has been going on for about a month. We are also about ready to throw the thing out the window. Add me to the list of people who will NEVER buy another Sony product.

Strength:

Great picture when it works. Great paper weight when it doesn't.

Weakness:

Lack of customer service or support from Sony.

I bought my Sony DVP-S560D back in the summer of 2000. After about 6 months, the player would freeze up or skip chapters while watching a movie. At first I thought it was a dirty disk. As time went by, the player got worse. I noticed the player would get extremely hot after only an hour of use. If I let it cool down a while, I could start watching movies again. Then this weekend, I started getting the C:13:00 error. I took the disk out, cleaned it, put it back in and got "No Disk". I tried 3 other dvd's, still got "No Disk". The player simply died on me. It wouldn't play a thing. I searched online for any known problems with this dvd player and found virtually everyone that owns this dvd player is having the same problem and Sony isn't stepping up to the plate to do anything about it. Luckily, I found audioreview.com, and read through the hundreds of posts on here. I read about the Ben Morris "Fuse Fix"...replacing or bypassing the F402 fuse on the MB-86 board and wanted to try that, since Sony was going to charge me $175.00 to fix it. Unfortunately, the link to Ben's site didn't work. I searched for his url on register.com, found his email address and asked him for help. He gave me the new url http://www.benmorris.net/dvd/ which has step by step how to fix the problem yourself. Turns out, I didn't have to try the fuse fix. I took my dvd player to a local electronics shop that does free diagnostics. I told them what I read online and that fuse F402 is the problem and will need to be replaced or bypassed. They did the diag and said "You're right...fuse F402 is blown." They told me they would charge me $35 for parts and labor. Since they had the player already, and they would guarantee their work, I said go for it. They replaced the fuse and the player works great now. So, if you don't want to take the chance and fix it yourself, try your local electronics shop and tell them about fuse F402. For $35 bucks, I revived my dvd player.
