Strength:

Sony name

Weakness:

No zoom

As I have stated in my other reviews, I guess I am just a lucky guy, because I have nothing to complain about. I have had this Sony 560D for at least 17-18 months, and haven't had an ounce of problems, except for a rented disc that was so scratched, my machine refused to play it period. Other then that, I would recomend it to anyone. I am a Sony fan. If and when it kicks the bucket, I will then join the list.

Strength:

Reliability (wierd, eh?)

Weakness:

Remote Control is ugly. Virtual Surround Sound is very "hall-like".

I bought this new at the top of the line prices. I have had absolutely no problems with it whatsoever. Every movie CD plays, just fine. I have read all of the reviews on this product and am now crossing my fingers hoping it doesn't go bad, but up to this point, it's been great!

Strength:

Price was good, on board dd decoder, picture is fine.

Weakness:

Noisy, slow. Seems buttons need to be pushed twice to get the player to respond.

Many thanks from another victim of this player. Started going bad a couple months ago, and last died last week. Shorting across the fuse worked like a charm though. Many thanks for the perfect description.

Like many others, I got the error "No Disc". What happens is I am scanning the scene I don't want, the player frozen. Then I have to reload the disc and I get No Disc error. No matter how hard I try, it won't work. I'm a fan of Sony products ( receiver and tv), but Sony DVD has died on me. I think this is my last Sony brand...

Strength:

Good player when it actually read a disc with no errors!

Weakness:

There is not enough space here to describe the frustrations that come with owning this player.

After having this piece of junk for almost two years, it gave out a couple of months ago with the infamous errors so many others have had. I have tried the fuse fix, operating it with the case off, and even shorting the other fuse out (next to the 402). I have called Sony, e-mailed them on numerous occasions, even e-mailed the "class-action" lawsuit firm. Nothing. Sony says it can be fixed for $179; you'd have to be on crack to pay that amount, considering you can buy a better player for less than that. Personally, I have my eye on a Toshiba beauty that retails for $129 almost everywhere. Good player when it worked...

Strength:

Pretty good price (I thought!) and integrated well with the sony amp and sony vcr.

Weakness:

self destructs 3 months after warranty expires

I bought the DVD, AMP and speakers in a package at PC Richards 15 months ago - thought it was a pretty good deal - the Sony name persuaded me. But now I'm getting similar problems to other reviewers. Freezing after watching for 45 mins, the DVD disk is very warm when you take it out and sometimes it won't recognize perfectly good DVDs that work 100% on the computer's DVD player. What I'm annoyed with is that it happened after the 12 month warranty period, and also that something I was sure about - Sony's reputation for quality - was me living a pipedream. I will now have to try and fix the DVD (probably by taking the case off to let it breathe and avoid overheating) and/or buy another one - NOT SONY!

Strength:

Nice picture and sound.

Weakness:

It went belly up after 13 months when I still have an old GE model that is still going after 3yrs.

After about 13 months this my Sony DVP-S560D started giving me problems with all of my DVD's. Error messages like c 13 and no disc pledged me. Befor it died, it was a great addition to my home theater.

Strength:

Fills up empty space in my entertainment center.

Weakness:

Everything.

C13:00 & No Disc errors galore after 12 months of use. This product is a piece of junk... It would make a much better door stop than actual dvd player. And the audacity of Sony's marketing division to actually call this hunk of crap a DVD player!!! Once an avid Sony supporter - never again!

Strength:

Packed full of features. Under 100 price.

Weakness:

Silver color and exceptionally cheap looking exterior.

Okay as predicted by the posts here, this thing died on me a couple of days ago just short of its two years anniversary. I think a combination of dirty disc and heat aggravated its fuse problem and killed it. So for those who still have it in working condition, You might wanna drill some holes in the unit to allow for more air flow or keep it raised so that air can flow under it. I followed ben morris's instructions on his home page and was able to take apart my sony player but the moment i looked at the dense circuitary on the MD-86 board and the size of the two fuses, i knew it was well beyond a novice which is what i am. If anybody in edison new jersey area can replace the fuse or short it for me for a reasonable price, please drop me an email. So guys - and this is the real reason for posting this - i went ahead and after much research found the perfect balance of price and performance. The magnavox MDV450SL. 95 dollars at best buy. Cheaper still at BJs. This cheap looking (but great performing) unit plays every damn thing you can throw at it. CD-R, CD-RW, MP3, VCD, SVCD (tested at 2520 bitrate at CQ) and even JPG,MPG files stored in a data disc. It lets you browse folders like in windows. It even played damaged SVCD discs (with pixalation ofcourse) without getting stuck anywhere. Forward and reverse at 2x to 8x. Slow mo at 1/2x to 1/8x. Zoom from 25% to 200%. It can even read PAL format and output signal suited for PAL/NTSC or MULTISYSTEM TV sets. Using preview mode, automatically breaks a SVCD into Tracks and you can pick what track to play. A great alternative to chapters. No DTS or 5.1 decoding though. Supports component /coaxial/optical and the regular RCA style outputs.
