Also another 'NO DISK' error subject. But i read a review that was posted here, and fixed the DVD player, (took it apart and soldered it). It now plays movies great, but sometimes an C13 something error shows up. Does anyone know how to make this DVD player read/play CD-R's or CD-RW's. In a review that was posted here or somewhere, i read that it reads media written on "SILVER* COLOR CD-R's or CD-RW's". Did anyone have any luck or try the silver* cds on this dvd players. *The silver color should be on the place where the computer burns the data on the cd. |

Recognized name -- Used to be good products
Weakness:
This unit is a lemon -- should be a recall. Ditto. I purchased the product in 2000. After about six or eight months it begain skipping. "No Disk" message after about nine months. Sony/Sears repaired under warranty. Now,(after about another eight months)same problem. I contacted Sony. They will not stand up behind their product. Prior experience with Sony on another product was poor -- they quoted me a "fixed" price for a repair of a remote control, i.e. they would repair or replace for a fixed fee of $55. I sent in, they sent back, could not fix. Price for a replacement remote = $195.00+shipping. That receiver is now collecting dust in a storage area. Why fix? If remote goes, unit is virtually worthless. Same story with this DVD, why fix? Pay and have it go bad after a half of a year? I replaced with another brand. I have owned dozens of Sony products in the past and was very pleased with them until last few years. Nowunhappy with Sony -- Buy another brand. Excellent machine when it was working. Now used for slap shot strengthing.
Weakness:
Self destruct clause after 18 months of use The same problem with dredded "no disk" I tried to fix it with the new fuse thing but I'm a soldering idiot. If your new at soldering or not that good at it find a freind who is and have them help you. Thanks Ben Morris for the info. I couldn't do it but it wasn't that hard all thing considering. Excellent player during the 2 years it worked. The inside of player was of a quality build, with the obvious design flaw.
Weakness:
Design flaw which limits most players to less than a 2 year life span. Totally unacceptable in todays electronic world. Owned the DVD player for 2 years and then it failed. Same as most others, "insert disc" problem. Too bad I tossed it before I found out that there was a do it yourself fix. Sony was of no help in solving the problem. They have to know there is a problem with these players. I will write Sony and complain for what good it will do. Similar Products Used: Panasonic RP56 |

Good picture and sound when working properly. Versatile remote.
Weakness:
Same problems everyone else has mentioned. I first reviewed this product on Nov. 3 2001. I have now used this player for 2 years. I had the same "no disc" problem about a year ago, but had the laser pickup replaced and now it is working better than ever. I had another problem that no one else has mentioned. The player did not display yellow or blue color properly. I decided to give the unit a solid thwack with the palm of my hand and that has fixed the second problem. I feel lucky that I can continue to use and enjoy this problematic player. Similar Products Used: Sony CD player |

THE PRODUCT DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! I am one of many who have numerous problems with this product. Sony will not stand behind their products. I am in the process of upgrading my home theatre system and guess what? Sony will NOT be part of that. In fact, I will never buy another Sony product, EVER! Additionally, I will make sure that all my friends are aware of Sony's tremendous customer service and their 'standing behind their products'. A huge dissapointment, even as a gift. |

Works great until it decides the warranty is up..

Too short for a door stop... Ok, add me to the list as well of people who have been bitten by this product. I purchased a DVP-S560D a little over a year ago (April 01). It was skipping and the like for a couple of months and I took it into a local electronics store for some help. The store has looked at the fixes that have been posted (fuse fixes) and they all appear to be working. The store owner thinks it is a different problem all together which could crop up even if you have fixed the fuse problem. |

works terrific as a foot warmer We received the Sony DVP-S560D as a Christmas gift from our kids in December 2000. It worked beautifully for about 6 months and then on occasion began freezing up and pixelating then jumping to other scenes. We also got the C 1300 code but not all the time. We thought it was dirty discs and after cleaning them and letting the machine cool down (overly hot, I thought) it seemed to be okay. Not so anymore. This $200-$300 piece of crap almost got taken out with a $20 hammer. In the last month or so it has gotten so bad we had to watch a movie over three nights. I suppose we should feel blessed as the machine didn't die completely as so many of you have reported. We were ready to go out and buy a new player (NOT SONY) until I ran across these postings and saw what several of you have done with the fuse to remedy the situation. I believe I'll try that before I throw this thing in the trash. Regardless of whether the fix works or not, Sony will be getting a letter from me. Not that they will care, by the sounds of things, but I want them to know that I will NEVER own another Sony product again. Because of poor customer service and lack of concern for the consumers who keep them in business, they no longer deserve my money or yours. If they have a defective machine, then fine, it happens. But there is absolutely no excuse for poor customer service and lack of caring. Sorry, Sony. I guess I won't be buying that WEGA big screen I was looking at. Short life span; too much skipping when playing DVD's; No Disk Error. I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone. Too short of a lifespan for the money spent. The player skipped alot while playing disks. Now we have the notorious No Disk Error. Not knowing about the fuse fix, we have already replaced the unit (with a Toshiba) since it was going to cost more to fix the Sony than buy a new player. I am very disappointed with Sony and sad to hear they are not acknowledging how widespread the problem is. I won't be purchasing another Sony until they start providing better backing of their products. Similar Products Used: The replacement - a Toshiba SD-2800 DVD player - is working great, was a lot cheaper ($130) and meets our needs for now. |
