Strength:

Great picture quality

Weakness:

Short life span

I've had the same problem - C 13:00 errors on all DVDs now after a few years use. It will plays CDs fine, but no longer is a DVD player. Very Disappointed - the quality was incredible when it did work.

Strength:

very slim, great remote.

Weakness:

not realiable after 3 years

I bought it 3 years ago and was quite satisfied with it until I started playing DVD-R and eventually getting the 'NO DISC' ERROR. I'm quite surprise with this issue especially that it is a Sony product. I got rid of it today and bough myself a PANASONIC F-65 proscan that plays 5 DVD-+R and CD-+R for $229 CAN @ Radio Shack.

Doesn't break into many pieces when thrown out the window

Piece of crappolla. Worked fine, then all of a sudden I get C:13:00 or "No Disc" errors.

Strength:

Very detailed menu of preferences as well as full control from given remote.

Weakness:

C 13:00 error on clean disks.

I find this DVD player is rather reliable other than the fact that I get C 13:00 errors on disks that have read fine in the past.

Strength:

Aesthetic appearance of player...'don't judge a book by its cover...'

Weakness:

no disc error on basically EVERY DVD...

Sony S560D player died on me after abut one year of light use! I began to apparently have 'heat' issues...choppy frames after running on longer movies (movies over 2+ hours...) and the eventual 'no disc' error...I'm sad becuase usaully Sony has been good product for me (T.V. at least...) but I was easy on this player and it really did get light useage so am not purchasing Sony again for DVD...

Strength:

good clear picture

Weakness:

No disc error on most dvd movies

I am VERY dissappointed in this Sony DVD player. I bought this player because I THOUGHT Sony was a good name, but I am having the same "no Disc error" that everyone else seems to be having and Sony customer service seems to be failing miserably.

Sonys lack of support for a aparent problem

Bought from Sears in april 2000. I am having problems now 7-12-03 with no disc message. I have always had problems with this player but was able to work through them by restarting or pausing. I never knew there were serious problems with this player till this review. Im buying a Denon to go along with my Bose surround system. To bad a have a Sony 61 inch tv. Hope Sony doesnt have that problem to.

Weakness:

Too big for a doorstop, to light for an anchor.

Another victim of the blown fuse after 30 months of use! I was about to junk it since I couldn't see paying more to have it fixed than buying a new (cheap)one. I was happy to find the fix here which is why I am writing. Bypassing the fuse worked for me but it is not easy to solder in such a small area and I have experience. I had to strip a small wire tin it and bend it at a right angle to solder across the contacts after crushing the fuse with small needle nose pliers. At first tried bridging the contacts with solder alone but almost fried the other fuse. Thanks for the info here. No thanks to Sony. I think they should at least give the victims a discount towards a replacement.

Strength:

Nice picture/ sound when it works

Weakness:

Fails after about 2 years of light use

I bought 3 of these players for 3 different setups and had one fail 8 months after buying them. That unit was repaired under warranty, but now the other 2 are beginning to fail. I get the infamous C:13 error on one, and the other just shows excessive pixelation and has sound dropouts. The optical drive unit appears to be defective in all of these players, yet SONY customer service insists there have been NO reported problems with these players. I have estimates of $130 and $278, respectively, to repair the 2 players that are malfunctioning now. I opened the case of the player that was repaired 2 years ago by SONY authorized service, and the drive unit appears to be completely different from the original, which tells me they knew of the defect and repaired them under warranty with a better than OEM part. This unit should have been recalled.
