Strength:
Excellent DVD with many resources.
Weakness:
It fails after 1,5 Year and don't play MP3 Congradullation for SONY!! After 1 year and 8 months, it had the same problem as most of everybody have, bad optical system. As the warranty was expired, I called brazilian's Sony service support and asked if this DVD had any recall and sent them this web site. They decided to exchange the optical system with no cost. I paid only labor hours ( ~US$20.00). |

Strength:
5.1-channel analog audio outputs; quality picture - any mode I've used this SONY DVP-S560D for about 2 years - never ever any problem at all. I use it everyday for good 4-5 hours. It reads well old and scratched DVDs. |

I found a fix online for the C 13 00 errors that I was getting. Put the player in standby mode and, using the remote, press Title then Clear then Power. A Test Mode Menu will appear. I picked the Drive Auto Adjust item from here and followed the prompts. My player now works like a charm! It used to sound lost when skipping chapters and it used to freeze up past the upper chapters. |

Strength:
None whatsoever.
Weakness:
Poor quality, faulty circuitry, poor design, skips chapters, does not recognize discs, will NOT play any DVD that has the SLIGHTEST imperfection (even a cat hair), noisy optics, pixelation, dropouts, slow, takes forever to read disc, cannot recognize anything but DVD, choppy audio. This DVD player is a piece of junk. At first I was taken in by the Decoder, features and the slim design. One day after the warranty expired, I got the "C 13:00" errors and the unit refused to play ANY DVDs. I thought perhaps it was in need of cleaning so I went out and bought one of those laser lens cleaners. No effect. I took it down the street to a TV repair shop and got it repaired for around $40. The repair guy claimed told me he fixed "faulty control board / F402 fuse blown out and bad solder contacts all over the board". After that, it worked great for 2 months...then it started skipping chapters, giving me the C 13:00 errors more frequently, pixelation, dropouts, choppy audio, no audio, and the inability to recognize VCDs. 9/10 DVDs would play halfway through then freeze completely and I would have to cycle power to get it working again. I called the TV repair guy again - his advice was to not waste any more money on it and buy a non-Sony product. My player was NOT overheating as it was on a standalone shelf with ample ventalation. All my DVDs are super clean and stored/handled properly. Similar Products Used: I finally went and bought a Toshiba 2900 - this is far superior to the Sony garbage, even without the decoder (which was useless - I got better sound from just the L/R audio connectors). |

Strength:
Asthetics, Features.
Weakness:
Short period of operation. Fails far too quickly for the always TOO HIGH PRICE that Sony consistantly charges! This DVD player worked great at first but like the 5 other cd/dvd players from Sony that I've owned, it stopped working just after the 1 yr warrenty expired. STAY AWAY FROM SONY CD/DVD players! Thier optics and Servos are CHEAP and VERY POORLY DESIGNED! They will NOT be able to READ YOUR CD/DVD in a very short period of time! Buyer Beware! Similar Products Used: Sony Reciever, Playstation, Playstation2, Portable cd player, 250 disc player, Sony Directv Dish, 3 Sony car stereos, and a Sony VCR. |

Strength:
Um, it worked for a few months.
Weakness:
See above, and a few hundred other reviews below. I used this unit for about 6 months before getting the "no disc" and "c 13" errors. It will not recognize ANY dvds and frequently skips or simply stops while playing a cd. Thanks to a recent post from a reviewer at this site,I found the site of a law office handling a class action suit against Sony. I encourage everyone who has had this problem to join in!
