Weakness:
Doesn't work past 25 hours of use. Absolutely the worst thing I've owned. No more Sony products for me. This player is the worst on the market and fails so much I'm not even going to fix it. Just replace it with something else NOT from SONY |

Good looking Front panel, but that is about it.
Weakness:
Everything, skips, flutters, C13:00 errors, no read errors, won't play anyhting but new disks. Same problem as everyone has had. No Disk, C13:00 errors. I have gone one step further than everyone else. Please visit my site www.sonyproductssuck.com. Help me spread the word and together, we'll all cost Sony Hundreds of thousands of dollars. Similar Products Used: Panasonic RP62 - The Panasonic RP62 is a beautiful unit and works great. I own several other Sony products which still work at this writing, but will never buy Sony again after this. |

All This just may be the worst dvd player ever. I think sony has a rep of making at least one real dog of a player each year and unfortunately It's the one I have. I think I've experienced every known problem there is with my particular unit. However, I also think It's all sony's fault, not the retailer. Do the math people. If these problems show up after one year of use, and the unit is only made/sold for 10 months before the new one comes out, how would the retailers know not to sell? They can't predict what problems a unit will have six months after they don't even sell the same model anymore. I have been extremely please with the service at the store that I purchased this from (Tweeter) as well as Cambridge Sound (where I buy all my audio) and think it's unfair to blame them for something that's out of their control. However, sony should issue some huge rebate on a new player for those who bought this one. But of course they won't, because they're sony. They're HUGE. Every negative comment about this unit is true. It is absolutely the worst on the market. After the 1-year warranty expires it will not function, therefore it is worth nothing and is a constant source of stress and frustration. We have experienced all the same errors, glitches, freezes and hangs that everyone mentions; went through all the same troubleshooting, disk cleaning, and mind-warping conversations with the inept and deliberately fraudulent Sony customer service. Our unit is rarely used and has been stationary for the entire 20-months we've owned it. Cambridge Soundworks has a good rep. in the Boston area, but even they covered up all the common problems with this design-flawed, poor quality unit. They highly recommended it in the first place and that was our reason for choosing the device. They must have known about the problems with the unit at that time as it was on sale because the new models were coming out. Now that we have complained to both Sony and CS, they want to charge us the price of a brand new unit to (temporarily?) fix the inherent laser problem and neither company will acknowledge the fact that the majority of customers who bought this model have complained. Neither will state an acceptable lifespan for this product. 18 months is ridiculous. I have a 15-year old, 5-disk changer, Yamaha CD player that has never had a problem, is used constantly, and has been moved numerous times. The Sony DVP-S560D should have been recalled long ago. We're opting for a new non-Sony unit. We’ll have to buy a model that has been out for a while to be certain we’re getting what we pay for. It is impossible to do your homework and choose wisely, based on reviews, when the trouble with a unit begins just after the warranty period. Sony is dishonorable. Do not trust them. Buy a new NON-Sony unit and forget about trying to fix this one. We will never buy Sony or Cambridge Soundworks again. How do we sign up for the class action lawsuit against the Sony scam artists? |

The whole unit. Bad product, Period. Class action lawsuit against SONY pending due to this pathetic example of a DVD player. It is the worst item I have ever purchased and the people at SONY's help line could care less. They act like this is not a prevalent problem, and want me to give them $130 to fix a DVD player I have had for only one year. Similar Products Used: none |

Nice unit when it works
Weakness:
It doesn't work for long. Nice unit right up to the point where it stopped working. I've owned this unit for about a year and only watched it about 20-25 times. Here is what happened. (BTW, this all happened in a single hour.) 1) Suddenly started getting digital visual distortions. 2) Picture froze on screen 3) Ejected DVD, cleaned it, re-inserted. 4) Got "No disc" message 5) See line 3 6) See line 4 7) Tried a different disc 8) See line 4 9) See line 3 10) See line 4 11) I tried several different discs with the same results. 12) Physically turned off DVD player and tried to turn it back on 5 minutes later. 13) Display flashed on for 1/2 second and than went off. On/Off button flashed green for 1/2 second and then went red. 14) See line 12 15) See line 13 16) Called Sony tech support and was told that the head was dirty and needed cleaning. 17) Had entire unit cleaned by professional techs (I work with electronic techs) 18) Techs perform action on line 13 19) Techs tell me that unit is "toast" and show me heat(?) damage on board level components. 20) Techs tell me they called Sony for me to get $325.00 repair estimate. Sony will never get another dime of my money. There is clearly a known design flaw at the board level on this unit and Sony has chosen to ignore it instead of doing the right thing and issuing a recall notice. Very clean for about 1 year then OMG! I now have the cleanest DVDs from all the cleaning and buffing!
Weakness:
Biggest Piece of $#@! and worst waste of money! Game over Sony loses a valued and loyal customer! C13:00 C13:00 C13:00...No Disc No Disc No Disc. I've spent over $100 trying to clean and fix this DVD player and was naive enough to throw away some "defective" DVDs. Worked well for about 1 year then the nightmare began. Skipping, freezing, 45min into the movie it returns to the opening credits!!! This is the king of Lemons for DVD players. I threw it out the window and it survived the fall! But you guessed it, it still didn't work. I have a $5000 surround sound system but can't watch a freaking DVD!!! I'm currently using my X-box for DVD viewing...sad. A complete joke of a product. Similar Products Used: All sony VCRs and DVDs should be recalled and money refunded. Onkyo, Denon, JVC, Harmon Kardon. |

Strength:
(1) When it works it works great. (2) I like the 5.1 channel output and dolby digital encoder - a lot of the new ones only have digital outputs. (3) the batteries that came with it have lasted longer than the DVD player - maybe sony should concentrate on marketing batteries instead.
Weakness:
What I've learned from this experience: If you buy a SONY product, it will work fine until the warranty expires then it will die and it will cost you more to fix than to replace. Could this be the comeback of American electronics? Nah... it just shows how Americanized SONY realy is. It took a while, but my DVP-S560D has caught the Sony Syndrome. It will play enough of the movie to get you nice and interested and when it hits the 2nd layer it pauses and jumps back 45 minutes at the most dramatic times. I swore it wasn't the DVD player and kept scrubbing my discs like Lady Macbeth. But after doing a search on the internet I came across many, many sites with the exact problems being ranted with as much enthusiasm as I have now. I called Sony, fully understanding that I was not under warranty, but what the hell. The guy says $132. I can buy two cheap ones for that and they'll probably last 15 years. I was ready to strangle that voice-recognition computer when he couldn't understand "5"... I thought you said "I" or "Y" is that correct? I asked the guy about any recalls as this seems to be a huge problem with every single one of these models - he said no. I say panisonic tommorow so my wife can get through my 24 season one set. You don't buy sony... you rent and the lease is 1-year. I have bought my last sony product. Thank god my camera was made in japan. Similar Products Used: Panasonic soon. My parents have had a Proscan for about a decade and it's still going strong. You could break the disc in half and that thing will still play it. Never another SONY. Go lawyers!!! |
