Strength:
Build Quality, and Video and Audio Quality.
Weakness:
Angle changes at times doesn't work smoothly. Great built product, the Toshiba units are nice also, infact I liked the picture quality via Progressive units on the 5109 better, but this is Toshibas 4th Generation unit, Sony is on its Second, so its not comparing apples to apples. The Similar Products Used: 5109,3109 Toshiba and S-7000 |

Strength:
Solid construction, superior audio/video quality, fast chapter access, excellent player for CD's as well
Weakness:
On-screen displays are old-fashioned, "enter" button on remote very difficult to use Like almost everyone else, I love the superior audio and video quality that this player provides. I have had absolutely no technical problems with the 7700. As for the on-screen menus, they are very functional, but they are far from exciting. If you're expecting something along the lines of the 550 menus, you'll be very disappointed. But as I said they work. For the remote, I don't mind the jog shuttle forward/reverse; it's easy to get used to after a week or so. The problem is with the enter button used to select options on the DVD menus. It's very easy (and frustrating!) to hit the button the wrong way and select something you don't want. |

Strength:
Good quality. Excellent features.
Weakness:
None apparent. After owning the Sony 7700 for several months, it has proven to be an excellent DVD player. Overall quality appears to be excellent, with great picture, sound and features. Overall, I am very pleased with the performance and reliability of the unit. As a reference player, I expected high quality and the Sony delivers in this regard. Strength:
A Reference Standard DVD/CD Player:
Weakness:
None I have the best of both worlds. I have the Sony DVP-S7000 and the Sony DVP-S7700 DVD/CD Players. These two are simply the best DVD players that money can buy. The Picture, audio surround sound is better than at the movies. No runs just crystal clear picture and sound. Of course the DVP-S7700 has a DTS output to hooked up to my new Sony STR-DE935 DD/DTS receiver. The combination is awesome. I think that I have some of the best speaker system around to play and hear all of the surround sounds that these units have to offer. Similar Products Used: None |

Solidly built machine with tremendous audio/video quality especially wen using component video and optical digital audio. No lip synch problems noticed as with the 550D. Great buy at around $800.00 . . . . |

How can you tell the difference in sound on a dvd player? If you use the digital out you are using the DAC on your receiver to decode sound therefore the sound shouldn't change much between dvd players since it's just a transport digital bits to the receiver. These reviews are so often just plain dumb.5 stars!!!! like everyone else!!! |

Strength:
Sharp looking unit, 24bit/ 96Khz audio output. Motorized front panel. Quick operational response.
Weakness:
Difficult remote, no zoom, pan, or on-screen menu. No progressive scan output. Not MP3 compatible. Very disappointing unit. Can't seem to find anything that will do everything I want, no matter the price. VERY difficult remote for choosing different menu options. Am returning unit after only less than a month of use. Not bad if you get it for less than $700, but for the original MSRP of $1200, not even close to worth it. Except for the better audio output, the Phillips, for less than $200, blows it away. Get something cheaper, and wait for somebody to finally come out with something that is worth it. Similar Products Used: Apex AD-600A, Phillips 711, Arcam DV88 |

Strength:
Sound is good.
Weakness:
Instructions w/player suck, front panel pointless, crappy screen saver and remote, freezes and skips, picture so-so Hmm I really hate to do this because I had high hopes for this player. Frist off the instructions that come with this player is a joke, it really isn't clear and keeps telling you to refer to another page. The front panel looks cute but I think we could have saved some money on the development of the useless thing. Screen saver is horrible for the price you pay. Remote is huge and clumsy with the buttons in inconvenient places. Similar Products Used: JVC |
