I have also experienced audio dropouts with this unit. Reciever in system is Sony STR-DA30-ES. Has anyone with recievers or processors other than Sony had any problems? I personally can not deal with this at all. I returned my unit for a refund. This model now seems to be conspicuous by it's absense in my local retail market. The place where I bought it (Sam's), no longer has it. My local Bryn Mawr Stereo had the 2108, and they no longer have it. A recall perhaps? My local Cicuit City store salesman is aware of the problem and he claims that Sony is the culprit. This undoubtedly is a complicated interface issue, however Toshiba seems to have admitted to the problem by offering an "upgrade". I as a consumer really dislike having to do a company's beta testing. I refuse to eat the shipping and wait for the unit to be returned. Outside of the audio problem the 2108 was a superb performer. A real disapointment for me however. I replaced it with a Panasonic A-110 and have not had any problems with it. |

Well, I bought this unit back in December prior to getting my Yamaha (RX-V2095) A/V Rec.Until I got my rec everything was fine. Once I hooked it up to the rec and DD I started noticing the audio-dropouts straight away, although not that frequent and not on all DVD's it's still is a concern. |

Toshiba SD-2108 DVD Player: Just got a refurbished SD-2108 back from Toshiba yesterday. The Audio Dropout problem appears to have been resolved. This was very frustrating since it was intermittent and I really didn't know if the problem was with my DVD player, my new Yamaha (RXV-795) receiver or cabling. Thanks to Audio Review for having a forum to air these problems. Toshiba took about 1 week to get me another unit. It appears as though the refurbished unit (JUN 98 mfg date) was never used so I assume it was sitting in factory inventory prior to refurbishment. The picture is extraodinary and AC-3 is a quantum leap above Pro-Logic. I would give it five stars except I can't forgive the manufacturer for rushing a product to market that had not been fully tested. |

I have had this player for 2 weeks. I am already getting the audio dropoutsusing the Sony ES50. This is NO way to watch a movie. |

I had the same audio dropout as other people have mentioned... and this is no way to watch a movie. I thought it might have been my Sony 30 ES receiver but after reading the reviews on here, I found out that it's the Toshiba SD-2108. This really makes me mad. As a comsumer, we shouldn't have this type of problem with new electronic equipment and I am very disappointed at Toshiba. I have their TV and a Hi Fi VCR that works really great. Oh well, I guess you can't win them all. |

Average build quality as within all Toshiba hardware.(what does this thing weigh? 1/2 a pound at most) Picture is sharp and general color reproduction is very good. Audio also is good when it's working. The audio dropouts according to Toshiba are a firmware glich and can be corrected by simply sending back your unit to be exchanged for a B-Stock or who knows whose unit. Oh, and did I metion this will take three weeks. Oh, and one more thing, if the units out of warranty it will be $175.00. Nice. Toshiba admits there is a defect with all of these machines and then wants to charge their customers who paid for the unit to pay for their mistake. Great business ethics. First and last Tocheeseba product I will ever buy. The Panasonic and yes the Sony in the same price realm are both better machines. Just look at the new 3109. That double tray design is a short lived feature and the transport is made by Philips. What's the matter Toshiba, can't make your own transport that actually will work? I will put money on that double disc mechanism breaking. I have never fealt a cheaper feeling machine. Cheese,Cheese, Cheese. When shopping for a dvd player stay away from the Toshiba Line and you'll be satisfied. If this problem has not happened on your machine, it will. Buyer beware. P.O.S. |

I've owned my 2108 for about 10 months, and haven't had any problems. About 70 DVD's, never any audio droup-out problems. The video is first rate. Admittedly, at stores the Panasonic had slightly better clarity, but when using the ColorStream component video outputs, the picture is beautiful. Unlike the Panasonic that has some problems with WB and other DVD's requiring new firmware, I have not had any read problems with the Toshiba. |

Toshiba 2108 DVD player. I have had this unit for over 7 months now and it has proven itself to be very capable. My unit has performed very well and is quite a value. The zoom feature on the this unit is a nifty feature but I seldom use it. The picture has been excellent and I have never had any issues with the audio playback. |
