Well, I was so happy with this unit for the first 8 months....... until I got a Dolby Digital receiver with 5.1 speakers. Then the dropouts started. |

I have had the 2108 for 7 months now and began noticing the audio drop outs from the get go. However, I have found that the cleanliness of the DVD disk itself can cause these audio dropouts and by ensuring a clean piece of media has dispelled 90% of the audio issues for me. I am feeding the signal via Toslink to a Sony STR-DA-30ES. The unit performs flawlessly in all other respects as to picture clarity and superb sound(when it isn't dropping). I would be interested in learning more about a return for a more fully functional upgraded unit but after 7-8 months of use I'm not sure what my chances are. |

I've had my SD-2108 since Christmas and like many others had the audio dropout problem using this unit with a Sony STR-DA-30ES. To those who've had a "bad" experience with Toshiba exchanging their unit, I suggest they all work in the manufacturing and retail trades for awhile. You must be persistent and insist Toshiba take care of your problem. If you actually read most manufacturers warranty statements you will find they do not cover transportation of your product to their factory or authorized repair/service facility. The warranty only covers parts & labor for a defined period of time and in most cases covers shipping back to you, the customer. Toshiba's warranty is no less than any other manufacturer. They want you as a customer and will bend, so hang in there. They sent me a shipping label so I could send my unit back to them at their expense and sent me back another unit. This did take a week, but it did not cost me any $$$, only a little time. The replacement unit has been and will continue to be a stellar performer!! I'm giving it 4-1/2 stars as nobody is perfect. |

Purchased the SD-2008 in Jan.99, and have used it for both DVD's and regular CD's. No drop-out problems to report and am using the Technics AC-300 decoder via the co-ax i/p & o/p's. Sorry for your luck people. My unit was also a Future Shop Demo's model! |

I have used this player since last winter with a marantz home theater receiver (685) and have not had any drop-out problems. Overall very pleased with features and sound quality. |

I have had the 2108 since December and started noticing audio drop out's after about 2 months... I am using a Kenwood VR209 reciever and am feeding the audio with a toslink cable. However, when I put the receiver into "manual digital" mode instead of "auto digital" mode, I don't lose the audio. Other than that, I have had no problems with the DVD ... the picture is sharp and when the sound is working (99.9% of the time) is sounds fantastic! |

None Bought the SD-2108 based on the excellent review from home theater magazine and been happy with it ever since. Also paid only $309 with s/h, you can't beat that. |
