Strength:

Quiet, HDCD compatable, lot's of outputs.

Weakness:

The remote could be a little more aesthetically pleasing but gets the job done. It is easy to get used to using in the dark unlike some reviews I've seen.

I bought this after reading lots of great reviews here, and I'm glad I did. It has tons of outputs(gold plated). Perfect picture, it looks ablosutly sweet on my 27" WEGA(using component connects). Unfortunatly the dealer woulden't move too much on the $499 price tag he said the unit was the first he got and was in big demand(the usual line, hehe), But he did give me a good price on my toslink and component cables, and did give me 6 freebee DVD rentals. One nice thing is the HDCD decoder in it. I didn't even realize I had any until I started playing some of my newer CDs. Anyway.. it's a great DVD if your in the market for one.

Strength:

Great features, improved remote.

Weakness:

Product failed..questionable quality.

Great features, especially like the dual disk capability, and the improvements from the SD3109 remote. However....
product failed to play DVDs after just 15 days!!!!! DVD picture was fragmented and eventually picture would disappear. Had to replace it and hoping second unit will function properly. Not impressed with the Toshiba quality at this point.

Strength:

Nice unit. Twin trays. Well laid out. Good quality construction.

Weakness:

Remote a little clumsey, but not as bad a some

I did a lot of research on DVDs and landed with this one. It has not let me down and the whole family likes it a lot. Very clear picture, no artifacts (I kind of want to see one so I know what one is). Good CD play quality. This is my first DVD and am really happy with the Toshiba.

Strength:

Super Sharp Picture and Good Quality Sound

Weakness:

No backlight on the remote.

I had bought a Panasonic DVD-A320, but my in-laws liked it so much that I ended up giving it to them. I absolutelt loved the Panasonic DVD player. After a lot of research, I decide to give the Toshiba SD-2200 a try and its worth every penny I spent on it ($216 @ Egghead auction). I started out playing the Matrix and it played flawlessly. The zoom features are great, however it tends to cut out the left & right sections of the picture.

The picture quality is very sharp even through the composite connections to my SONY 32 inch TV and sound is great too. The simuated 3-D sound works alright through the TV speakers.

Overall I am very satisfied with my purchase.

My only complain ... The remote does not have a back light, so I cannot see the buttons in the dark.

Also for people who complain that it does not play movies from the point where you stopped, a way to get around it is to note the time elapsed when you stopped the movie and then use the time button on the remote to input the time which allows the movie to begin at the same point where you stopped it.

Strength:

Picture, zoom feature, dual tray, quiet mechanism. CD's sounds great but prefer to play through my CD player for the 5 channel sound.

Weakness:

Sometimes produces bluish or tan patches on faces at times, perhaps a macrovision protection system ?

I absolutely satisfied with the SD2200. I don't know what the whiners are complaining about. The remote does take some getting use to but once you get the hang of it, its all right. The zoom feature is useful to lesson the black lines during the widescreen presentation. Zoom 1 and 2 is fair 3 will get blurry somewhat. It does what a $249.00 player supposed to do and does it well. If you whiners don't like it spend your $600.00 and I can spend the money saved on something else. A DVD that can play and sound great with no glitches is ideal, until the recordable ones arrive so save your money. For its price range its one of the best out there. It's search, freeze, frame by frame and fast forward-reverse are smooth as silk. It does slightly delay on dual layer dvd's but most(dvd players) do anyways. Another tip buy your DVD movies at Blockbuster Video, the pre-viewed section will save you $5-$15. Bought the Wild Wild West for $7.99 with the $2.00 off discount.

Strength:

Twin Disc tray, Spatializer, plays audio CDs also very well

Weakness:

None yet

So far, it has been working like a charm. I can certainly vouch for many of the positive reviews given on this site. I do not have the complete home theater set up, and am still using 2 speakers. The spatializer is certainly a very good thing to have until I go to 5.1. For people wanting to buy this, I just saw it on Mercata at below $300. I myself bought it for $301. Go for it!

Strength:

Dual Tray System, easy to use remote, Dolby Digital Decoder, 3x Zoom, Value for Price Paid*

Weakness:

Remote is not Backlit

Purchased this model after careful research on the internet and inquiries at several Canadian Retailers. Standard list price for this model is $499.99 CDN. Purchased this model for $429.99 CDN. Independant retailers will give you this price if they want your business, stay away from big electronic retailer chains. This model is sleek looking, quiet and easy to use from the beginning. Once default settings are programmed in by the user, the player will adjust to the DVD loaded for optimum performance. Initially a little apprehensive about combining Toshiba product with Panasonic TV (GAOO) and Yamaha Stereo system when both competitors have DVD's on the market. Found Toshiba offered more technology that I required at a better price Than Yamaha or Panasonic. Excellent picture quality, premium sound reproduction for both Dolby 2 ch Pro Logic/Dolby Digital 6 ch output. It is a must to purchase a high quality S-Video cable as a minimum. Zoom feature is very effective to illiminate letterbox presentation as well as centering or scrolling accross the frame. I found no problems with the remote control as others did. The absence of backlit feature is not a problms as my other remotes for my stereo are without this feature as well. Very flexible and convienient for use with DVD/Video CD's and standard CD's.
Have not discoverd any flaws in the quality of video and audio reproduction in the 10 movies I have viewed. Dual tray is a luxury that is not necessary but convienient.
My current system in use with this model is a 32'Panasonic GAOO TV, Yamaha Integrated Amp/DSP AMP combination and Mission 734's, 762's and C2 loudspeakers (No Sub yet)
Dolby Digital De-Coder was a necessity for my system which the SD-2200 offered. My suggestions for DVD's to experience on this unit with comparable Video/Audio system: Saving Private Ryan, The Matrix, End of Days. You will not be disappointed!

Strength:

Excellent picture. Great looks. Many features and reasonable cost ($249 with free shipping at buy.com) makes this unit an excellent value.

Weakness:

Absolutely none. I feel the remote was fine. Don't listen to the whiners!

After two weeks of intensive research I conclude this was the best unit out there and I am happy to say that I was right. The closest thing is the Sony 330S but my research revealed that the Sony is defective from the get go (lip sync) requiring service out the box (I can't believe people will tolerate this), has less features (i.e. no component output) and is very noisy.

The Toshiba is extremely attractive. Very intuitive to use. Provides detailed video and has expandibility. Highly recommended. I would give >5 stars if possible.

Audio, Video, onboard DD decoder and both Digital optical and coax 'puts

Weakness:

The remote is a little funny!

I like this player alot, the sound and video is awesome and has everything you need for a great player at a decent price. I also bought this with rewards I saved up from doing various programs. I like the dual disk capability and would recommend this as a player to have! The layout on the remote is a little weird and the jog on it can be a little tricky at times but to me a remote is not a problem as long as the player performs well and it does, smooth as can be!

Picture, Audio

I have only had the DVD for about 2 weeks and it is great. The picture quality is better than most I have seen. The audio, using the optical option connected to my Yamaha 795a is crisp and realistic. I am using Energy fronts, rears, centre and subwoofer speakers and the SD2200 really makes them "bark". Looking forward to see what it is like when the new Toshiba 50x81 progressive scan tv arrives. This unit is a great value for the money.
