Strength:
Quality of sound and manufacturing; easy to move if need be; excellent support from Bose if needed
Weakness:
NONE! We live in a delightful older Cape Cod with small, but warm and inviting rooms. Our den, where we watch TV is only 8X9'! I had my 30 year old Yamaha 45 watt system with 2 Genesis bookshelf speakers set up as an amplified stereo tv system. I purchased a 3.2.1. system and have been quit plesed with its performance. Though not a true surround sound system, it projects sounds around our small room very well. It does an excellent job on both music and movies. I am much more a classical music fan than a commercial tv fan and I do like the quality of the CD music with this system. Also, it sets up and moves easily. Small size, good video
Weakness:
The sound!! (which is where this system is supposed to excel) I do not own this system, but listened to one for a three day period while visiting a friend. I was appalled at the sound of this system. It was terrible. It sounds so bland and unexciting as to be basically unlistenable for any length of time. I brought several DVDs and CD's of my own to evaluate this system, and I was prepared to really give this system a chance. It disappointed me when I first listened to it, and after several days of evaluation, I finally gave up. The video was okay to good. But the sound!! It made me realize that if anyone thinks this sounds good, they probably have never heard live music or even a decent hi-fi setup. I don't have golden ears, but everything I played through the 3-2-1 system sounded as though it had been processed through a blender and then churned out, reprocessed so that it sounded like mush. The sound of this thing left such a bad taste in my mouth that the good things it did and the ease of setup and small size did not impress me at all. I guess you could say that I really didn't like this system. Similar Products Used: Infinity, Polk home theater systems |

Size, speakers and sound!!
Weakness:
Component connection and progressive scan dvd. I bought this unit factory sealed from eBay which I must say was very easy and smooth. As for the system, I was purchasing this unit to get away from all the wires and speakers needed to get good sound. I was amazed by the quality of sound and picture via the DVD player. I have a 30 inch HDTV and was blown away by the quality of picture via composite connection athough I am using Bettercables Silver Serpent which is also unbelievable. The sound during Gladiator was as if I was listening to a true 5.1 system, except the BOSE only uses two speakers and a subwoofer. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a system that will give good sound and looks great. It is a great discussion peice. It is expensive but you get what you pay for and lots more!! Weakness:
Hardware expandability, colects dust too well! OK, I admit that in the beginnig I was no to sure of this sistem, but then I gave it a try. for start It is easy to install (too easy (no fun)), then it sounds *great*, the image quality is near to superb (I know no composit entry) and finaly you can put it anywere! I had my share of trobles with it, but nothing that the firmware upgrade could not solve. A piece of advice: let the firmware upgrade run to the end, if not you could turn it inoperable. If you have a small room I recomend that you at least listen it. Similar Products Used: hardman/kardon AVI200mkII sony DVP315s |

Superb sound for size, ease of use, quality.
Weakness:
No component jacks--(therefore not a progressive scan dvd player). Ive read many negitive and positive reviews before purchasing this system.I must say I was rather paranoid to purchase, Now that I have it, I dont have a clue what some of the negitve reviewers were on, This system is mind boggling how well it sounds considering the compact source. Now dont let that scare you, because I may be Brand New to Bose I am not knew to home theater recievers I had had H&K,Sony,Kenwood THX,and Denon. This system blows them away pound for pound. The way it sounds in a store is not what it sounded like in my living room-13'+21'.I cant wait to show it off to my friends and family. So if your considering between Bose and an competitor remember Bose has a 1 year warranty on the 3-2-1. Sound, compact size, ease of set up.
Weakness:
A bit too easy to set up.. sort of like a chick stereo!.. hey, your buddy's will give you $hit! And finally.. the quirky freeze when the unit is turned on after a few days of non use.. causes you to unplub to reset. I purchased the Bose 321 when it first came out. I love the compact nature and size and I know Bose speakers/systems last forever. I don't know if it may be because my unit was first generation, but this thing does not want to open the disc drive after a couple of days of non use. Bose engineers have to work this out. What I have to do is turn the power off, unplug it and plug it back in to reset. This is very annoying in unit that cost 1G. I would definately like to trade this in for a lifestyle unit. They have been out longer and I know from experience they are reliable. |

Strength:
Bose sound quality, you can definately here it. Little dog, with a huge bite.
Weakness:
Bose's patented technolgoy, because of it, I cannot purchase a universal remote, so instead of seven remotes, I am down to two. I got to say, as an audiophile, not a great system to mess around with, too much of a 'plug-n-play' system. Besides that, the sound is crystal clear, the bass is very smooth. Can also add components (VCR, Game system, etc) which all sound great. I would not reccommend this to anyone with a Large entertainment room. |

Strength:
Straightforward, easy setup and simple foolproof wiring. Authentic, realistic bass reproduction complimenting the clean, two-speaker surround sound.
Weakness:
Too easy to set up for the audiophile. Not enough work to kill a weekend or two. Bose has created a surround sound product that conforms to my living area and requirements. I do not wish to dedicate a piece of my home to a single purpose, home theater. The 321 system is easy to hook up, a pleasure to use and hear. No phony, "super bass," just clear, undistorted quality sound. In spite of numerous bad reviews, I found the unit more than satisfactory. The remote functions well and the screen prompts enable easy setup to match the acoustics of my room. If you prefer to mess around with bulky components and run wires to hang five speakers when two will do the job, then the 321 is not for you. I prefer the simplicity and convenience of the 321. Sound quality.
Weakness:
Way too many technical problems. The Bose 321 system has been one problem after another for me. The latest started with loading a software update that Bose sent me. First, I noted that when I tried to increase the volume with the remote, the audio turned off. You could remedy this by changing to the AUX function, then returning to the CD function and adjusting the volume. Next, I tried to play a DVD. It would not play the dialogue track. All the background sounds and music are there, but you only see lips move without any voice. From there, the system went totally tits up. I tried to reload the system update, and now I can't eject the disc nor does anything else work. I can't even turn the system off without unplugging the main power cord. |
