Living in the land of sunshine, oranges and severethunderstorms I purchased Monsters HTS1000 more for
a 8 outlet surge protector than anything else. Talk
about surprise the HTS1000 actually works, I have
noticed greater picture detail, color and a vast
improvement in my audio's midrange, treble and
soundstage. IMO worth looking into.

Strength:

Lots of outlets... added benefit of coming with moster cable phone line and coax

Weakness:

What was this supposed to do that a power strip doesn't?

I bought the monster HTS-2000 power conditioner to help with the extremly dirty power in my apartment. Whenever anything, even the light switch in the bathroom, is switched on or off my Monarchy DIP blinks out for a second.. which can get really annoying.. I was really hoping the monster power conditioner would do something about it - nope... I haven't had emough time to see if any improvement in sound - mainly I just want to fix the audio dropout on my digital sources. Also since hooking up the coax one (and only one thank goodness) cable tv channel doesn't come in anymore - very strange... I give 4 stars to value becuase Globalmart has it much, much cheaper than anywhere else I could find.

Mine is the HTS 1000, I didn't see a link for it. But its the same as the HTS 2000 I'm guessing minus the extra outlets. Anyway, I don't think this unit is the wisest allocation of anyone's dollars. Firstly, nothing will stop a lightning bolt: if it gets that far down the line your gear is gone. Secondly, I don't own a tv so I can't say what it does for video. Lastly, I didn't do anything dramatic for my audio. If there was a difference in sound it was subtle, and maybe very well attributed to some placebo affect. Maybe, I was getting a little more detail in the highs and the soundstaging got a little more ethereal so that it didn't sound like sounds were coming from the speakers themselves. However, it did seem to squash some punch/life/soul out of it in a very different way. Like some of the dimension was flattened out of the soundstage. I just didn't like having the thing there.

The other reason these things are not necessary is that well-designed audio gear already has some filtering built into the power stages to immunize it from line pollution. So cheaper gear might benefit a little more. The only thing is for $150 (or $100 if you get it discount at globalmart.com) you can still buy other things that will improve the sound of the stereo, and greater improvements.

A basic set of RPG room acoustics foam would work well to tame room/speaker interactions ($50 to $70 a basic set at audioadvisor.com). If your speakers don't have the most rigid enclosures, some dynamat-like material used in car subwoofer boxes will clean up the sound of you speakers to eliminating unwanted cabinet resonces ($10-$20 at most car audio shop; how much you need depends on your speakers). Hell, do both of those and you may still have the $5 to $6 leftover to buy the Acoustic Imager foam rings that go around your tweeter helping eliminate some of the diffraction that occurs in high-frequency driver not mounted in an open-air enclosure.

Strength:

Great AC noise filtering and a surge protector for low $$$. A fraction of the price of the Fancy line conditioners.

Weakness:

Buy on the internet because stores will sell it for 40% more.

First I would like to say that this unit is MUCH more than a surge protector. It has caps and inductors to reduce the AC noise. BUT DO NOT BUY THE MONSTER PRODUCTS 800 AND LOWER, they are just fancy surge protectors.

A word of caution DO NOT BUY ANY MONSTER PRODUCTS IN THE STORES THEY ARE WAY OVERPRICED. Buy them in the internet at www.hififorless.com.

A friend of mine who has no kids and therefore has more disposable income than I brought over his AudioPrism Power foundation 2 (I think)AC line conditioner. He wanted to show me what the job they do protecting his equipment and cleaning the noise out of the AC.

The test: We plugged my bigscreen and stereo into the wall. In another room we connected and turned on a vacuum cleaner, blender, microwave and blinking Christmas lights. It is almost impossible to hear the static in the speakers over the noise of the blender, microwave and vac. But what was VERY NOTICABLE was the FUZZ on the TV.

Well next we plugged in the AudioPrisim and the fuzz was almost completely eliminated.

I prefer not to spend $600 on a line conditioner so I went bargain hunting...I found the Monster Power 2000HTS and the 2500HTS. I brought them both home and tested again. I could not do a side by side since this was a separate day but again I noticed a drop in the noise. I did not notice a difference between the two monster power products.

Now the other VERY appealing thing is that the monster power products offer ac filtering and surge protection and the real topper is that they back it up with $$$. So If your stuff gets fried they pay for it.

After reading all the reviews about the PS audio 300 I decided to borrow one from another guy I work with. We ran a bunch of tests on both the monster power 2500 and the PS audio. We even hooked up a o-scope to see what the output looks like. I connected my sony ES555 receiver with the Monster power and it pulled 3.1 Amps (about 370Watts) with a noise ripple of .03 Volts. I then hooked up the PS audio 300 and and it drew 3.7 Amps (444Watts) with a noise ripple of 0.006 Volts. In conclusion the PS audio: costs 5 times more than the Monster power 2500, wastes 20% power and gets hotter than a frying pan.

The money you waste in electricity is enough to keep away from the PS audio 300.

I ended up buying a HTS2000 and 2500 from hififorless.com for half the price of the hifi shop.

Weakness:

More that one device spaked while installing. Caused a ground loop and almost ruined my receiver. Junk, Junk, Junk...

I find Monster Products to be mass produced and of poor quality. This piece of junk is no exception. It actually made my video picture much worse, came with a cheap coax cable that was replaced by a $5 RCA coax cable (far superior quality). I still had a slight hiss in my system. This is a very large power strip that doesn't even do its job.

I ordered the Audo Power Pack V from http://www.audioadvisor.com/, they also carry Tice (more expensive).

This is perhaps one of the worst monster products I've every owned, behind their terrible digital cable that fell apart and they $70 S-Video cable that had poor resolution. Needless to say, I will try and return it to my dealer for store credit. The only decent product I ever had that was monster was my bi-wired cables with the interlink pins. Maybe they should stick to those and close down there other product lines.

Strength:

Cleans up and sharpens audio

Weakness:

Video improvement not noticable

Just received the HTS-2000 a few days ago. This may be the best $ 134 ( shipping included from globalmart.com ) that I have ever spend in connection with my audio/video system. The immediate and significant improvement in audio quality and detail was stunning. I never really believed that there would be such a noticable improvement, but there truly is. I have had my audio system for many years now and have always been happy with its performance. When I plugged its components into the HTS-2000, the graininess at the top end disappeared, the voices became sharper, and the bass became slightly deeper and richer. On Mary Chapin Carpenters latest CD, her voice on some songs becomes almost haunting. Instruments are easily separated on the soundstage. Beethoven's ninth produces more detail, better imaging, and an overall more atsisfying and realistic sound.
I did not notice much of an improvement on the video side however. The television picture did improve slightly when the unit was plugged in, but I noticed no improvement when using the coxial filter connections. If anything the picture became a little darker. S-VHS VCR did not improve.
One reason why the power filters may have made such a difference in my system is due to my house being the second to last house on the power grid. Because of this I probably receive all the garbage from everyone else on the line.
This product is highly recommeded. For the price, with the money back guarentee, you can't do better.

Strength:

Plentiful labelled outlets, high (1300) joule rating. Overall a good surge protector.

Weakness:

As a line conditioner, frankly I cannot tell any difference in audio or video.

Purchased it mainly for the surge protection features, but I was hoping my cable reception would clear up somewhat. It did not have any effect. But, there are a lot of reviews here that praise the audio and video improvement, so I guess it must just depend on your particular system and what type of interference, if any, you are getting. I would not suggest buying this just for the line conditioning, but if you want a very good surge protector, you should consider either this one or the HTS1000 which is the same thing, it just has 8 outlets instead of 12.

Equipment sounds MUCH better.

Weakness:

Too big?

I normally do not post reviews, but I felt it my duty after experiencing first hand what this product is capable of. I returned this same product about a year ago after being very dissapointed by what I assumed were false claims by Monster. At that time I was living in a relatively new home with my parents and I can honestly tell you it did nothing noticeable. I tried hard to convince myself that it was "opening up soundstage", adding a "bit more oomph on the lower end", and all of that. Needless to say, I returned it several days later.

Last week, however, I purchased a new Parasound amp, took it home, and heard an unbearable buzz from my speakers. I now live in an older apartment building, which gave me reason to believe that a line conditioner may fix my problem. Being the nice guy that I am I gave the Monster a second chance, hooked everything up, and whaddya know? It works great! :) It cut the noise by about 90-95%!(When you put your ear to the speaker it is audible.) It even improved my TV reception.

I am very happy with this product and I have experienced first hand both the negative(non-existent benefits) and positive aspects of it. It may not work in everybody's situation, but for those it does work for, it works, very, very well. I am very satisfied!

First, I own the HTS 1000 not the 2000; however, they are pretty much the same with less outlets. To make it brief, this product turns me from a non-believer in 'line conditioner' into a total believer. Never think that a line conditioner can actually improve the quality of sound; well it does.CONCRETE FACT:
I used to have problems with static sound (real bad) when I tried to hook my DVD-414 (Pioneer DVD player) to my Preamp until I gave up. Partially (maybe) because my apt. AC line is pretty bad. Well, after using the HTS 1000, no more statics; as quiet as my Marantz 67SE. Very impress.
ABSTACT:
My Acurus A200 --> NHT 2.9 also sounds better. To me, the sound noticeably becomes more transparent (clear), and the bass is much tighter / more refine.
OVERALL:
I am very happy with this particular investment. Keep in mind though, my AC line is really polluted; therefore, this product does make a lot of different for my system. But if your AC line is already good, this product might not do the same magic as it does on mine.
