Strength:
Improved sound seperation, bass, looks, power, great bargain.
Weakness:
none It is an early review considering I have only owned the DV 62CLR for only 2 days, but I wasted no time in putting it to the test with most of my DVD collection. I have the BIC DV736 towers and I think I now understand what "voice matched" means. Sound from the front now flows smooth and effortless. Sound seperation all around is now awesome even with low quality surrounds. Bass has also improved. With the better sound separtion, my audio DVDs have really come to life. Home Theatre magazine described it as "the best center channel I ever heard". How can you go wrong with that. Similar Products Used: Wharfedale Rosewood |

Strength:
Amazing sound for $70 from a company that seems to be relatively unknown in the USA. Full, rich, crisp, and warm. Not hollow or boxy sounding.
Weakness:
None (This is the new smaller version with the "S" on the end of the model number). I took a chance by purchasing this speaker because I had not listened to it beforehand. The fact that this speaker is rated in the top 3 on audioreview.com was enough for me to take a chance and get one online. Out of the box, I'm very amazed by the sound quality! It is very crisp and very bright sounding. It has a rich, warm sound quality. Not hollow and not boxy sounding at all. Both movies and music sound great. I keep reading reviews from people who have been having crossover upgrades done to it. I can't imagine how much better it sounds after this modification. I have previously tested center channel speakers from Polk, JBL, Yamaha, and Sony. None of them sounded any better than the BIC DV62CLR-S. The only one that "might" be better is the Klipsch RC-3 II. I had to leave a followup to the review I posted a couple of weeks ago. I think the new 62clrs will dissapoint many folks that have seen all the rave reviews given on the older 62clr model(only difference is the new model is 20" wide vs 25"). Something must have happened when they changed the cabinet size on this model because I wasn''t real happy with the sound. In any case, I had the crossover adjusted by Ed Frias (EFESPKRS@AOL.COM) who is mentioned in other Bic speaker reviews. It was $20 to have it done and it took just over a week to have it shipped out, adjusted and returned back. Since I had the speakers and crossovers out of the cabinet, I added some Dynamat in and sprayed in some automotive sound deadener/undercoating (to cut down on cabinet resonance). I then added gobs of polyfill (being sure not to cover the vent openings). The result is a wonderful sounding speaker. Night and day. I attribute much of the improvement to having the crossover adjusted. No muddy midrange at all now. I''m giving 5 stars now, but ONLY based on the modifications! |

Nit-picky : White printing on the tweeter bezel, ummmm.....that''s it! I have been looking for a center with a fabric dome to go with my NHT''s, but I didn''t want to pay +$200 for the real thing. A new baby will do that to you...Anyway, I bid $59 for this, won, and after shipping had a big-ass center for $84.59. It replaced an OLD Yamaha NS-AC300 that I loved, but I knew it was the weak link. I opened it before I installed it, and it does need a bit of polyfill to be sure. The drivers are great! The sum of the parts are certainly more than $100 easy. The 6.5''s are made with a strange plastic that is grooved like a record album. The tweeter''s bezel has some distracting white printing on it. I think I''ll scratch that off or paint over it. I wish it was a full 1", but it sounds great anyway. The cabinet''s wood is just thick enough to do the job. Nice binding posts, too. As far as sound goes, it''s unreal that this thing isn''t sold for more. I have no test equipment other than my ears, (and an SPL meter) but this speaker is a good bit brighter than the Yama was, which is a good thing because that was a dark sounding speaker. This sits comfortably on my 27" Sony, with shims beneath it for balance and to angle it down a bit. The BIC is quite efficient, at least 93db, according to the level trims on my rec. It has greatly improved my system, and I am not ashamed to say I have an $85 center. Strength:
good quality drivers
Weakness:
lack of baffle material inside cabinet - not sure about the dual vent setup in back....may be overkill I have just recently upgraded from the 52clr to the 62 clr-s. The new ''s'' model is 20" wide vs 25" in the older 62 clr model. With this speaker, do yourself a favor and add a generous amount of baffle material inside the cabinet to cut down on resonance. The speaker I got only came with just a bit of baffle on one side (which makes for a whole lot of nasty midrange coming out of the rear vents). Adding the baffle really helps to smooth the sound out. I added a bit of dynamat inside as well. I am also going to get the crossover adjusted by Ed as mentioned in previous posts. Similar Products Used: bic 52 |

Strength:
audiophile sound for an unbeatable price
Weakness:
Some sibilants in voices I never knew that any speaker I could afford to buy could sound as good as the BIC DV62CLR-S. First of all it is important to note that there are two different speakers being reviewed here. The DV62CLR is the older model manufactured BIC -- its dimensions are 8 1/2" H x 20" W x 10" D. The DV62CLR-S ("new slim shape" according to the manufacturer''s shipping box) is 7 11/16" x 20" W x 10" D. The shipping weight of the DV62CLR is 25 lbs, the DV62CLR-S 17.5 lbs. The specifications are also slightly different: the DV62CLR has a frequency response of 38 Hz - 20 kHz; "Characteristic Sensitivity" 90 decibels@1 watt, 1 meter; nominal impedance 8 ohms; crossover frequency 3500 kHz and "Undistorted Amplifier Power" of 10 -150 watts. The specifications of the DV62CLR-S are the same except that it''s frequency response begins at 38 Hz and its Undistorted Amplifier Power peaks out at 175 watts. All of the above information beginning with dimensions and ending here comes from the "Owner''s Manual" that came with my three DV62CLR-S. A visual examination discloses that the speakers differ in that the DV62CLR-S is ported in the front while the DV62CLR is ported in the back according to reports I have read here. The physical construction appears to the similar or identical: my DV62CLR-S''s seem to be constructed out a wood, probably a composite, with a wood grain laminate all finished in a low gloss black with sturdy 5-way binding posts. When I purchased my first speaker for use as a center speaker I had misgivings because I knew I was purchasing a speaker that was different from the speaker most people have reviewed here and was not the same speaker reviewed by some home theater magazine as "The Best Money Can Buy." Nevertheless, my experience is that the newer model has all of the attributes reviewers have found in the old model. I am no audiophile, but the "sonic detail" of the speaker is amazing. You here every pin drop, every snapping sound, and every thump with clarity and crispness. The extended bass lands a "chesty" quality to human voices and conversations. I know this sounds derogatory in that it''s seems that speaker is coloring the voices, but what I mean is that they sound natural and more like what you hear in an actual movie theater than what typically comes out of center speakers or television speakers. (My first DV62CLR-S replaced a Polk C-100 that I picke Similar Products Used: Polk, old Sansui, Bose, Velodyne, Altc-Lansing, Revox |

Detail and bass. Voices are clear.
Weakness:
Big I bought the Kenwood HTB-504 home theater in a box for Christmas. This system is very good for $500. The sub-woofer is worth $300. I read the reviews on the BIC center channel and decided to give it a try. This center channel exceeded my expectations by a mile. I am totally happy with my purchase. I am hearing detail that was not present before. It is big and unruly but the sound makes up for this. It brings out the rest of my speakers. I eventualy want to purchase the B&W DM303 home theater speaker package. I think that i will keep the BIC center. Run and get this Center speaker and keep some money in your pockets. Strength:
Stong look, stronger sound, impressively cheap in price.
Weakness:
A little heavy, but what do you expect for a speaker this size. I have only haveBIC speakers in my home theater except for an Acoustic Research sub, and BIC by far has the best sound for the money, stomping infinity, polk and other more expensive speaker systems. I compaired this speaker with a lot of others and no other center channel can compete with this one unless you would like to spend about 400 dollars or more. Impressive speaker for an even more impressive price. |

Strength:
Accurate - powerful - price
Weakness:
Big & heavy If you use good wiring throughout your system (ie; speaker cable, interconnects, etc.) and have a decent system in general then this is the center channel to get. You''ll be rewarded with the best that a speaker can provide. Accurate, dynamic, crisp sound. Better yet, get the dv62''s for the fronts and surrounds. A great combination for superb sound at a bargain price! A good powered sub will complete the system. |
