Strength:

Unbelivable sound

Weakness:

It is HUGE!!!

I auditioned the Klipsch speakers today and have decided that these are definitely the speakers for me. The problem I am having is with the gigantic dimensions of the RC-3. The set up I am considering is the RF3s up front with SS1s in the back. I really like the sound of the RC-3 but I currently only have a 27 inch set and will soon be purchasing a 36 inch set. In the store, I positioned this center on both size TVs and could not get past it's size. Does anyone know if Klipsch makes a center out of the with the same componentry but in a smaller size? I tried the set up with the smaller SC-1 center but there was a noticeable decrease in sound quality. Please email me if you have any suggestions (other than getting a monster TV to make the center look smaller).
Thanks

Well, now I'm stuck. I was never happy with my JBL ARC center (muddy vocals, shaky case) and after reading the AR ratings I went to Uncle's Stereo here in NY($269) and bought the RC-3. Best use of 269 bucks in my life! This baby is a beauty. Super clarity up-and-down the vocal range, good bottom, sharp top. The overall tone can be described as "woody," which I love and which leaves me with a problem. The tone is seriously at odds with my JBL HLS 820s. Since I love the cremona violin sound, guess I'll have to chuck the JBLs and try the Klipsch RF-3s. (Also available at Uncle's for a decent price, $560 a pair.)

Strength:

Clarity, Sensitivity, Looks

Weakness:

None what so ever.

I just purchased this center to match with my RF-3's and it is a perfect match. The tonal characteristics are quite incredable and do wonders to dialog in movies that go over the top. In the Omaha Beach sceen of Saving Private Ryan, this center channel showed it's stuff by belting out clear and audiable dialog and grunts that the men uttered during the beach invasion. Female vocals are also quite impressive. I picked up this speaker for only 225.00 after some heavy negotiations so the value of this speaker is impossible to beat at this price point. This is a beautiful unit and my hats go off once again to the sound engineers over at Klipsch for providing to us another fine product. Please note, if you purchase this speaker and you dont have highly sensitive front channels, you will have to tone down this speaker.

All that has been said is true. This is the best speaker I heard regardless of the price and I listened to quite a few. Klipsch has done it again!

Strength:

These speakers have the best bass and vocal range response of any price comparable center channel on the market. They are great for a speaker placement high on the front soundstage (10 feet).

Weakness:

Binding posts could be stronger.

I upgraded from a Boston Acoustics VR10 center channel. Before entering the store, I had intended on purchasing the Boston VR910 or VR920, and upgrading my mains to Boston VR950s added to my existing VRSPro surrounds (a great, yet now discontinued dipole surround speaker). When I demo-ed the VR910 I was astonished to learn that Boston Acoustics had increased the price by $50 on this model, and changed from a three way (VR10) to a two-way design (VR910). The new VR910's were tinny, lacked good vocal reproduction, and had vocal "dropout" at low listening levels.

Then I listened to the Klipsch RF series. I could not believe how extraordinary this speaker was at the same price as the VR910. For the price, at any price for that matter, the RC3 was the best center channel I heard, and even surpasses the Boston VR12($599), now discontinued.

I was so impressed with the Klipcsh Reference series that I traded in all my Boston Acoustics speakers and am now equipped with Klipsch RC3, 2 RF3's, and 2 RS3's. I am extreamly happy with this descision. Thank you Klipsch!

System Compoenents:
Denon AVR3200 HT Receiver
Denon DCM360 CD Player
Denon DRM650S Casette Tape Deck
Mitsubishi HSU445 VHS
Boston VR500 Sub

I plan to add a 24 bit digital DVD player within one year (Denon 1500).

Strength:

bi-wire capable,quality build and design

Weakness:

grill breaks easy

This is the best center channel I have ever heard for the price. Every voice and sound is so detailed and it can get loud. It looks unreal sitting on top of mt TV without the grill on. Another for Klipsch, 5-star Quality!

Strength:

cristal clear, good build quality, seamless timbre match with KSF 10.5's, great sensitivity at 97 db

Weakness:

None

I was using a Klipsch KV3 center, & at first wanted to upgrade to a bigger center channel to get a fuller range, mainly for music videos. But after hearing the RC3 i decided to go with quality (clarity) rather than quantity. Upon taking the RC3 home i did a direct comparison with my KV3, switching them & watching a familliar DVD (Tomorrow Never Dies). The KV3 produces a little more bass being ported, but does not come close to the clarity of the RC3. "This thing is cristal clear & produces every little detail". "It is amazingly smooth right out of the box", unlike my KSF10.5's, which took some time to break in. When i eventually upgrade to 6.1, i will use the KV3 as a rear center. For home theatre "in my opinion" you can't beat Klipsch. My hat is off to the engineers at Klipsch for making an outstanding center channel.

well after break-in period, i finally got this thing to scream. i own a denon 4800 and cranked it solo to 00 and just couldn't believe it. i then cranked it to +04 and still couldn't believe it. the speaker took all the power and i was almost afraid i was gonna hurt it, but it sang loud and clear. no distortion whatsoever...period. i could just imagine what the rf-3's are going to sound like since they are now on hold.

Strength:

Great sound. Perfect tonal match for the RF-3's.

Weakness:

If you have a weeny TV (oh say, 27" or less) This speaker will be 1/2 the size of it which is to say, overkill...

What can you say about a speaker that looks and sound this good? It is simply awesome.

Strength:

clear, open, uncompressed, non-boxy, dynamic

Weakness:

build quality, directional, forward sound

build quality: heavy cabinet would suggest a good acoustic engineering example, however, upon inspection of the interior I saw problems. The cabinet does not have any internal bracing. The acoustic material is skimpy and haphardly placed. The two woofers are not shielded from each others back pressure, they both fire into the same cavity! And the use of cheap wiring. From an audiophile standpoint or engineering standpoint, this is bad. Also the woofer has a low 'x' factor and rests within a cheap plastic basket; forget the marketing hype, it should have been cast aluminum. This is probably why this speaker is so reasonably priced. I would have gladly spent the extra to have it done right.

Sound: crisp, detailed, effortless, uncompressed, open sound that makes it one of the best center channel speakers I have heard. The sound reminds me of the same timbre that I hear at the movie theaters; and no wonder, they use horns also. this is a great center for home theater, less so if it is to be used for 5.1 channel dvd-audio or sacd. In this regards, a more accurate portrayed speaker would be better served.

The only problem that I heard with these figures is the relative directivity of the sound. Move from side to side and the sound changes...more so than the average speaker. Also have to be careful that you do not sit on direct axis of the horn...it could shout at you.
