These are great speakers, I've had mine for 2 years as long as you put decent power to them and a good source they sound great, I liked them so much I changed the rest of my system to B&W centre,(CC6) rear surrounds (DS6)in short they sound very good in home theatre and in two channel stereo,

I have know idea why people are saying these arent good speakers. Out of all those great reviews only 2-3 bad ones. Makes me wonder, whats wrong with the ones these guys were listening to? Maybe it was just the particular pair they got to try out or bought. I know when I owned my 604's they were incredible, especially in large rooms. 604's are $1600 that should say it, they are great speakers for the money, the pair I had and the equipment I used with them produced lifelike bass without any constant positioning or ever using the bass plugs. The bass could rattle windows without becoming boomy or muddy. I honestly don't know why people complain, the weakness of the 604's are the mids and highs. They are good and beat most competition costing up to about $1000 more, but it sounds a little boxy and isn't as clear as I would like. I own a pair of B&W CDM7SE's right now, they cost $200 more than the 604's and if your retailer allows a 1-year upgrade policy than its more than worth it. If you want sound that can really fill a big room with great sound good highs and great bass 604's are great speakers. If you prefer softer music that doesnt really push the limits of bass on a speaker, classical, jazz, or soft rock. Than shell out the extra $200 and get the new CDM7SE's, it has better clarity than any speaker under $3000. B&W is a great speaker company, and you do pay for the name. However, its an investment I dont regret. B&W has a very impressive R&D dept. and if you havent heard the new Nautilus 800 series your missing out. If you don't like B&W I guess thats your loss, their speakers are expensive however they offer the best. Every serious audiophile I know uses B&W. I've heard other speakers, too many of them...there are some very good sounding ones out there, but I am honestly sold on B&W.

Well, i was seeing all the reviews of the 604 and I want to add one too!I bought the speakers 2 years ago, and I have no thoughts to buy new speakers.
This because I LOVE them so very much. They play very good in CD-music and very good in DVD-movies. I think B&W is the best manufactor on speakers ever!
My brother have a pair of speakers from B&W that he bought 1982!!! And they still plays good!

But I want to change my A/V receiver to an dolby digital receiver. Does anyone have a good tip of a good digital receiver to B&W 604?
I was thinking of the new NAD T770 or H/K AVR 65/85, or maybee some Yamaha model.

The home cinema system that I have (with my roommate) now is:

B&W DM 604
B&W CCM center
Homemade "special" speaker (back speaker)
H&K AVR 25 (classic)
Panasonic DVD A-130
2 x Mitsubishi HiFi-video
Teac CD -player
Nokia 32" widescreen tv
Monster cable

And at last I must say that the prices is very different on B&W speakers here in Sweden. DM 604 cost 1200$ here (before 950$) and DM 603 cost 600$ (special price). So its cheaper here, but the place to buy B&W speakers are in special stores.

Live Well (and listen well) all B&W fans!

Senne

I can't understand how people get tricked into buying a pair of $1600 speakers that have 2 passive woofers in each cabinet. That is a joke !!!!These speakers sound so badly when compared to speakers from Pinnacle Classic Gold line, Paradigm Reference, Mission, etc.
Avoid the 600 series of B&W speakers, they are the Bose of B&W.

Hi All,
I've had the DM604's for about 5 weeks now. They are just marvelous!

Together with my Yamaha A/V Rec (RX-V2095) they sound just great either in HT or pure 2-channel stereo. If you want bass, listen no further, these can have your neighbours packin' and out in no time...

Once I get decent cables, the CC and dipoles for rest of the HT equipment, I'm not gonna be going to the movies for a while.

I preferred the cherry finish to the black and at 30 kilos a piece make certain you have them placed accurately prior to spiking them.
Excellent speakers for the price.

Cheers!

These were my first "real" speakers and began my neverending journey towards audio nirvana. If I had it to do all over again, for the money the only competitors would be psb or energy. I want Home Theatre and music, and these do them both. They are NOT perfect, but they do everything well. Good, not great, but what do you expect at this price level? Good soundstage, depth, neutrality, bass response is quite good, actually. A subwoofer is unnecessary for music.
They are last on my list for equipment upgrades. SYSTEM: Adcom GTP-600 pre/pro; Adcom GFA-7000; MIT T2 Biwire cable; Pioneer LD/DVD.

I'm interested in the comment comparing the 604s to the old 640s. I haven't done a lot of listening to the 604s, but I've owned a pair of 640s for 9 years now. When I purchased them, I listened to a wide variety of competitive speakers, some costing much more. I concluded that the 640s were the best all-around speaker. There were some that had more impressive highs, but over time I think that type of speaker becomes tiresome to the ear. I purchased a pair for $750 (a steal; found a place selling out their stock).
The B&Ws wore very well over time. They have a mellow, natural sound without loss of precision. The imaging is excellent, very good in a wide range of listening positions--important in the real world. Also, they have performed well in a wide range of listening rooms, also very important when you move often.

B&Ws have a reputation for classical music, and it's well deserved. But they also rock. I love metal, and these puppies can knock it out. The one disappointment is a relatively high floor, a problem which I figured to rectify with a sub at some point. Problem is, I was never able to find a sub that really matched up well with them, for a price I was willing to spend. Finally last year I demoed a B&W ASW 1000 and decided that performance of under-$1000 subs had finally improved to the point where I was ready to take the plunge. They make a good combination.

I was so pleased with my old 640s that I left them in my home theater room and recently purchased a pair of B&W CDM7SEs for a purpose-built audio room. I matched them with an ASW2000 sub. But that's a story for another review.

Just thought you guys would be interested in hearing about how these speakers hold up over time. Anyone have any opinions on how the newer 604s compare to the older 640s?

I have at last managed to hear the great 600 series and I had to get it b'cause its like nothing I have heard before. I have been using the Bose AM10 and then the Polk Audio RT series.( RT 800,RT f/x, and the CS 300).The polks were good but no way near these beauties. The Bose were a total dissapointment.
I got my new pair a few days back and I thought that you all should know that the B&W's are a real winner.
I am using them with a Yamaha DSP-A1 reciever and the Pioneeer DVL-919.

I've been listining for six weeks now to my new speakers and I find defenitly worth the 1000$ i spent on them. The sub i bought a year ago, is now without work, but you do have to spend a little time to placing them the right way, and not only because they weigh 28,4 kg a piece, but also because the placing is very important for these speakers. They are at their best at a high volume, but just like with my sub, things start to shake along, like my 32-inch Philips Widescreen.
I use these speakers in normal stereo, and i think everybody should do that, because dolby surround and other systems used playing music make the music sound less clearly.
There's only one thing missing: some metal plates you could place under the spikes, because the spikes went through a wooden plate I used instead.
If anyone's planning to buy new speakers and has some money, i admit they are expensive, he should buy these.
