Strength:
Good all around sound stage, and LOW bass that many speakers past and present cannot compete with (if you have the right receiver or amp).
Weakness:
The only problem with these is that they are hard to find. They were discontinued in 1997, I was fortunate enough to get mine. So good luck. You will not be disappointed. What can be said about the AT-15's? The list can go on and on. It depends on how you like to hear your music. For starters, if you have the right receiver or amp, you pretty much will have the best damn system on your block, maybe even your city. Like another person wrote about these, you do not need a powered sub to go with these. Unlike most speakers which are 8 ohms, these are 4 ohms. So if you have the right power source, you can actually achieve the low bass that you can hear in some car systems. I have played bass cd's with these by themselves, and it's almost hard to believe that these are regular house speakers playing without being supported by a powered sub. The highs on these are good as well. My list could go on so I'll just end by saying that they don't make speakers like these anymore, so if you can appreiciate good all around sound then go for these. Similar Products Used: Cerwin Vega E-715's, Cerwin Vega clsc-215. And I'm very pleased with all three sets. |

Strength:
Play very loud with no distortion, look great, awesome bass and with the right wire clarity like you would not believe
Weakness:
Speakers have none, just run better speaker wire. I spent three years in the Army over in Germany and in my off time I like to listen to music a lot. I probably bought about 6 different sets of speakers before I bought these AT-100's(same as AT15). I wish I would have bought these first, I would have saved a lot of money! I tried JBL, Infinity, and several others all at the advice of a sales person. Man was that a mistake listening to the sales people. These speakers are by far the best and most durable speaker I think ever made. I saw that some people had problems with there cabinets and I think that is weird cause mine are still like new and I even looked after reading that. I have never had a single problem with mine and they are 12 years old. Just recently I was thinking of purchasing some new speakers for my home, I thought that I would get something maybe smaller that had a little better clarity than my Cerwin Vega's as the highs and mids did not have enough separation. I was looking at spending around $1200 or more on some nice speakers. I have always run the nice monster cable wire so it would sound the best it could, but after doing some research recently I saw that there have been worlds of improvment on wire. Well, I had planned to replace my current monster cable with new monster Z2 when I got my new speakers anyway, and again have it sound the best it could. So, I went out and bought the wire before I got my speakers and thought I would try it on my AT 100's just to see what they souded like......all I can say is "WOW" if you do not have monster cable Z2 or equal you need to get it!!! My speakers sound outstanding now with separation between the highs and mids that were never there before and the strong bass just got even better. I always liked these speakers and now, I love them. I spent over $200 hundred dollars on wire and as far as I see it, that saved my over $1200 or more. I really can not say enough good about these they straight up, kick butt!!! Rock& roll''s best friend, with major BASS
Weakness:
bass port is a cat''s favorite place to hide. If you have a cat, just turn up volume slowly. These speakers are just wonderful. You don''t need a subwoofer for these babys! I don''t have my AT-15''s now, had to give them up because of a bad divorce. I traded them for a car. That''s right, a1988 Dodge Daytona. This guy wasn''t to sure over the phone,so I had come by just for a listen. My AT-15''s were part of a perfect home theater, along with an AT-8 for the center channel and 2 vega L-7''s for the rear. After I showed him the first part to Star Trek 6 (with the starship crashing though the energy wave)his jaw hit the floor! He had to have them! Well that was 3 years ago and I''m remarried and building a new house and my home theater again. Looks like Cerwin Vega coming home with me. Oh yeah, one note about the imaging, if yours is alittle off like my was, the problem is most likely the tweeter horn. See the AT-15''s uses the same tweeteras the AT-12''s, except theres this "horn"attached to the tweeter and then the "horn" is screwed to the cabinet.Well what is happening is that the bass energy is leaking past where the "horn" is attached. You can find out if this is happening to you if you use a stethoscope or small rubber hose to hear bass coming through the tweeter opening. To fix this just get some silicone or make a gasket and take apart the tweeter. It''s really easy to do,just 4 screws and out it comes. Then you willsee how this "horn" ia attached with just 4 screws as well. Apply silicone where the 2 parts meet, let dry and presto! Better imaging and cleaner highs. I hope this will help you AT-15 owners. Stay cool and keep it loud! Similar Products Used: why bother |

Bass
Weakness:
Everything but bass These speakers are horrible. I listen to hard music myself and there are better ways of getting bass (a good quality sub) then having to sacrifice what we all want, imaging, clear, flat frequency response, and not so bright that your ears ache after 10 mins. Anyone who gives these speakers a five must be under 22 years of age. |

bass, power handling, durability, reliability
Weakness:
cabinet build is not the best I am a part time DJ on the side, and have 2 pairs of AT-15's I use when I DJ. I have a Yorkville AP6020 power amplifier, rated at 800 watts/c into 8 ohms, and 1300 watts/c into 4 ohms which is what the Vegas impedance is rated at. But, using both pairs of Vegas on the one amp drops to a 3.4 ohm load, (measured accurately using a Nordon 76 osciliscope), which my AP6020 can handle without breaking a sweat (cooling fans stay off for the duration of a 4 hour show). This 3.4 Ohm load pushs power output of the amp well past 2000 watts/c. I can have the clipping light on the amp flashing continuosly the whole night, and all 4 Vegas just sing, no distortion, no bottoming out of any woofer, no tweeter clipping. Just music, the way Vegas are built to play it....LOUD! Keep in mind that my amplifier is a professional sound reinforcment amplifier, designed for outdoor concerts etc, and the Vegas are not. I know there are alot of people out there that hate Vegas, and thats fine. Go buy your electrostatic speakers that pop and tick when you put anything over 50 watts into them. Go buy your Bang & Olufsen 801's etc. I happen to know that Vega fans are fans for life, while you audio snobs change brands more than you change your underware. I love Vega's always have and always will. They are simply marvelous. Thanks Goerge Czerwinski, for the fantastic product. And by the way, to the person who left the message saying that anyone who would give Vegas a rating of 5 being under 21, I am 34. Age has NOTHING to do with loving Vegas. Got it? Strength:
Great sound quality ,able to really crank these up without any distortion, clean and deep bass output,102db Sensitivity rating @ 4ohms
Weakness:
probably there Size ,this speaker is rather large so you'l need a lot of space for them ,weight is around 95lbs. each I've had these Cerwin Vega AT-15's for 6 years now and they still sound like new ,able to really crank the volume without any distortion, clarity is great with my Kenwood 440watt Reciever plus I added a unit called a "Cerwin Vega Bass Turbo Charger DB-10" wich hooks into your Tape2 Monitor, this unit boosts the 10hz - 100hz frequency range by 10 decibels and also has a subharmonic filter,I was suprised how much better the bass output became with it enabled, the really low frequencies come out loud and clear, the Dual Midranges and Dome tweeter take care of the higher end quite well, this speaker also has fuse protection, tweeter and midrange volume controls ,8 inch bass port wich sits directly behind the woofer,400watt @ 4ohms power handling,102db Sensitivity rating so they sound good even at lower volumes, overall I'm very satisfied with this speaker and feel I got my moneys worth. |

Strength:
Overall sound field, smooth transient responce, Pavement cracking bottom end.
Weakness:
cabinet seperation, I need to fix mine. :o( I helped a friend pick out these back in 1992, we looked at everything out there around $1,000. And after checking out just about everything, the choice was clear. The At-15's stood high compared to the others, clean subtle high end, excellent vocals, and of course bottom end that would crack the pavement. AT-15's aren't just about the bass though, they have a well rounded sound stage. He had them for about 2 years, and had to move back home. He didn't have room for them so he asked me if I wanted to buy them from him. After getting off the phone with him I was there in about 20 minutes with the cash to pick them up. You would probably cry if you knew how much he sold them to me for. All I know is that for the last 7 years these babies have kept me partially sane. And I am happy to announce that I'm about to aquire another set of them tomorrow. I'm driving 126 miles to pick them up. Similar Products Used: Onkyo m-504, other goodies. |
