Strength:

Bass that will crack the foundation of your house and make the makers of Miracle Ear very happy!

Weakness:

If you mainly listen to Rap or Heavy Metal, these are for you. If you want a speaker that has a crisp high range or has the ability to reproduce a wide range of different types of music, look somewhere else

I purchased these as a replacement for a pair of CV VS-120 speakers. I was greedy and wanted more "of everything". The E-715 are a good set of speakers for the money but the more I listen to them, the more I am disappointed. They do not have the overall sound quality or range of the VS 120''s. The high''s are not as crisp, the midrange seems lacking during any guitar solo. The bass is huge, that is a plus but, it seemed to me that the VS 120''s did a better job of overall sound re-production and quality. I lisien to anything from Mozart to Slayer. For heavy metal and annoying my neighbors the E 715 is the way to go but, if you have a pair of VS series speakers, hold on to them. I honestly feel that they are the better speaker and you will save money holding on to them. I wish I had.

Strength:

Where do I start?? These speakers are just awesome. The mids and highs are crystal clear, and the bass is, well, phenomenal is all I can think of for a lack of words. Great buy, woth every penny

Weakness:

???? Weaknesses and Cerwin Vega (what a oxymoron)!!!

There is no competition from other speaker even close to the price range of the E-715s. These speakers are a very high quality product with excelent performance. I don't know what the idiot (Raymond Woo) was on when he wrote his summary. His comments are totally off. The mids and highs are great. While I don't have to mention the powerful crisp bass, I was quite surprised with the clearity and power of the mids and highs. Myself being a Trance-o-holic, I don't have to mention the importance of good deep and crisp bass. While I was expecting that from the E-715s, I wasn't expecting the kind of performance I got. What can I say, I'm mesmorized!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

I heard that the E-315 was discontinued and was replaced by the E-715...does anyone have any specs or reviews about the 715? It hasnt yet been added to the CV web site. I will give it a 4 star rating because i LOVE CV stuff and the E-315 was a great speaker.

Kick ass bass

Weakness:

Heavy

I have decided to review my CV E712's here becasue they wont post them alone, but what the hell is the same exact speaker other than the woofer size, and its only 2hz difference..
anyways these speakers kick ass. The bass is soo crisp and loud, u feel it more in your chest than anything.
remeber this is the E712. Before i bought them a friend had a pair of both the 715 and the 712's and we put them side by side to listen to them, i didnt see any difference so i saved nearly $200 and went with the 12inch model.. And i dont regret it..

clarity of sound and bass when you need it

Weakness:

These are great speakers. I usually listen to classical, country and golden Rock. But I had to give ABBY ROAD a play. WOW!!!!!!!! After I wiped the blood from my ears I turned off the bass boost. These speakers are great for all kinds of music. Don't attempt to use these unless you have a first class rcvr or amp of at least 100 watts RMS or above( for clean sound). If you do get a pair. You will not be disappointed.

Strength:

Very loud,Deep Bass and overall quality of sound

Weakness:

Automatic tweeter protection seems overly sensitive as according to my power meters on my amp it is shutting them down at 200W Cont. at 8 ohms/400W Cont. at 4 ohms.

I just got these speakers and can say they are a very good sounding speakers. The highs are very crisp and clean and the mids are open an airy. The deep bass is phenomonal. I have however found the tweeter protection to be cutting on pretty fast when the power goes up. My amp is a Kenwood Basic M2 that is rated 220WPC minimum rms at 8 ohms with no more than .004% THD and a Signal to Noise Ratio of 120 DB. As soon as my power meters reach the mark of 200/400WPC-8/4 ohm the tweeters will cut out due to their protection. I know I am not distorting at that level nor is the amp clipping. Before I bought these speakers I contact CV and the tech guy told me they are rated 400 watts rms but did not say whether it was at 4 or 8 ohms. That does disappoint me as I bought them hoping they could at least play at my amps rated output of 220WPC rms at 8 ohms. I wil say they are very loud even at the levels I am driving them at. If you are looking for a nice pair of speakers that will take a lot of power and sound great doing it then these are for you. I do however feel they are either way too sensitive with their tweeter protection or overrated power wise. I guess I will continue to hunt for a more power set of speakers.

Main System:

Strength:

Power, serious sound pressure

Weakness:

Size, but who cares.

All in all this speakers are awesome. I first heard them at a friends house, liked them so well I had to have my own. Ended up having to purchase a new Denon AVR-3802 to run them, my old JVC couldn't fed them enough power.

And I'd like to know who the idiots are that would purchase a speaker with a 15" sub to listen to the sounds of the symphany or this other easy listening crap? That's like puchasing a drag car to take a sunday cruise through the park, then saying it just wasn't quite what you where looking for. Of course not, these speakers were not designed to listen to the sounds of the flute while you sip on tea and discuss fine eticate, they are made to Rock your A$$ OFF, and they do just that. I would recommend these speakers to anyone who appreciates quality sound and enjoys feeling their music as well as to hear it. Enough said, now go get your own pair, you won't regret it.

(This review is for the E-712's, not E-715)

I have owned these speakers for about 3 months and I am very impressed with them. If you like loud music & house shaking bass, these are the speakers for you. Some of the other reviews say that if you are a true audiophile then you shouldn't buy these speakers, but that's not true. Sure, you don't get the extremely detailed sound of some $1,000 hi-definition speakers, but let's see the bass from one of those speakers knock down a Christmas tree, which is what happened to me - It's all a matter of taste. Also, you will never know the true sound capability of these speakers unless you are using high powered amp. I started out using a new JVC 130 wpc home theater receiver & was not that impressed, however, when I hooked the vega's up to my old 300 watt Pioneer A-80 amp, that's when they really cranked. Plan on tossing out the 3 amp fuses that come with the vega's & replace them with 6 amp fuses, otherwise, you will be buying new fuses all the time (trust me). These speakers thump so hard that I get nervous they are going to blow, but they just keep taking the power and get louder & louder without ever missing a beat.

Weakness:

nope

These are some kick-ass speakers. I have these in a small dorm room and with two NAD amps putting out 300 RMS I can shake most if not all of the building. The subs are some of the most accurate I have ever seen and they hit you in the chest. They are large, however so you better have some room to put them. The tweeters have a self-resetting fuse if they get too hot and the main fuse should save you if your amp starts clipping. Before I got the second amp, I went through a few fuses ($2 for 4 at radio shack.) Highly reccommend these joints.

Strength:

Perfect for a variety of music, except maybe classical. (note: this review is for E712, which does not seem to have been reviewed before)

Weakness:

Imaging could be better with classical music, but the other good qualities of this speaker makes more than up for this!

I mainly bought these for movies and for listening to rock, but was much surprised when I heard how many good qualities they posses allround (something I had not really expected).
I did have to adjust the equalizer a bit on the Yamaha receiver I am using with these speakers, but sound adjustment is a personal preference. I put "Chesky's Ultimate Demonstration Disc" on, and out of the 14 sound qualities being tested there, I found the 13 of them to be portrayed satisfactorily (to my taste anyway)! These speakers are very dynamic, provide a credible soundstage (width and depth) with a wide variety of music, except maybe for choir music in large cathedrals (could also be my other equipment that limits that). They play very transparently and with a lot of detail, and with the right music it is hard to not be carried away and get up dancing. Piano music is delivered with the full body of the piano behind it, a very physical experience, like the piano is in your livingroom. Compared with the B&W speakers I had earlier, I would say that the Cerwin Vega possible are not as good at imaging (still good enough for most music), but more than make up for it with the very musical way they deliver music, and especially the weight they can deliver behind the bass makes it a very physical experience to listen to them! The dynamic quality of Cerwin Vega E712 gives them a lot of realism which many more expensive, but less potent, speakers do not have. Dynamic compression is an often overlooked factor in speaker design, but it is one of the most important factors for really feeling the music is in your room! Of course, you can speakers that have better imaging, transparency, etc, but in this price range I think it would be hard to find better speakers. If you have money (11-13K)for some Avantgarde speakers (which also are exceptional at dynamic reproduction - http://www.avantgarde-usa.com/) then they would surely be better allround speakers; if not, then try out these Cerwin Vega speakers. They are definitely worth checking out!
