Strength:

GREAT SOUND...Crisp highs and lots of Bass. I love to show them off. My downstairs neighbors HATE THEM!

Weakness:

A very big speaker if you dont have alot of room..Mids are a slight bit washed.

I have had these speakers for a few years and have been very impressed with them. For the guy who says they sound far worse than $1000-$5000 set of speakers...DUH! These were about $300 for the pair. I was using them as my mains and front's for Video, no subwoofer needed, I now use them as B speakers for music and I have Infinity RS2's up front with RS1's for rears and a CC-2 for the center, powered with the Pioneer VSX D608 reciever. I have added a subwoofer for my Dolby Digital sound which I really didnt need but what the hell. The CV's have great sound, clarity and imaging, the only reason I switched to the Infinitys was to match the voice to the rest of my set up, for watching DVD's.

Strength:

loud, that red ring around the woofer looks kinda cool.

Weakness:

too many to mention

I bought these speakers a few years ago while in college at Best Buy for $175/pair. I really don't know how this happened because they where on sale at the time for $199 a piece. But I wasn't going to argue with the clerk and tell him he was way off. So I hurried them to my car and didn't look back. I bought them because they sounded better than anything else at Best Buy and I didn't really know anything about audio equipment at the time. I was very happy with my speakers for a year or so until I heard some REAL speakers. I won't mention a bunch of names here (ok, Vandersteen, Thiel, NHT, PSB) but I'm talking about speakers in the $1000-$5000 range. (Sometimes I wonder if I would've been better off in my ignorance.) Well, I suddenly realized my CVs had many flaws. 1st off, there is no sound stage. The sound clearly and succinctly comes directly from the speakers. Period. No depth, no imaging, no illusion that the sound eminates anywhere beyond the speakers. 2nd, they're muddy, distorted pieces of crap. No amount of eq can correct that. I could go on, but what others have said here is true: If you want loud boomy speakers to play dance music on and you don't care what they sound like, go for the CVs. If you want good sound, you are going to have to shell out more cash, -you get what you pay for. And even what I thought was a great bargain at the time, due to a clerical error, turned out not to be too great of a deal after all.

i'm just wonderin why these new reviews on the re series are still poppin up? if your lookin for real rockin roll speakers head to the e series~!there still not audiophile speaks but the 10's and 12's have outstanding power for the lows(whata ya expect there vegas right)but for once on a low priced vega the bass response is tight and accurate.running off 100w apiece for the 10s and 12s sound great(i think that the vegas aer the most efficent loud speakers on the market for power management).if your lookin for a real great loud speaker thats just for lettin go and rippin then pick up one of the new e series vegas they'll make ya laugh just watchin how far the one is movin(its like watchin a 12" rockford(punch) car sub only tighter)
note that my review is for the e series not the re series

I don't care what anyone says, if you have "good hearing", you'll hate these so called speakers. They produce no high frequencies, just mid and low treble, with much harshness at that. The midrange is deficient in the higher mids and muddy and overbearing in the mid to lower midrange frequencies. That's the good qualities of these speakers. The bass is better not produced by these unaccurate monsters. The bass is very boomy and muddy in the high to mid bass. The low bass is missing under 40 or so Hertz. No Equalizer can make up for the poor sound these speakers pump out. The time alignment doesn't even exist, which leads to a hollow mid and tweeter response range. The separate drivers just don't play as one speaker, but as 3 different, and separate speakers sharing the same box. The soundstage and image is confused, as no sound is focused. These speakers are loud, and boomy for dance music, which is the only music that can sound somewhat good on them. When I was in college, many had CVs mostly because they were a durable, loud boomy speakers that shook the floor. I never liked CV, but I can see why non-enthusiast think their great. They just need to do more shopping as many better speakers share the same price catagory with these.

Strength:

Very clean and undistorted bass at high volumes.screaming highs that are clear and crisp.

Weakness:

the only bad thing about my RE-30's is that the fuse holder in the back rattles when im blasting these thumpers.

Very well built speakers. The bass and treble are amazing
when hooked up to a good EQ and without, but i really reccomend that a quality equalizer be used with these and any speaker.c-v has not let me down yet they are best at bass and treble.espeacially in car audio i have c-v strokers
and vega series compnents in my car and they are tha shiznit
i love-em.CERWIN-VEGA!turn it up.

Hello fellow speaker enthusiasts -
No matter what some "stuck up" audiofiles (oops, I meant audiophiles) from Chicagoland say, I simply love the Cerwin Vega RE-30s. I own a pair of those, a pair of RE-25s (for rear surround) and a Cerwin Vega HT-CTR center channel speaker and HT-S15 powered 15" subwoofer running on a medium-quality Pioneer DD/DTS receiver.

Since I am not someone who cries and has intense emotional reactions to the sonic intracacies of music, I don't listen for "muddy" (whatever the hell that is depends on the person evaluating the bass) bass and inaccurate midrange. All of the CV speakers I have run a decent home theater system with Dolby Digital and DTS soundtracks from DVD.

I have yet to be umimpressed with the RE-30s or RE-25s. The sound is great, and I don't run audio test patterns through my system each day looking for problems with my setup like some obsessed tweak geeks do. For the price (these are not Definitive, ARs, Paradigms, or Velodyne stuff REMEMBER), these loudspeakers do the job extremely well. I would sell my Cerwin Vega setup for more "perceived value" that some overpriced speakers will have you believe they give you. Paper, foam, butyl rubber, and polypropylene cost pretty much the same, ya think? Why would I pay $3000 for a set of speakers when $400 worth of CV units sound just fine to me? I have vistited $10,000 A/V rooms at high-end audio stores for home theater evaluations and I have yet to hear a speaker that is worth $10,000 (even Magnaplanars, Klipsch, etc.) to my pocketbook.

The great thing about stores that offer a return policy is that you can purchase speakers, set them up in your listening area (music, home theater, etc.), tweak placement and source issues and evaluate them as much as needed (while trusting your ears - the best judge) before deciding to keep them. I did exactly that with all of my CV gear and never looked back and don't regret my purchases one bit.

Whatever speakers sound best to you in your preferred listening enviroment are the ones you should choose. Don't put to much stock in "audiophile" critics who love reproduced sound more than life itself. If YOU like it, then buy it.

Strength:

Handles power well.Good BASS and decent highhs !

Weakness:

the 4 ohm impedance requires (usually) a high end amp. Lots of cheap amps Sony, lower end JVC etc...will not drive them.

Get them! Be sure your receiver/amp has good power. I suspect lots of the negative reviewers are using crappy under powered amps. Also use good quality wire such as Monster Cables..

I bought these from best buy 3 years ago, through an employee for 129.00 a piece. Originally I thought they were harsh running on a pioneer DP system, they were underpowered. Upgraded to a Denon 3600 and they perform. I am looking to upgrade to new mains, dealer has allowed me to addition a few $400+/each speakers and have yet found one that warrents the additional money to upgrade.... Still looking, CAN NOT BE BEAT FOR THE MONEY, esp. for HT, ROCK, ect. wouldnt recommend for jazz but not too bad on classical, just get something a little more tonal for rears (polk) and run 5 channel stereo.

I am buying the Cerwin Vega RE30's at Best Buy pretty soon!My wife and I tested all of the speakers at Best Buy and it was the loudest for the money. The bass competed with the most costly home theater set ups with sub woofers! For 400.00 total, I will have a killer set of speakers!
My sister has owned two pair of 12's from Cerwin Vega for about 8 years now. They still kick! No vibrations or anything!

These speakers are great for breaking glass and pissing off your neighbors. For listening to music, they suck on all but loud stuff like metal and rap. If you want correct tonal quality and soundstaging, you will have to look elsewhere. This speaker is made, just to be loud. If you want the best of both worlds, check out Klipsch speakers.
They are a little more expensive, but they have extremely high sensitivity (highest of all) and can blow your roof off as well as, throw up a soundstage!
