Strength:

1) Value, Tremendous "club like" volume, superior bass response (with the right power), able to out perform ANY comparable KLH, Technichs, Pioneer or even some professional P.A. gear. 2) Sound quality is better than average for a speaker that is capable of making "audiophiles" complain so much. (It seems like everone wants to hate the winner)

Weakness:

1)One Cabinent Needed to be repaired after a brace became loose. 2)They dont sound like $1200 studio monitors (Because they are not!) 3)No weakness worth deciding against these beauties.

Ok, first of all to all of you people giving the VS 120s bad reviews: "Its too loud", Its too "boomy", "they don''t sound like my $1200 dollar BNWs". THESE COMPLAINTS SOUND LIKE THEY CAME FROM A NURSING HOME FOURM! These people obviously have never looked at the cerwin vega website and seen that the guys at vega DO NOT MAKE a studio quality speaker. But they do make award winning professional (SL-36 earthquake) and car auio products(STROKER!). These VS-120 Vegas are designed by the same "crank it up and hold on" minded engineers that the above mentioned products have. They have the ruggedness of a medium-short throw P.A. speaker and the dellicacy of some higher priced home speakers. There is not another 12" 3-Way speaker that delivers the volume, the bass, and overall response for the price of these vegas. I ran thse vegas on a 100 watt/channel kenwood amp for a few years. I recently upgraded to a 150 watt/channel professional QSC amplifier. I suggest if you are reading this review prior to purchasing a parin of 120''s that you get an amp with some "balls". They dont require alot of power, but anything under 1oo watts/channel, you will not reap the true performance of these speakers. I have thrown many parties and these speakers have seen hours at a time with slight (inaudible) clipping from the QSC amplifier. NOT EVEN A BLOWN FUSE! Again good, clean, strong power is a must to get these things rocking to their specs. If I do anything to these speakers, I will probably replace the QSC with a 200 watt/channel QSC or Crown power amp. If you have a question about these speakers please e-mail me at foreman4x4@aol.com

Strength:

MAD BASS!

Weakness:

If you like Classical, John Tesh, or Michael Bolton, you may not like these

I'm a college student and one of my friends has a pair of these powered by an Onkyo receiver in his dorm room. Loudest phuckin speakers (not including subs in cars) that i've heard. I cannot believe how much bass output these give. We had to turn it down, we have tried different settings including almost maxing out the receiver, these speakers just keep thumping. Amazing. I can't phuckin break e'm. I recommend Limpbizkit, heavy metal, hip hop, just anything loud. The best speakers for parties. If you're a self proclaimed audiophile that comes on this site and talks about imaging, and natural and brightness and all that other bullshit, you'd probably not like this, but then again, you probably don't listen to rock, or hip hop. If you like elevator music, thats fine, more power to ya. Listen to elevator music on your 2k speakers.

Strength:

Awesome Bass, Great Value, Great Quality

Weakness:

None I've found so far.

I bought these at a charity auction a couple of years ago for $115.00 for the pair. Up until this month they had been played through an older Sony Pro LOgic only reciever, I recently purchased a Harman/Kardon AVR500 and I think I am now in HEAVEN. I am using KEF C15 speakers as my rear and center channels. I am currently without a Subwoofer. I am by no means an Audiophile but I can tell what is and isn't being reprodced by my speakers and these speakers. They reproduce the Hi's, the Mid's with precision and oh what bass. I have recently been reading the reviews on these speakers about them having lousy hi end reproduction so I took a closer listen to mine. I tested them playing a series of Jazz, Rock and Classical Music. I played many different Videos (i.e The Matrix, Godzilla). The people who say they have no his and mids have got to be tone deaf. I got to tell you these are fantastic speakers and I won't be getting rid of them anytime soon.

I think these speakers are worthless!! The highs are distorted and ugly. The midrange very compact and the bass responce is slow. Not worth any money ore listening time!!!

Strength:

Takes a Lot of abuse - sounds decent - bass - price

Weakness:

Sounds decent

Great party Speaker!! - Decent sound. I started out with a cheap sony receiver($200) and a pair of pioneer's($100 each) with 15" woofer - blew both within 6 months. Bought a medium pioneer receiver(100 Wx2) and a put them with a pair of KLH w/ 15" woofers. Blew both again within a 6 months. Fixed pioneer and bought Cerwin Vega - ROCKED HARD!
Speakers still sound good and are very loud - kick out of lot of bass and take all the s**t i threw at it. Doesn't as good as my little Paradigm Atoms but they shake the walls. Audiophile need not even look at these. College students and rock listeners should.

Strength:

Great sound quality for the price, very sensitive, and high bass output.

Weakness:

None that a speaker of this price range shouldn't have.

These speakers are as good of a value as you're going to find. I see some bad reviews on here, but I've beaten my speakers senseless and thrown them around, and they're drop dead durable. I have yet to find a better buy on the market for speakers that will make a lot of noise, and still sound very good in most situations. I have an uncle with McIntosh setup, and of course, the CV's, aren't as good as those. But, they also cose less than 1/10th as much.

If you're lacking confidence and you're going to fill the void with expensive speakers, feel free to make a bad investment on a depreciating asset. However, if you'd like to have an all around solid speaker that can reproduce solid quality sound while leaving a few bucks in your pocket, pick up a set of these. You won't be disappointed.

In short, if you're going to get on here and complain that a $180 cabinet doesn't sound like it costs $3,000, go be retarded somewhere else.

Strength:

Bass, Power handling, Cabinet construction, Cerwin Vega support(5 year no questions asked warranty!)

These speakers are all I could ask for. The large size, and weight are well justified by the greatly improved bass response. You can never overlook the importance of cabinet construction. The VS-120s use a hearty 3/4 inch cabinet, and minimal insulation for faking out the bass. The cabinets hold together well, with any amount of bass pumping. And bass pumping is what these speakers do best. I have put the people in my hall in shame for blaring their crappy speakers on a regular basis. I am not some freaky basshead though, and these speakers do a good enough job of producing mids and highs. I never expected the VS-120s to be the best for listening to fingernails on chalkboards, but who cares about that? I have not noticed any deficiency in their ability to create loud and clean highs, although the mids do seem a slight muted. They only distort when I push my Kenwood KVS-7070 to about 90% power, and that is to be expected of ANY speaker, since it's the AMPILFIER that is producing the distortion, NOT the speakers. If I had a 200 watt or better amp, I know these speakers could handle it, and would be the loudest thing around. All of you idiots that blame the speakers for your distortion, get rid of that Audiovox receiver, and get something real to push your VS-120s to their real potential!

I AM RUNNING MY VS-120 SPEAKERS TO A PEAVY 250 WATT PER CHANNEL AMP. These speakers are the best handling for this much power.I am also considering another pair of vs-120 to take my amp all the way down to 2 ohms, which it can handle. I am happy with these speakers.

I purchased these speakers at 2001 Audio/Video in London, ON.I will be hooking them up to a Yamaha RX-V575. For the money you can not go wrong. If you like heavy bass and good balance, these speakers are for you.
Remember, they are not for your average audiophile. Let your ears be the judje.
Personnally I find them better than Bose or Infinity, but that is me. You will also need a good amp/receiver to power these, a cheaper mass consumer product will not give you the full effect of any Cerwin Vega products.
Like I said don't tke it from me or some other clown that bashes them because they are not using them correctly. BE YOUR OWN PERSON ANDLET YOUR WHAT EARS BE
THE DECIDEING FACTOR.
