Justine, I must admit, that is one of the most concise and to-the-point reveiws I have ever seen! I congatulate you on your tremendous vocabulary! (ie: "junk", OH, and "junk" too, in the RE-30 review). You must have a lot of time on your hands, I highly suggest you pick up a copy of Readers Digest, and take a look at the "Enrich your Word Power" section. The Cerwin-Vega VS-150's are not audiophile speakers, and they're not meant to be. They were designed to be rugged, solid sounding rock 'n roll speakers. And at that they excell. |

these speakers are pretty good, though rather boomy; the highs and mids arecrisp, but at higher db's they shriek. personally i prefer the AT-15's with |

I bought my VS-150's from Montgomery Ward primarily due to price ($300 per pair in a going out of business sale). My intent was to use them as main speakers in a home theatre setup. So far I'm not disappointed at all. I rarely use the bass because of the powered sub I'm using, and I think that helps the clarity of the mids and highs. There probably is a better solution than the VS-150, but for the money I don't think I can go wrong. When I do use the speakers for pure audio, I am struck by how quickly the 15" speakers start to lose it in high volume scenarios. To restate: Bass response is really disappointing. Outside of that, and the sheer size of these guys (90lbs and 36" tall), I like em. |

I have owned a pair of Cerwin Vega speaks for a long time. My first pair is a pair of AT-15's, alot like the VS-150 just older. I wanted another pair of AT-15 but they did'nt make them any more so I purchaced a pair of VS-150s because they were suppose to be alot like the AT-15s. I hooked them up with the AT-15s and the VS-150s did not even compare to the AT-15s. I took the VS-150s back to the store. Later I found a second pair of AT-15s at a pawn shop. Watch out for those cheap digital amps though,4 ohm speakers will cookem and salespeople dont care.I agree with TIM. |

I'm currently loking for some new speakers to upgrade my aging system. I primarily listen to opera, but I also really enjoy military marches (Sousa, or anything conducted by Frederick Fennell). Since most marches have a broad range of instrumentation and dramatic shifts in dynamics, I auditioned the Cerwin Vega's for their high efficiency and rumored strong bass performance. While they are capable of making huge amounts of sound, the bass was sloppy. The bass drum was so poorly defined that it simply sounded like a large truck driving by. As for the midrange and treble, instruments were easy to idenify, but not really musical. The piccolo was not piercing, the trumpets and trombones sounded muffled. In short, this speaker is really best for those more interested in high volume as opposed to precise rendition. I would have loved this speaker in my college dorm when I listened to rock 80% of the time, but I have no use for it now that my music interests require clarity and resolution. |

Cerwin Vega has always been a provider of deep bass. I agree I don't think you'll find a set of these in Pavarotti's house. Anybody who would buy these for an audiophile type of system is probably not researching or knows anything about stereos at all. Bravo CV, always what we expect from you sometimes a little more and never any less. |

These speakers are not bad. Shocked to find the sound quality for the price. As expected they boom to much in the really low end but these speakers go to the low end that others don't. One big thing is Don't sacrifice on quality for a receiver (duh) no garbage from sony, kenwood and pioneer (to a degree). I own a pair of the Carver AL III plus speakers which are (magnificent),also With these I have my inexpensive Optimus (2 pro Lx-5), Optimus (cs-1) and Optimus (2 pro Lx-10). Yeah the Radio Shack brand you can hold the chuckles. For the price I refuse to buy anything else. None of these (Optimus) speakers peform well alone. Thats why you buy a whole bunch of them. Staging is incredible, Mixing 3 brands of speakers I was shocked by the results. I finally got the deep bass I was looking for. Cerwin Vega always had their moto of "bass you could actually feel..2 or 3 blocks away" The Carver's alone give to good of a response, to chill your nerves and scare the crap out of you while watching t2 you need the vega's. And don't forget to buy a reputible set of interconnections for your system I reccomend JPS. |
